Apr 18, 2019Well being fair makes it more likely to have an impact on lower power tables generally is what I take from that sentiment. As it stands now it is majority a high impact high power combo card which is last we heard not in the purview of the RC.Posted in: Commander Rules Discussion Forum

RIP Kytheon Iora.
I do not want to be ignorant, but what other art is RKF iconic for? I have never seen any of his drawings.
Most iconic for his signature on a lot of cards. The art is also incredible throughout
Apr 18, 2019Posted in: Commander Rules Discussion ForumQuote from papa_funk »I would stop thinking in terms of "these cards would be broken" and start thinking in terms of "these cards would make for fun and interesting decks to face." Right now, there isn't enough reason to make the change to worry about why we shouldn't make the change. The positives are almost entirely centered around "these are cool characters from lore" rather than "these are cool cards to build around". That's a plus, but it's not enough to justify a major gameplay change, even before you get to the downsides.
On the bright side, WAR suggests that maybe they'll be looser about planeswalker designs in the future. Maybe there'll be fun, quirky ones to build around. But right now, when I hear "I want to build a Kiora deck!" it's solely driven by Kiora's backstory, not because the Kiora cards are interesting.
I feel like this is a mischaracterization of a lot of the thread that gets drowned out in this spoiler season specifically with "oh this and this planeswalker is broken" talk
People are only gonna come in and list off the P/Ws they think would be cool and create interesting deck archetypes once, arguments in the thread about what is or is not too strong can and probably will last forever, I have read a lot of cool posts in this thread about new archetypes that get spawned by both the existing walkers prior to WAR and some of then new ones.
And also as arrogantAxolotl said, peoples desires for picking a Commander are generally first I like this card and those reasons can be vast and varied even within the same card, then figuring out the deck comes second and if the deck is interesting or fun to play is third.
It feels very all of a sudden that so quickly every addition to the format has to be "worthwhile".
Apr 16, 2019If anything I see Ashiok as a nice check against decks that are often maligned in talk about the format.Posted in: Commander Rules Discussion Forum
Hosing ramp of a kind not normally disrupted, also disrupting decks accustomed to tutoring or cheating things with their graveyard. The degree to which Ashiok hoses things scales rather nicely with the power of the deck playing against their strategy.
Then you also have to consider the general opinion about any form of disruption / prison strategies at all.
What interesting decks that hatebear design in Dimir could produce.

Apr 14, 2019I think it is incredibly generous to view the instances in which Brawl is brought in this thread as a place in which you can play the Planeswalkers you want and nothing else.Posted in: Commander Rules Discussion Forum
Apr 14, 2019Oh I am sorry it is only brought up in a thread about the planewalkers being able to be generals and only mentioned through that lens and alongside that is talked about how Brawl did not set the the world on fire and feels stagnant.Posted in: Commander Rules Discussion Forum
The intent seems to be to link those things in a way that is not entirely straight forward. More things both more complex and immaterial to this discussion that comes up to try and hammer some nails in.
Apr 14, 2019Posted in: Commander Rules Discussion ForumQuote from Onering »Quote from Carthage »With the addition of all these new static effect planeswalkers I continue to be sad that they are not legal commanders.
The most iconic story figures in the game and you cannot build a deck around them legally in the most popular casual format.
I mean, there is another format where you can do that, and I was told repeatedly when it launched that it was going to be better than commander in part because you could run planeswalkers, and because it lacked the busted fast mana and tutors, but it seems that format isn't very popular for some reason.
Judging from this poll (and every time I see this discussed elsewhere) allowing planes walkers as commanders is pretty unpopular, so it doesn't follow that they should be allowed as commanders in the most popular casual format. I'd also question them being the most iconic characters. Certainly some of them are, but there are also plenty of legendary creatures that are just as iconic, and plenty of planeswalkers that elicit a "who?" from most players.
It seems a strange thing to lay the failings of Brawl (that are many and vast as far as people I have talked to about it) solely at the feet of the thing you happen to be arguing should not happen in Commander.
Apr 13, 2019Enduring Ideal is a great card (points at signature) played with it a ton, playing Multiple of them in the same deck without some or multiple ways of giving them flash would be tricky and they also play very different and I am unsure if the Green / Red ones do that much for you in a Commander game.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
Thousand-Year Storm is another way to just make a bunch of them happen out of the gate instead of using stuff like Paradox Haze after they have resolved although that is still good.

Very different effects to get to that point you are paying 6 more for 3 more cards but one less land untapped and the Praetor's Counsel effect

Can be used for 0s can be easily used for cantrips and if you have the mana can do some silly things.

Given how this can get value off stuff like 1-mana cantrips and bolts, I wonder if there will be one-offs making it to competitive decks in eternal formats.
Yeah I sure read that wrong, 12 for 6 spells is better than decent if you can get to the mana.
