The people I play with are vicious for sure but I am not sure where the distinction between competitive and not breaks. My deck goal just breaks down to play Jin Turn 4 or 5 every game.
It is also a deck that can really make great work of Forbid and Mind over Matter and general stuff like that, all the tricks and tech you can find in Koz or Karn just with blue bull***** on top too.
The dirtiest piece of tech it has that those colorless decks do not is Vedalken Archmage a monster of advantage.
To anyone actually saying that they won't do it because it will kill the value of the original needs to look no further than
Also because these are not limited print runs there is always stock and the big-box stores will drive the prices down if you don't need to have one the week they are released. The thing that makes portal cards cost a lot of money is the fact that they are portal cards.
Commander: Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur
Main Theme: Ramp to Commander, draw new hand see how they deal.
Main Wincons: Artifact shenanigans, Mind Over Matter shenanigans
Seems like Mikaeus, the Unhallowed would be really good in your list. Also, Eladamri's Call to tutor up the right type of hate when you need it. I really dig the list, btw. Hatebears is one of my favorite Modern archetypes, nice to see a port of it into EDH.
I don't think Mike fits if only because I don't like adding anything that mana intensive that also is 3B, Eldamri's Call on the other hand is totally something I need.
Krosan Tusker was also nice cycling creature. Nets a basic land plus draws a card.
I think I would run Tusker over Dragon because I am mainly using it as another form of draw + something extra when Slide is out, I was actually looking at Undead Gladiator because it seems like a fun little engine. Also might test it with the other 3 cycle lands in the colors too.
There is a Comic-Con coming up I bet we get some stuff from that.
The thing is these are mono-colored decks in a boxed product sold at all kinds of stores. It is much easier to make a cost effective magic deck in EDH that is not mono-colored because you can take the different colors strengths and weaknesses into account so the colors will balance and the pre-cons so far have been proof of this.
With these decks there are only two real outcomes, they are really bad decks or there is some really great stuff put into them to buttress the inherent weakness of some of the single colors. I hope for the second because it makes them playable at least out of the box and also brings the price down on cards that severely need it, you only need to look at Hua Tuo, Honored Physician for the proof of this.
I was getting bummed because of how much of a different archetype Kurkesh plays into than the other Red generals but I WANT ALL THOSE CARDS

Play Smart is alway the only rule, and however you want to interpret that is correct.
