Onering posted a message on Is EDH the least interactive format?I think people tend to mistake narrow windows for interaction for lack of interaction. High level play can be very interactive, but there are narrow windows to do so, which if missed let someone run away with the game. If decks and players are evenly matched though, then the game becomes much more interactive with everyone trying to make optimal plays to prevent eachother from going off. Its a lot like Legacy or even some Vintage games in that way.Posted in: Commander (EDH) -

ISBPathfinder posted a message on Mothership Spoilers 09/07 Puzzleknot cycle and Aetherflux ReservoirReservoir kind of represents all sorts of bad design for commander. Its similar to Sorin Markov but instead it just completely removes players. It gives super big lifegain decks something dumb to output their life into but at the same time is it really healthy to keep pushing these kind of effects? I have always felt this sort of a card is very toxic and seeing new ones worries me. The difference for commander is that there is more than one enemy so giving up 50 life to kill a player is kind of a heavy toll but at the same time being "that guy" in the meta that draws all sorts of removal and targeting I have no doubt that if anyone plays this they will target me with it.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
My first reaction is a knee jerk. I really hope that this Reservoir sees no impact on commander but I fear any time it might. Random side note.... Children of Korlis rebel cannon -

d0su posted a message on The (Multiplayer) Mulligan Rule Discussion ThreadFor typical EDH games (random pickup games with nothing at stake except fun), I am completely against the Free Partial Paris, for two reasons:Posted in: Commander Rules Discussion Forum
1. Heavy emphasis will be placed on early game interaction, which (while not objectively "bad") does not sound like the kind of EDH the RC likes to advertise.
2. The existing gap between optimized decks and for-funsies decks will be widened, as the lightning-fast proactive deck will now be supercharged, but the for-funsies player will not have the means nor the prior knowledge to fully take advantage of the mulligan. In a game with mismatched power levels, the underpowered decks stand the best chance when the powered deck stalls out due to variance, not when the underpowered decks accidentally draw into their efficient answer they aren't packing in the first place.
However, for a dedicated competitive environment like the one Droptimal is trying to foster, I would be willing to entertain the idea. If the meta is known, it sounds to me like this system has a lot of merit. -

Moxnix posted a message on Scooping To Deny Triggers (i.e. Spite Scooping) Polls [Multiplayer Only]Posted in: Commander (EDH)Quote from Droptimal »A simple thing that needs to be grasped when people engage in this argument is that EDH is a cutthroat game. Outside of games built with specific mechanics to state otherwise, there is one simple rule that makes cutthroat games work: All player's efforts are an attempt to win the game. Cutthroat is unfortunately bound by social contract to be functional in this capacity, but without this golden rule the very concept of the game falls apart. King making, match fixing, influencing the outcome of later games via behavior, etc... are all breaches of the social contract that make all cutthroat games function. The idea of cutthroat is that you are out numbered and the use of politicking and betrayal are a necessary aspect to achieve victory and all moves are intended to take 1st in the end. Scooping holds no ethical or functional purpose in how the game plays and only has a place within the idea that you cannot hold a player captive who wishes to no longer play. There is no justification of scooping as a viable tactic. That is a maliciously false and immature opinion that needs to not be humored. Arguments of scooping need to be tailored to the practical issues of imprisoning a player who wishes to leave and how to address it without harming game state.
I couldn't disagree more. If I want to strip mine you turn 1 I need no justifciation for why I can make that play. Perhaps I think it's the best play perhaps I just feel like strip mining you. If you cast your commander and someone else is in a position to win I can still cast counterspell on your commander if I want to. Scooping is part of th game and it's no different than casting a spell. If you swing at me with sword of feast or famine for lethal and I choose to scoop before it hits you dont get triggers you were never entitled to triggers and as its part of the game and you know I'm dead anyway if you didn't account for this in your decision to swing it at me that's on you. Playing ten game by the rules does not detract from the game in any way. There however is no rule that states " if your going to lose you must stay in he game so your opponents may use you as a resource because you lose anyway bro" the entire idea to me is garbage. People allowing tiggers anyway to me is the same as playing for second in casual when someone combos off, those are the kind of people I would never play with again to me it's cheating and I don't ply with cheaters it's part of why I love Mtgo for the most part no one can cheat. There is no clean way to implement any such rule it would be horrible and there is no reason to. What your saying is in fact an opinion not a fact and one I adamantly oppose. The idea that this rule is somehow special beuxase it doesn't involve playing a card is silly to me a rule is a rule if someone wants to scoop to your bribery they can a card that reads 3UU kill target player is not such a bad card anyway. Maybe it's my large experience on Mtgo but I ALWAYS expect my opponent to Scoop at any time heck maybe they disconnect and it has never upset me. It does not ruin the game it's part of it I have had my buddy scoop to recurring insight turn 3 and it was even more satisfying when I won ( without cheating letting my spell fizzle). @ digital fire nothing is disrupted once you realize it's a rule can happen at any time for any reason and play like it will. Are thee times this will limit your lines of play ? Sure will but again welcome to multiplayer magic enjoy your stay. -

RivenEsq posted a message on [[Official]] General Discussion of the Official Multiplayer BanlistSo, Sheldon, if you'd humor me, do you find parallels between Leovold and Narset?Posted in: Commander Rules Discussion Forum
Personally, I think that they can easily be very mean, powerful, and "broken," but their fair uses mean that they are relatively safe since they have to deliberately become that way. Would you agree?
Second, is there any extra "consideration" a very powerful legendary creature receives because of its colors and the available alternatives? For the sake of diversity/variety, specifically for Wedge commanders where the options are incredibly limited with each having 6-7 options, would they need to be especially egregious to get banned? - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

not sure about this one.
I have seen a distinct movement away from wider sorcery speed removal to more instant speed and hard to deal with answers, but again this is all anecdotal.

It is always easy to pick the best seven cards in hand and a lot of the drawing I do generally is instant speed anyway.

What are these games you are playing where one person dies to an intricate combo but then the game takes two hours to finish beyond that?
