Every time I see this is the form, I read it as Elder (a title) Gargaroth (a crazy dudes name) and I think, ooo who's this interesting new legend we have here:)
If it said, you win the game and bought you dinner it would be better... As it stands, a two for one in commander for 4-5 Mana, sometimes 2, is pretty cool.
Why can we have cute dogs in capes with "pet dog, all the love in your heart" flavor text, but we can't have squirrels? I'm hoping the nightmare was the start of something and not a one off. For me a pack of domesticated dogs attacking a dragon is more jaring then a hord of squirrels attacking said dragon. Might just be me though. Glad those who want it are getting dog tribal though.
Isn't Dragon Arch already "on a stick" or it is a stick, ...something. Anyway, to follow that logic what if it's "cost: chose up to 5 different creatures of different colors and put them in to the battlefield." Could be fun. Or maybe "look at the top X, put one of each color into the battlefield."
The thing is, there are no decks that accidentally meet the criteria. I challenge you to find a pre-existing deck that could just slot one in. It's a choice. For example my wife has an elementals deck, but she'll have to cut 9 cards in order to play the g/w companion. And it's weak enough that it's an interesting choice. As long as they keep the designs the way they are I'm fine. Sol ring fits your description better then any of the companions.
I'm actually not a fan of all these recent secret layers for a different reason. I thought the idea, as originally presented, was cool. Crazy out there art, limited time only. This one and the women one would fit right into most sets. Sure they're a little more refined, but it's not like the cats or the visions that would NEVER be printed. I feel like, with so many coming out, they're just falling back on normal magic art. Slow your roll wizards, plan out some truly original stuff, and I'm in.
Also, sorry to pile on, but yeah. That loot box comment wasn't thought through at all. If you want to go after the sales practice, I'd call it praying on peoples tendencies to impulse buy and manufacturing scarcity. But there's not a good, catch all, phrase to say those things... unless there is:)
I agree with both sides, but to back up Xcric if products like unsanctioned weren't trying to cast a wide net, why do they have full at lands. Especially ones that are distinctly not funny. Sure there's a certain type of player that loves uncards. But you can't sell a product that only a few 1000 people will buy. You need to turn a prophet. That's not nessicarily bad, it's just business. I do think it's kinda crazy how many products they are releasing these days though.
Pretty frickin sweet. This is my first time and I'm in love! I'm gonna do it every year if at all possible! I have no idea how to attach pics, but I'll work on that. Thanks Bob!
Edit: ok looked it up and still have no idea. Bob if you have pics feel free to reply with them. People should see your awesome work
As promised, I am mildly annoyed for not reprinting the Top on a deck that cares on the top (see what i did there) of your library. Lazy deckbuilding at its finest.
I agree that this deck was the obvious place for it, and with the increases price it seemed like they might do it, but to call it "lazy deck building" is just wrong. Putting all the obvious cards in is closer to the definition of lazy. Be more constructive with your critique. Calling it "lazy" is just mean and, well frankly, lazy.
