Mostly in the way you post. You present things in a manner that make it very possible for you to be scum. You have to believe you're town, no matter what. Grin

So I simply have to present myself in a way that precludes me from being anything but town, and scoff at the idea that I'm not?

Says the guy on the losing team that got vigged night 1...

And, like WG said, how come everyone thinks I'm scummy?

I have a guess what my role next time I play mafia is:

    A Vanilla Towny.

    Named Jody.

Doesn't the benbuzz matchup boil down to 'Kargan gets big enough to one-shot you with a counter on tap for the Charm'? Since Elixir can't gain life if he wants to redraw the Charm? It's basically a race between 'get to lethal' and 'get to 100 counters'...

    Well, yeah. That too.

Wait, if RSZ causes a draw when XScorpion does it with the Mr. Freeze deck, shouldn't it do the same with mine?

Yep, through creative use of Mana Crypt, which I confused with Mana Vault at first.

Oh man, I totally forgot that wistful thinking makes you draw cards. Woops

It was an awesome card to remember. (I used to run it in a deck with Underworld Dreams and Megrim "Take 10 and net -2 cards. Ha.") It works great against most recursion cards like RSZ, but also hits all the cards you might have.

I think I beat ras al ghul on the play. He has to remove red sun's zenith or I just kill him before he can do anything, and so I can vex wistful thinking, then on turn 6 I play mana crypt and vorinclex, and I kill him with vorinclex before he can cast decree to blow him up.

He takes Vex, and Wistful Thinking kills everything except Crypt, which isn't very helpful. It even hits RSZ because it makes you draw it before discarding (part of my super-secret tech!).

Wheel of Sun and Moon / Elixir of Immortality / Rith's Charm / Helix Pinnacle /// Goblin Festival
    (C) Mr. Freeze: Antonia
    Kargan Dragonlord / Counterspell

This one is impressively difficult to figure out. My stuff doesn't untap every other turn, and he gets to tap something during his upkeep.

    If I'm on the draw:
    1a. He leads with mountain
1b. I play forest, Helix pinnacle
2a. He plays another mountain and Kargan.
2b. I play mountain, and cast elixir.
3a. He plays mountain, levels Kargan thrice. He taps elixir. (20/18)
3b. My forest untaps, and I play plains, Wheel of sun and moon.
4a. He plays mountain, levels Kargan 4 times, taps nothing (I'm tapped out) attacks for 4 (20/14).
4b. My mountain and elixir untap. I play forest and pass.
5a. He plays island, levels once, pumps 3 times, and gets in for 11. He taps mountain or forest. (20/3)
5b. Plains untaps. I have 2 forests, 1 mountain, and 1 plains in play. I play a land of the same type he tapped last turn so that I can cast Rith's charm next turn. Let's just say he tapped mountain. So at the end of the turn, I have 2 forests, 1 mountain, and 1 plains untapped, 1 mountain tapped. Wheel of sun and moon in play, and Helix pinnacle and charm in hand.
6a. During his upkeep, I cast charm targeting kargan... to be continued.

    A) It's helpful if you make a note of which of these results disagree with mine, so that I don't have to go back and look. Smile
    B)

    Freeze vs. You
    (Freeze on Play)
    F: Mountain
    B: Forest, Pinnacle

    B: Forest
F: Tap Mountain, Island, Level twice (to 8), pump once, swing 9 (to 5).
    B: Mountain
F: Mountain, Pump 4 Times, counter charm, swing 12 (to -2).

    (You on play)
    B: Forest, Pinnacle
    F: Mountain
    B: Mountain, Elixir
    F: Tap Elixir, Mountain, Dragonlord
B: Plains, Wheel of Sun and Moon
F: Tap Wheel, Mountain, Level 3 times (to 3), swing 2 (to 18).
    B: Forest
F: Tap Mountain, Island, Level 3 times (to 6), swing 4 (to 14).
    B: Mountain (Charm During Upkeep)
    F: Island, Level 3 times (to 9).
B: Play a 5th land, 3 of which remain tapped from casting charm.
    F: Tap a land, Mountain, Pump 4 Times, Swing 12 (to 2).
    B: Play a Land
F: Tap a Land, counter Charm, Swing for the kill.

Hey, I just want to mention, this was a really fun week, and choosing the winners of each week to be the villains was a really nice twist. I thought you might use the winning decks from each week, but this was a lot better. Kudos. You do a great job moderating, Heart of Draco.

    Thanks!

We are playing with 2 electronic bits of data, that represents text names, that represent pieces of paper. That's all we got. We have less than the 2 bits of paper. We (moderators and players) and have to add something interesting to make this silly game worth playing.

Now that we're done with this month, I'm going to run either normal, backbuild, or Player Ideas after from 11/11/11 to the end of the year. That means I need your ideas! Post and discuss.

However, I'm thinking of running another theme month to kick off the new year. I'd love suggestions, but I'm leaning towards an Innistrad/Horror theme, having weeks due 1/6, 1/13, 1/20, and 1/27, so that the prerelease occurs the day after the last deck is due. I'd probably have a Zombie, Vampire, Werewolf and Spirit theme, perhaps with a Human theme Finale right before the Launch. Thoughts? Again, post and discuss ideas.

@Draco9: You should post your other land idea so that we can figure out the particulars, because I think next week will be a psuedo-normal week with the alternate land rule.

    Turn 2: Island
Turn 2: Tap island, play mountain, dragonlord
    Turn 3: Island
Turn 3: Tap island, land, level dragonlord 2-3 times (depending on playing an island or mountain)
Turn 4: Mountain, Zenith dragonlord for 2?

    Why yes. You are correct.

Congrats, you 1 the pun contest. You totally PUNned all you opPUNents, because your pun was so dang PUNny. You PUNished their PUNy attempts at wordplay with you PUNstoppable PUNdertaking of PUNning over the competition. It was PUNderful to watch.

You get a bonus PUNt towards Punner of the Month.

I'm sure this will start further madness, but it was worth it.

He taps your turn 1 land so you can't Deprive his Dragonlord. Then he races your entire deck, because he can level up and kill you before either RSZ can kill it or Mayor, Shortfang, and RSZ together can kill him.

what about activated abilities that cost 1 mana to activate?

That depends. Karn, Silver Golem's activated ability would count. Orochi Leafcaller's would not.

    so reminder text doesn't count

    That is correct. Good catch.

    Quote from Personman
@TANE: Those are in the rules text of a card.

While reminder text is in the Rules Box, it is not Rules Text. Reminder Text is essentially meaningless as far as Rules Text is concerned. It's simply there to help the player, and has no true bearing on the card (ie: Having a creature with flying and having the same creature with Flying+reminder text doesn't change the card).

This all begs 2 questions though.

    1) Can anybody name a single card with reminder text that has a 1 in it?

    2) You do realize how low the stakes are for this bonus, right? It's more of an additional bit of fun for the week than a real rule.

I'm sure the bonus winner will have something absurd.

Do collector numbers count for the number of 1s?

I'm gonna say No. In fact, allow me to clarify.

1s (or Ones) are counted in...

    Name
    Mana Cost
    Card Type
    Rules Text
    Power/Toughness

In other words, every aspect of the card that has an effect on game state and can have numbers.

    This excludes:

Art, Artist, Flavor, Collector Number, and anything else that doesn't effect gameplay (Un-sets don't count!)
