It depends on what the aura can enchant. If it's something that could enchant a land, such as an "Enchant Permanent" like Confiscate, then it would stay on, if it can't enchant a land, such as an "Enchant Creature" like Mind Control, it would fall off.

Hey, just a quick second but how does teferi's veil permanently phase out creatures?

If a permanent phases out, any permanents attached to it, such as equipment or auras, phase out "indirectly". A card that phases out indirectly doesn't phase in on its own, it phases in when whatever it was attached to phases in.

A token that phases out ceases to exist as a state based effect.

    So
    1) Use Soul Sculptor to turn a creature into an enchantment (it stops being a creature)
    2) Use Liquimetal Coating to turn the enchantment into an artifact enchantment.
    3) Use Bludgeon Brawl to turn it into an artifact enchantment - equipment.
    4) Make a token of either Ogre Geargrabber or Vulshok Battlemaster to get the equipment attached to it.
    5) Phase out the token.

The equipment will phase out indirectly, but the token will then cease to exist, preventing the creature from ever coming back.

I expanded a bit on it, using the MtgDb api. Gives the full result set and links to their Gatherer entries.

Because the MtgDb api doesn't support 'or' logic, the search is querying all creatures in the given colors with less than or equal power+toughness and then filtering the result set, so queries with higher P/T totals will take a bit longer (as will queries hitting a broader spectrum of colors, such as WUBRG -> any color, as opposed to WUB -> exact colors)

Thanks for showing me MtgDb, I didn't know that existed. That will definitely be useful.

My group did it the same way; treat it as though it had the word Legendary on its type line.

It's not quite what you're looking for, but here's a little JSFiddle that might make it a bit quicker.

Enter the colors using the letters "wubrg", no spaces between them, order doesn't matter. It will give you a link for each power/toughness combination.

  • posted a message on How Commonly Used Should a Card Be to Be Acquired?
Sideboards are generally tuned to the metagame at the moment, sometimes even for a specific tournament. Since they change so often it's really hard to have a particular guide like that. Someone may face a ton of aggro decks at their store, so have a bunch of slots devoted to cheap removal, but another player on the same deck may rarely see aggro but face a bunch of control, and so their sideboard would have very little or no cheap removal.

Instead of the number of times they appear, look at what deck that card is supposed to fight, then base your choices on the most popular decks in your area that you're likely to face.

I'd say Charger + Umbra. Two is easier than three as you said, plus you can turn on the combo with Scion as well. The Yosei combo has some danger of decking yourself, considering you're forced to draw 5 each time. It's also stopped by a flying blocker, where the Charger is not.

Looking at your list, I'd also suggest switching the Birds of Paradise for ramp spells. They sometimes will die to Firespout, and always die to Verdict. Cards like Farseek and Nature's Lore let you find your shocklands to fix multiple colors at once.

    1) Buying individual cards will always be more cost-effective than buying sealed product. It's possible to open some very high value cards in boosters, but most of the time the total value will be less than the pack. Now plenty of people enjoy opening product, and a lot gets opened for draft, but if you're just looking for efficiency, always go with individual cards.

    2) Yes, each set has it's own mechanics, most of which will be new. Sometimes mechanics they did in the past will return, like Morph in Khans, which was originally in Onslaught, but a majority of abilities in each set will be new and won't be in the next sets. So you won't get any new Heroic or Bestow cards in the near future.

    3) You don't necessarily have to build a deck around a mechanic. Other themes, such as tribal, will let you draw from a larger pool of cards. If you wanted to make an Elf deck for example, then most of the sets in the game will have some potential cards. If you do want to build around a mechanic, some have appeared in more sets than others. A Bestow deck for example would only have cards from the Theros block, but a Morph deck could find cards from Khans block, Onslaught block, and Time Spiral block.

Some abilities also work better with cards outside their block. Heroic for example triggers when the creature is targeted by anything, so you can look for cards that target your creatures from other blocks as well, not just Theros. For Bestow, there are some really good creatures from past sets that are good to enchant, such as things with Hexproof or Indestructible.

    4) A block is made of sets. The Theros block is made of 3 sets: Theros, Born of the Gods, and Journey Into Nyx.

The main reason for restricting yourself to particular sets is to make your deck legal in a particular format. So if you're looking to build a Standard deck, you couldn't add any cards from before Theros block, if you wanted Modern, nothing before 8th Edition. If you're just playing casually, then you can play whatever cards you'd like.

5CMC is just such a pain to leave up. I'd rather run Arcane Denial; you get a cheap counterspell, and if you're land light you can just counter whatever someone plays to try to draw into land.

  • posted a message on Why have Small Sets in 2-Set Block System
Another reason for Large-Small is the problem that's existed with the block structure since it started; having enough interesting material. Generally blocks have been Large-Small-Small. With that setup, the large set introduced the world and the major mechanics, the second set took the mechanics deeper, and the third set...didn't really do anything.

That's the reason they got rid of the third set; there wasn't enough design space to fill large-small-small. By eliminating it they only need to fill large-small, which they had enough material for. If instead they switched to Large-Large, they get back into the problem of not having enough design space.

Few people manage to quit magic for good; they'll take breaks, sometimes for years, but most people will keep coming back to the game. So in that sense, odds are you'll become addicted.

As far as money goes, you can definitely have fun having only spent a little. The game is greatly enjoyable though, and you probably will spend more than you expect. As long as you can budget yourself though you'll be fine.

If they only force one creature to block I'd generally prefer a removal spell, since it's just more reliable. That said, I play Revenge of the Hunted in Pharika, because a 7/7 deathtouch snake can be a one-sided board wipe. Without the deathtouch though it wouldn't be worth it.
