I've been play testing this list on the internets and it runs pretty smoothly. TKS is ridiculously good and you can cast him as early as turn 2 fairly often. Still not sold on Smasher, but I could see him being really good or "meh" in the end. I don't think he's bad and he's difficult to get rid of but in the end he's just a dumb beater, although haste is very nice. There is still room for tuning obviously but I think it's solid.
I don't think Eldrazi Mimic is that great of a card in this deck. It just doesn't do anything the turn you cast it, and really only attacks. It can block small creatures but takes up space where more proactive cards could be. I think Thought Knot Seer is going to be great and really help against combo decks in the format. I agree with RoboFroogs on Reality Smasher.
Just went 5-0 TWICE in some leagues with a black whîte version. This version has been great against affinity, I haven't dropped a match against them. It's also pretty great vs grindy decks with the Lingering Souls.
So far the lands have worked, I draw an untapped land a lot of the time. I agree, I probably should should cut the check land just for basics. Also I count 11 come into play untapped colored lands.
Do you guys also like rest in peace?
I attached I list I have been testing here. Black white has some pretty good options. Rest in Peace has been the real MVP here, it keeps Goyf small forever, it sometimes stops your opponent from casting delve cards, it stops lingering souls, snapcaster, and stops Arcbound Ravager in affinity, and a lot of combo decks cant deal with it well. Oblivion Ring also becomes a complete removal spell because you can remove the exiled card from under it, Tidehollow Sculler is much the same although it is weak to removal but they have to kill a 2/2 which isn't terrible for you since your other threats are bigger. However, the one problem with this color combo is card selection and card draw, Phyrexian Arena helps but it isn't as good as ancient stirrings in most cases, but the removal seems to make up for that a lot of the time.
Merfolk cant vapor snag all our threats though we have so many of them, and we can remove affinity's infect land with ghost quarter or a path so it seems like if we get to 4 mana worship is pretty good.
I just started playing this deck since Craig Wescoe got top 8 in Pittsburgh. I was thinking about ad I think I found a good answer to Merfolk and various other damage based strategy. Worship. Merfolk and affinty dont have that much removal, so if we get to cast that we can just win.
I was thinking, maybe torpor orb is a good sideboard option for this deck. It shuts off Kitchen Finks, Siege Rhino, Iona, and Splinter Twin, it doesn't deal damage and it it dies to abrupt decay. However, in regards to t not dealing damage, it can prevent a lot of lifegain.
Lately I have been playing a lot of decks running the Gifts Ungiven + Unburial Rites + Iona, Shield of Emeria combo. This combo completely shuts off our deck, path to exile seems to be a very good answer to this but are there any other answers to Iona?
Thanks for the reply, I was also thinking about lignify as a sideboard option maybe against affinity and tron, for their big creatures, Atog in affinity, and Ulamog's crusher in tron, and possibly against crypt rats in mono black when they tap out.
I think elves could be a player as it is pretty resilient to most decks and has A LOT of creatures against MBC and has spidersilk armor against cards like nausea and the red version of that card.
This guy seems like you might be able to make a modern or legacy deck out of him with Aether Vial and lots of other rats in there too.
think about.
T1 Aether Vial
T2 Any CC2 Rat
T3 Stick Rat pack into play And start making giant rats!!!
