sorry for necro, just reading through this thread and noticed there was no mention of the apac junior series.
    There was never an apac junior series in 2008 but there are apac junior series glorious anthems dated 2008 out there in very limited numbers (as best i've been able to determine 14 have left wotc); i think order of increasing rarity goes;
    Japanese; japan junior 1/3 n08
    US; scholarship series 1/3 j08
    Euro; super series 1/2 e08
Apac; Apac junior series 1/2 u08

is there a general consensus that signed cards or 'more pimp' or worth more?
    specifically in the case of particularly rare cards ie;
    beta duals lands?
    summer cards?
    missprints?
    guru?
sorry if i am asking this in the wrong spot

i saw somebody playing legacy with sundial of the infinite with final fortune on isochron sceptre
i think he was also playing pacts; interestingly the one match up that it won real easy was against hive mind / pact of the titan
i thought it was pretty cute but the deck needed a lot of work

bit random but have you considered sword of the meek
i;m not really sure how/where you would fit it in but seems kinda cool with rootwalla

maybe could jam in welder/vault/key/memory jar too though its prolly moving the shape of the deck too much

  • posted a message on Dr. Strangelove: UB Lab maniac control
i been tinkering out a few variants (ritual dday, gush dday, hermit druid) and the one i have found i liked the most was (take into account there is a lot of stax an oath in Australia) a ub control shell utilising intuition.
I still need to get a lot of testing in but this is where i got too (i figured this was different enough to hermit druid/ dday builds that it deserved its own thread)

Dr. Strangelove: (name remnant of starting with doomsday but figured demonic consultation and laboratory maniac were close enough to a 'doomsday' that we could keep the name)

    1 demonic tutor
    1 vampiric tutor
    1 mystical tutor
    1 imperial seal
    2 intuition
    1 Demonic consultation

    4 snapcaster mage
    4 lab maniac
    3 dark confidant
    1 Vendilion clique

    1 Ancestral recall
    1 Brainstorm
    1 sensei's divining top
    1 Ponder

    2 mana drain
    4 force of will
    2 spell snare (meta choice)
    2 mental misstep
    1 Steel sabotage (meta choice)

    1 Timewalk
    1 diabolic edict (meta choice)
    1 Yawgmoths will
    1 Unearth
    1 Noxious revival

4 polluted delta (or any blue fetches)
    1 Library of Alexandria
    3 underground sea
    3 island
    2 ancient tomb
    1 Sol ring
    black Lotus
    mox Jet
    mox Sapphire
    mox pearl
    mox ruby
    Lotus petal
    Mana crypt

    sideboard
    vendilion clique
    3 porcelainne legionnaire
    2 spellskite
    1 steel abotage
    1 Hurkyls recall
    1 sower of temptation
    1 diabolic edict
    1 Extirpate
    2 surgical extraction
    1 Tormods crypt
1 chain of vapour (thinking this prob should be main instead of edict...)

General game plan is to hold out tutoring to find consultation and use snapcaster to play consultation twice. Obviously there are a lot of other ways to tutor into the pieces but the snapcasters really help getting both of your combo pieces (consultation and laboratory maniac). Failing that (or fearing them having an answer in hand) just do the good olf fashion turn guys sideways and use dark confidant to hopefully generate sufficent counterspells.

There is a few obviously odd choices main deck- like the diabolic edict and steel sabotage. A lot of the oath decks in our meta are dragon breath making edict better than chain of vapour for this job (though im not convinced on this as a main deck choice).

The steel sabotage could (and possibly should) be hurkyls recall. But being able to counter a sphere before it comes down i have found to be really useful and a lot of the games where they have multiple sphere's im not likely to be winning anyway. I'm still really not sure about this but have found the steel sabotage pretty good in all sorts of places (there isn't as much hatebears as there should be in Australia) The impression i get of the rest of the worlds meta would suggest i prob wouldnt play either of these cards main and would prob swap for chain of vapour and another vendilion clique or mental misstep (depending on how rife i thought s2p/bolt would be)

I feel like i should be playing gifts ungiven (havent got round to testing yet) but can't imagine why it would be better than another intuition in any situation (i started with 3 intuition and cut one)

much apologies if this is too similar to the other lab maniac threads; I felt it was different enough and didn't want to tangent those threads.

    the hermit druid build

    a limited budget leveller build

being from Arabian Nights makes it really rare is part of the price.
ichorid is good enough in legacy without adding bazaar of bahgdad (so is reanimator where you happily play careful study- very similar effect and 'card disadvantage' in the same way you say bazaar is)

and no one mentioned me ol favorite goblin welder or his friend uba mask. Agreed both are sorta past their hey day with jtms sorta being better with uba mask (thus not so good to play anymore) and goblin welder not really being the powerhouse he used to be (imo)

used to see a bit of love with intuition, squee and ancestral konweldge once upon a time as i recall.

not that is viable in any sanctioned formats (60 card highlander (not edh) is really popular in Australia) but cards like life from the loam and land tax are kinda good with bazaar

being the hardest card to acquire in one of the cheapest vintage decks has really driven its price up combined with the fact that having been so good in other decks collectors have kept them out of love and respect Smile

on its own it may not be that powerful but in the right deck or in conjuction with other cards it is OP.

I love you Bazaar of Bahgdad (oh and BoB is really good with Bob (dark confidant))

(side note: aus 60 card highlander has 'point' restriction list to stop us all playing vintage storm or other such silly archetypes)

BFeingersh i completly hear you; i dont use summer cards when playing as i dont think it looks better and thus isn't worth the slight risk of damaging them.
so a possibly more aesthetically pleasing to some replacement scan:
ta v much to Daren Bader for the unglued gulls.

the bazaars once came from Gunslinga pre altering (and possibly some of the beta power too) so ta for hooking me up good deals there too Smile

@Markers; I'm really impressed with you having a complete beta signed set (amongst other things)- that is a really good effort acknowledging you can't just go buy that; how long ago did you finish the beta set? and what was the last card/last artist you got to sign something?
