Vast majority of the time I'm waiting to counter whatever they tutored for.

  • posted a message on Seeing Tezzeret as the new BAB promo..I am so sick of Wizard's BS
The buy-a-box promos being entirely new cards exclusive to buying a box was bad enough, it was a short-sighted and greedy move that's already ended up with one tournament staple they aren't willing to do anything about. Now my boi Tezz is getting the same treatment, that ish ain't right.

Tezzeret as a buy a box promo is incredibly incredibly scummy. Bad enough the way they've started pushing BAB promos as cards exclusive to buying a box, but that's just...well, why should I expect any better from Wizards these days.

I have this sinking feeling that this will be the set where Jaya finally bites the dust, and it is making me sad. Frown

Shame they can't bring back Garruk, but I guess he just represents all the toxic masculinity that is just oh so bad for the game :/

But hey, new Tibalt, maybe he won't suck now!

Am genuinely looking forward to finally getting a new Ashiok as well.

That's actually pretty funny, because Garruk embodies none of the traits of toxic masculinity.

Was my overt sarcasm not overt enough?

So when they said there would be a February Modern announcement, they meant "the last possible day, in the afternoon."

Hey, at least they will have kept their promise, I guess.

I mean, they need some way to get people to watch their *****ty stream no one actually cares about otherwise.

I don't really see straight-to-modern new card prints as such a big deal. I mean, they have been doing this for legacy for years now and no one batted an eye and it is not like they did it only with unplayable cards: Leovold, Emissary of Trest and to some small extent Teferi's Protection are two examples I can think of.

Supply of those cards was sufficient for legacy's playerbase. Leovold also saw two printings.

If this is the set made to bypass standard for modern playable new cards there could be a very real supply issue if something in a higher rarity ends up spiking a tournament as a four of. This is considerably dangerous for new printings where you don't have an old supply to boost. I'm not talking about counterspell here. The modern playerbase is just much bigger than legacy.

Overtime it could be eased with new printings, but it could further exacerbate the barriers to entry for the format in the short term.

Obviously without any data on the playerbase it's impossible to draw any concrete solutions. Look no further than nexus of fate where perceived scarcity can heavily drive a price. Mark said on blogatog that nexus has more copies out in the wild than any other mythic from that set - yet it still commands a higher price than some of the other just as playable (and more rare) mythic from the set.

I have serious reservations about the product if they differentiate it this way.

I mean, is that any different from a new modern staple being printed in a standard legal set that may also have to compete with standard players wanting it on top of that?

Serious competitive play is generally slanted towards standard, simply because that is what Wizards wants to push most because it is the most directly profitable to them.

That said, and while there is some overlap as to be expected, I respect serious legacy players far more than I do standard and, though to a lesser extent, modern. It's the difference between someone racing big wheels to someone racing motorcycles.

  • posted a message on As much as I like them trying to put some more focus back on the story, were "story spotlight" cards really necessary?
I mean, do they really think we're too dumb to know what's a key moment in the story without a giant planeswalker watermark and a note at the bottom of the card pointing it out to us?

I mean, this is the same community that complained about Triumph of Ferocity but had zero issues with Triumph of Cruelty and don't you dare say anything against the agenda push the industry (this, movies, comics, games, etc.) has been getting.

So did Lazav not get new art in this? Instead Etrata does and..she looks decidedly less attractive than I thought she was from initial art :/

^pretty sure it's a replacement for Flayer, as suggested.

Anyways, I've hung up the deck myself. It's just slow enough now that it feels nowhere near as competitive, and the push towards the more interact-heavy blue variation isn't one I'm really fond of either.

Flying solo with EDH now, I'm done with legacy :/
