When solving a rubics cube, it's best to remember that the center piece of each side represents the "true" answer to that side, and only the edges rotate.

That's why the "challenge" rubics cubes have the center piece missing on each side Smile

Hmm... on the colourless card theory, there's some other mechanics that mesh with it, that have been ideas MaRo has been trying to get in for awhile.

A sixth color, the problem is this normally doesn't mesh well with other sets, but a colour that needs purely colorless mana would be quite useful (there were hints of this back during Coldsnap as well)

The opportunity to introduce a sixth "basic land". He's been trying to do this for ages. How many colorless lands would you be willing to add to your deck?

It has some flexibility. You can use a new "colorless" mana symbol, but the spells could also use normal "any" mana as well, letting them fit into decks easily.

A new card frame would be useful, since artifacts by themselves are an entire archtype that people normally tie with the colourless card frame, so people would keep targetting them with artifact spells. A different card frame would help cut back on confusion. (Personally, I'm hoping for something kinda similar in colour scheme to the old artifact frames.)

Magic Online 3.0 tracks colorless mana under its own mana symbol, which is a bit interesting. Now, of course it has to do this, but it's interesting it has its own mana symbol. This could naturally be wild speculation, but how it's tracked in 3.0 would mesh well with Shadowmoor.

Also, colorless would fit nicely with the most obvious letter being taken. Remember R&D speak for gold cards follow the pattern "CDE" which means "C" is taken in that regard. Q wouldn't be.

Actually as I recall, Phasing DOES trigger "Leaves Play" effects, but doens't trigger "comes into play" ones. How non-intuitive is that?

It actually used to do both, they just figured that you could abuse "comes into play" a lot more, since you could phase out nasty cards, leaves play is less nasty by design.

Well... either that or I'm remembering it wrong and my cousins and I had some really nasty games <.<

    How about:

At the beginning of your upkeep, if this creature is in play, remove it from the game while retaining all permanent changes, return it to play at the end of your next upkeep, treat this card as though it never left play.

One thing that you shouldn't forget is that when a phased out card returns you skip over summoning sickness and keep counters etc Smile

I got one wrath, and I'm perfectly happy (I wasn't even supposed to get one)

Although honestly this is screwed up enough it sounds like things going haywire in packing orders. Same thing happened to me ages ago with the guru promos, I got the last three lands instead of the first two (island/plains I think)

Goddess... I'd trade my foil birds for one in a heartbeat Smile

That is seriously sexy and cozy as hell... believe it or not... I dont even have one *** :/ And my cousin lost all of his before I inherited his collection, damnit.

The rules have changed since SOK, spells with no costs can be played, what to remember is non-existant mana costs can't be PAID.

Remember this is a reversal of previous rules, evermind was only intended to be spliced, if the old rules were still active suspend wouldn't be "legal" per-se.

  • posted a message on "massive cleanup" of creature types, more Merfolk in TS block
The last one was during the great Onslaught butchering, creature types need a much needed update. And remember now they arn't so worried about printing cards with oddball creature types like "slug" "bear" "fox" "frog" etc... Frogmite is going to get erratad, just as a hunch ^-~

As for Merfolk coming back, I thought them leaving magic was the biggest tragedy in ages, and it kept me from playing, to me they were iconic as goblins. And I loved being the blue mage with an under the sea deck. Sure it's silly when you think of fighting against something like goblins, but I think the fun of my deck overrides the sillyness of that. And... merfolk are cool Smile

Not to mention... I see wizards as a creature type belonging to all colours, and I'm annoyed it got hijacked to be a "blue thing"

  • posted a message on [TS] MaRo speaks MORE on the TS playtest cards...and our 422/301 threads
Honestly the ebay auction with TS cards came before the Akroma leak didn't it? Honestly I'm happy about it, and I kind of love the "rarer" versions, I'm imagining legacy players "pimping" their decks with foil thallids and funeral charms now... and I know the vintage circles love rare exclusive versions of cards, especially if they're shiny.

As far as the article goes, I enjoy it immensely, Maro does seem like a bit of a twink, but a fun weird crazy guy. And honestly, I think he fits his current position alot better than his old one.

For curiosities sake, I'm curious do the original scans of those playtest cards exist? I forgot to save them when they came out, and I'd love to see the full sheet for random nostalgia reasons. And I'm guessing since time spiral is out, that it would be okay now? For better or worse, it's a major piece of magic history now.

Although honestly... that sheet might make an interesting Magic Arcana, but I doubt it would happen.

Pull from eternity is nice, it hoses scepter, and on top of that lets you reuse cards that remove themselves from the game instead of going to the graveyard (reusable flashback anyone?)

The "Flash" keyword isn't so much a new keyword for a basic ability. Think of how much the word "vigilance" showed up in kamigawa. It was rather major and they put it everywhere. Now it's just a normal ability showing up all over.

I've opened up around 13 packs, and one foil (Facless Butcher, go figure :/)

I was hoping for the wacky silly flavor of the original Eureaka, honestly... that was the most fun part. You see that and even people that dont play magic perk up. This one says "I LOOK CRAPPY BUT DO COOL STUFF" I like it, but my inner child wants to gag. And play this, and you'll have the people watching shrug who dont play magic.

I do wish it had said "treat this damage as colourless" though. One of the greatest perks of Scroll was saying "CoP what?"

    CoP: Artifacts, naturally. J/k, I couldn't resist.

I'm pretty sure that wizards wanted to weaken it quite a bit this time around, the original was insanely flexible, to say the least. It makes a fun game of "go fish" "Got any merfolk of the perl trident?" "Enjoy your damage <3"

    Quote from Drakenred
    oh?

then how do you explain EVERY OTHER PRICE INCREASE in the cost of Magic cards since 1994?

and remember, this price increase includes both Coldsnap and Ravinica.(and with MTGO it also includes Kamigawa and 9th edition, just the "core set"(the thing with the CD-Rom in paper) and 9th precons are not affected by the price increase.

Well the first major one was because we were going up from 10 card packs... the next one was when they added foils. The only one where nothing was new was for "inflation" meanies. That was the last one.
