So when the new set launches we'll be able to have multiple Chandras in play at the same time. I'm thinking of running atleast 1 Chandra, Flamecaller and maybe a Chandra, pyromaster. I don't know what to cut for them yet but turn 3 Chandra, Torch of defianceinto turn 4 Flamecaller seems fun.
I've been having trouble with Eldrazi and Taxes just because I can't handle their threats very efficiently. Any thoughts on this mu?
Don't let them take away your removal with discard effects. Fire off sweepers aggressively and hold up mana for your instant speed stuff, so you can kill a Thought-Knot/Sculler in response to the enters-the-battlefield trigger. Consider removal options that can kill Thought-Knot and Spellskite (Roast/Dismember/Flame slash/Mizzium Mortars).
Also Blood Moon is close to lights out if they don't have a relic. The deck only plays 2-3 basics and no fetches (just Path and Ghost Quarter).
You definitely do not want to kill a Sculler in response to the trigger. That lets them permanently exile one of your cards.
Against Scapeshift you need some combination of Molten Rain, Sowing Salt/Crumble to Dust, and Boil along with your Blood Moons. Use Molten Rain to try and slow them down/bait a counter and try to Sowing Salt/Crumble their Steam Vents/Stomping Ground. They only run 10 mountains so if you can take out 5 of them then they can't combo you without Prismatic Omen. Boil is currently my favorite card against them. Scapeshift has moved back to using Prismatic Omens in their deck so a resolved Boil is a one sided Armageddon against them. It can also "interrupt" their combo if you cast it in response to the Valakut triggers. You'll still take damage from the Steam Vents triggering Valakut but the other mountains' triggers won't resolve as long as there aren't atleast six mountains in play after Boil resolves.
Also, like against most blue decks, Ricochet Trap is good here. It's either a counterspell or it saves your Blood Moons from getting bounced by Cryptic Command. It's also a lot of fun to steal an Ancestral Vision with it.
Not bad. Relics keep Goyf in Check and Pia/Kiran are good against their 1 for 1 removal and Liliana. It can be rough if they string together a lot of hand hate early but if they miss one turn and we land a Blood Moon then the game is pretty much over.
I finally took the plunge and switched my Thunderbreak Regents for Pia/Kiran Nalaar and I've actually been posting a winning record in leagues over the last week or so. Out of the 14 leagues with this list, 9 of them have been x-2 or better. I was very apprehensive about playing Pia/Kiran with our main deck sweepers but after testing them I've realized that they're actually really good right now.
I finally broke down and bought the cards for Skred on MODO. Been playing for the past couple days and so far the only decks I cannot beat are B/X Eldrazi and Tron. The Eldrazi deck is just too damn fast and I don't know what's changed but Tron didn't used to be this bad for me. I'm playing 3 Molten Rain main with Goblin Dark-Dwellers to rebuy them and 3 Crumble To Dust in the board and I'm getting destroyed even when I draw my hate. Every other matchup has been even or good for me so far.
Flamewake Phoenix has been awesome with the dragons package. I don't like the artifact heavy builds because I want to keep my sweepers as one sided as possible.
How do skred list beat Bogles? I think our only interaction is an early volcanic fallout or having a Spellskite.
Blood Moon is really strong against Bogles. Spellskite is also really strong unless they draw a Path to Exile. Sweepers are good as long as you can get them down before they stick an Umbra. I also run a 1of Ratchet Bomb in my board for matchups like this.
Goblin Dark-Dwellers 3RR
Creature - Goblin- Rare
Menace
When Goblin Dark-Dwellers enters the battlefield, you may cast target instant or sorcery with converted mana cost 3 or less from your graveyard without paying its mana cost. If that card would be put into your graveyard this turn, exile it instead.
4/4
I'm going to start testing this as a 1 of in Skred. Being able to flashback anger and leave behind a 4/4, hard to block, body seems good even if it does cost 5. Can also use it to cheat a boom // bust into play and blow up all the lands in the more LD heavy lists.
Got top 8 at a SCG IQ last Saturday. Beat Infect x2 (2-0,2-1), Affinity X2 (2-0,2-0) and Jund (2-1) then drew into top 8. Lost in the Quarter finals against Infect (2-1). Game 1 he had a god draw and killed me through a Bolt on turn 2. Game 2 was long and grindy but a late game Koth ultimate sealed the deal for me. Game 3 I mulliganed to 4 before I saw a land and he killed me on turn 3. Overall the deck performed really well and I'm looking forward to playing it in another IQ next weekend. I'm one top 8 away from getting another Invitational invite.
I've also been testing a list that cuts the Reckoners and Anger of the Gods for Flamewake Phoenix and Pyroclasms and runs the full playset of Thunderbreak Regent and Stormbreath Dragon. The ability to recur the Phoenixes is really nice and they're more aggressive but I don't know if that's worth losing the defensive capabilities of Reckoner. A lot of times Reckoner just acts as a Fog for a couple turns because no one wants to attack into one and risk a two for one.
RSZ, Vortex, and Valakut are there for mana sinks. One of the biggest weaknesses I have found with this deck is getting mana flooded at inopportune times. I feel sheets is kind of slow and hurts my curve of Eidolon into Reckoner, but I could be convinced otherwise.
Thoughts?
I don't like Molten Vortex or Red Sun. You shouldn't be flooding out too often with only 23 lands. I would cut the Vortex for another Koth and if you really want a Fireball effect then I would go with Banefire over Red Sun.
Long time follower of the thread, I'm thinking of making a version of this deck to have fun with at FNM. I like the idea of getting to play a splash color instead of just red, and so far I'm leaning towards green. Having our own Tarmogoyf seems great when we run so many card types, and having access to actual good ramp (sorry Coldsteel Heart) in the form of Sakura-Tribe Elder / Courser of Kruphix sounds good. I'm also not a huge fan of Blood Moon, so I'd like to run other kinds of lands disruption like Molten Rain, and green has Mwonvuli Acid-Moss, which sounds good.
This list is still very much in flux, but I'd like to hear any feedback on things I should consider, or results other people have had splashing a color, especially green.
What exactly are you trying to ramp into with the Sakura-Tribe Elders and Acid-Moss? Just Bonfire? That doesn't seem worth it to me. I would run more threats over Steve and Acid-Moss. Play some dragons (Stormbreath or Thundermaw) or some walkers instead. Crystal Ball is another card I would cut from the deck. You have Courser to help smooth out your draws and I don't think Bonfire is enough of a reason to run the Ball. I'd cut them for Coldsteel Hearts to fix your mana more and to up your snow count.
I think you manabase could use some work too. 9 fetches feels like way too many and I don't think your snow permanent count is going to be high enough to fully take advantage of Skred.
Why are you playing Life from the Loam in the sideboard? Is it only to recur Ghost Quarters? You have plenty of land destruction already. Retreat to Kazandu also doesn't seem worth it . If you want life gain then play something like Kitchen Finks or Scavenging Ooze so that you can get a threat out of it. Huntmaster of the Fells could also work. You also need some number of Spellskites, probably 2.
Lastly, play Blood Moon. Even if you don't maindeck it, play atleast 3 in the sideboard.
You definitely do not want to kill a Sculler in response to the trigger. That lets them permanently exile one of your cards.

Yeah, He's good against Eldrazi and Burn, both of which I see a lot of on MTGO.
