I wonder how Niv Mizzet would react if he saw his old self? He would probably be entertained out of his mind.

lol @ all the people saying MaRo said all new abilities in RTR. He also said the next block wasn't going to be a Ravnica block at one point.

Orly? I would love a link of that. Otherwise, troll?

That aside, I am looking forward to the new mechanics, RTR has the potential to be a blast, especially pre-release.

Can she work in this? With Angelic Destiny rotating out soon, is this a sufficient replacement? Issues I find are that we lack evasion in our creatures, so even with the angel it would be chumped. However, it would give us a powerful flyer, and would make Gather a bit more playable.

So, with the advent of Thragtusk, could something like that work? Gaining 5 life and a beast from blinking ol' Tusky here is pretty damn good, and I'm sure there are other cards (Bladesplicer anyone?) that would also work. The only real question is are there enough of them and can we develop a curve that works well. Instead of mulling this in my head like most decks, I figured I'd go to the forums and see what as a collective we can build. Thoughts?

This has probably been asked before, but how does this deck compare to the traditional W/u lists? I understand you guys are more explosive more often, but how much does your mid to late game suffer for this? I have had tremendous success with my list, that only splashes blue for the moorland haunt, and am finding it hard to reason adding red in, when there are already great cards in mono white that don't require me to tinker with my mana base.

I have 2 copies of this card atm but as I see standard right now, and not even considering the reprint of Mutilate, I don't really see how this card is any good. Anyone think the same?

It's only good in a build lacking creatures, such as a control deck. If you are also running a fair bit of creatures, it's too much a double edged sword.

Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo): Generally aggro, though not a fan of the all in approach. Open to a decent midrange or control deck, though I don't like the blue style of control.
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): I want to win. But doesn't need to be top of the line.
Favorite Cards/Colors: Good with playing anything, except heavy blue.
    Budget: Shouldn't be an issue.
    Staples Owned: No idea.

Looking for a deck that's aggressive without losing late game power. Alternatively, a deck that locks an opponent could be fun.

To those of you that run humans, would this replace Gather the Townsfolk in our deck? The protection seems nice, and exalted is always fun. Plus, it's a stronger late game play than Gather usually is. At least worth considering?

I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me, but I don't think Silverblade Paladin is that good right now. I have never really wanted to run him over Mirran Crusader. Having two dudes with double strike is cute, but having a dude with double strike that also has fairly relevant protections just flat-out seems better to me.

Maybe there's something I'm missing in the grand scheme of things, but I played Humans this evening at FNM and went 4-0 in swiss without a single copy of the card in my deck. I get what he's "supposed" to do, (make Champion of the Parish do tons of early beats) but he is craptastic on his own, and against some matchups, that's stupidly relevant.

He's allows for a faster clock on your opponent. I also run humans, and find that he makes us aggro that much faster. Also good against making your other card threats (Grand Abolisher, tokens, etc.) Having multiple threats is always better and I find that Mirran can be a bit too solitary sometimes. Though she is a better sword target. :3

  • posted a message on new liliana not so bad now?
In a deck where having lots of swamps matters, why is she bad? Her Ultimate I find does more to win than Lili 2.0 does, and her minus abilities aren't much worse either. And her +1 is always usable, something that Lili 2.0 cannot say.

I don't know if she'll work in the competitive environment, but I'm pretty sure the title of worst goes to Chandra still.

I'm thinking Red Green. Green gives you good creatures and Rancor, while red in this gives you really good filtering. The ability to push through all your land top decks faster than your opponent is an understated ability in limited, and can help you dig for an answer sooner. None of the other colors have enough good cards to warrant really including them and further complicating the mana base. I like keeping to two colors.

Interesting, I didn't know that there was a lack in a white sweeper. I kind of assumed that DoJ had been reprinted. As an aggro player though, there needs to be sweepers. As much as I hate them, without them I'll over extend all I want :3

  • posted a message on Blade Splicer + Restoration Angel?
I don't really think it's good enough to run over other threats. Bladesplicer is only good with blinking, and it's also really the only creature we run that would benefit from blinking: Champion would actually lose value. It'd be different if we ran a ton of ETB effects, but you can't justify running 4 blink effects for just 1 creature. I don't think it helps us all that much and while an interesting idea, isn't a very competitive one.

Oh look, more cards nonwhite control can't beat.

A perfect card for any pox-style deck, serves both as a discard fodder early on and later becomes your win condition. Sadly, there is no pox deck in standart or modern. Although loam might be interested in this.

I think with all the black cards fetching swamps, a smallpox deck would be interesting, since in a zombie shell, you have methods for recovering from all the self inflicted damage. With that said, Delver is probably the only deck that would actually only have 1 creature out at any given time, most other decks have multiple out.

Sorry, I didnt notice your post.

Its as simple as this. Outside of Maybe delver, what would fiend hunter remove whom you'd be fine with your opponent slagstorming your board and getting back? And heres my answer NOTHING. Decks can easily handle fiend hunter and get their threat back. Its difficult for people to deal with oblivion ring, unless they have an enchantment removal (boarded in) or their own ring. It also can deal with Sword of WAP and Anthem effects on the board. Since I am not playing thalia MB, I opted for the rings over the hunters. Honestly, I do not miss them. Rings are just an overall more versatile card than your hunters.

With Fiend Hunter though, you get another exile effect, plus I view him more as a tempo play. You play him, remove their biggest threat, which allows you to swing more immediately. If this is as explosive as you say it is, that ability to remove their biggest blocker should be huge in getting your biggest threats through for damage. It's not O-ring, but it's powerful in its own right.
