It's meant to be fuel for various cards in the format, including the larger rares/mythics. but I bet you'll see an eldrazi with "this gets a benefit if opponent controls a *card type here* in exile"

Come to think of it there was a GDS2 contestant who had a Colors vs Colorless set with a mechanic that was the opposite of Devoid, and had a "what is in exile matters" theme. Some of his submissions might be worth speculating.

This is why whenever I have a general I want to turn sideways I use Trailblazer's Boots. I have ever only ran into one person who doesn't use nonbasics in EDH. Since there is only a few ways to get Legendary Lands on your opponent's side you may have to compromise with these boots, Whispersilk Cloak, and Hot Soup (assuming you have Asceticism, Lightning Greaves, or Swiftfoot Boots out). Canopy Cover is also really nice.

Joking aside, have you played Oblivion? Particularly the Shivering Isles expansion. Given your references to Cthulhu and Schrödinger's Cat it seems like it'd be right up your alley. (Just be sure to bring your Calming Pants. They are essential.)

This is the first Bethseda game I have really played. Previously just dabbled in the fallout series but never seemed to get into them.

I'm probably going to stick with Skyrim until Fallout 4 and witcher 3 go on steam sales. For the current play through I am considering doing the main storyline quickly so I can use Dragons in the Civil war and then onto the Dawnguard.

My recommendation still stands. Shivering Isles runs the gamut of all the most notable mental illnesses; not a single person on the Isle is sane.

I always found random dragon attacks to be such a nuisance that I'd almost always avoid the main storyline in Skyrim. Unfortunately I never saw much of Dawnguard or Dragonborn, but what little I did see my Ex do seemed 10x more interesting than base Skyrim.

And if you think IRL MTG players have bad behavior, you should see football and hockey fans. They're far more mainstream, far more numerous, and far more angry.

That's why I said they're better at it. I don't recall hearing about a horde of angry MTG nerds rioting in the streets after their idol loses/ wins/ draws.

WAHT DID YOU SAY ABOUT ME ILL TAKE YOU OUT BACK AND SHOW YOU WHOS ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!11

Ah-hem! The enfranchised players do get very passionate when it comes to the game. I think it's just the nature of anything competitive. Very enfranchised sports fans can also be the same way; except they are better at it.

Though I do think it's funny you haven't seen this with comic book fans considering their nonsensical pissing contest over Marvel and DC.

I just hope the R/W legend is good this time. It's my favorite color combo, but I've only ever wanted the current ones to be in my 99 and not my 100th.

Most of my picks have already been mentioned. I spent a scary amount of time on 7th Saga...

The most difficult game I've played lately is XCOM: Long War. I just don't know how people pull that off in Ironman.

I personally didn't find Dark Souls to live up to its difficulty hype. It was still super enjoyable, but not impossible as so many were claiming. The dogs in the dark segment (Tomb of Fallen Giants was it called?) was probably the worst. I'm sure everyone that has played that game remembers that segment vividly... Definitely a game that rewards patience.

I agree. Dark Souls isn't hard, it just punishes big mistakes and has a high barrier to entry (much like our favorite card game), but once you've got the hang of things nothing should be too difficult. (except for Bone Wheel Skeletons)

I'll have to download a ROM of 7th Saga.

Just finished the main storyline from TES:Skyrim last night.

Already started the second play through with a different character concept.

An obvious lie. Nobody actually plays the main storyline of a Bethesda game.

Joking aside, have you played Oblivion? Particularly the Shivering Isles expansion. Given your references to Cthulhu and Schrödinger's Cat it seems like it'd be right up your alley. (Just be sure to bring your Calming Pants. They are essential.)

I tried making one of those ultimate weapons once... dear god, I wish you could skip the animation of the character forging the piece. The process of building the weapon was so mind numbing that you'd continually risk spoiling the formula because you'd easily loose track on where you were in the 10+ additions of one specific ingredient.

I loved that game too, but I wish they could have somehow sped up that forging process.

I agree. If they ever did an HD re release that'd be one of the improvements I'd wish for.

Actually this sort of system would be perfect for an MMO. Many of them always have the allure "you can be a legendary craftsman!" then have some WoW based crafting. If they really wanted to sell that kind of experience they'd go with LoM's style of crafting where you could actually be the best crafter on your server because no one would know how to replicate your results.

This is why I generally only go to my LGS on EDH days. So everyone can chill out and just enjoy themselves.

Went to play EDH on a day with a Modern event scheduled and had some jerk commenting on our game. One of the guys I was playing with said before the game that he had some proxies in his deck and asked if this was okay with everyone. There were no objections, and even though his deck was superior we still had a decent rapport going. Then the aforementioned jerk comes along and says to the guy "I thought the point of playing EDH was to play with the cards you already own." My opponent was at a loss for words. I interjected and said "I don't think he's breaking the game with what he has," and the guy buzzed off.

I mean, I don't proxy myself, but I still wouldn't jump into someone else's game just to be a jerk about it. What value does that add? You're just making everyone feel uncomfortable for nothing.

Posts were too long so I didn't have time to check if someone's already said this, but:
Most (like the vast majority) of Magic players are men, and in my exoerince men are way more likely to be needlessly aggressive or nasty to people. I don't know if it's because of testosterone or what, but that's my experience.
(As an aside, almost all of my friends are female, bar one or two guys). I feel like this may be part of the problem, as lots of bragging, aggro dudes in a card shop can sort of snowball into a culture of unfriendliness, particularly to eminently-targetble 'newbies.'

Men do tend to act more ape-like when a woman is around. However this isn't really a problem with men as much as it's a problem with humans in general. Since women can be really *****ty to each other as well.

I would not say I have a singular favorite game, but I do have a game I have play more than any other I own (exception the time sinks that are MMOs). Legend of Mana always kept me hooked. The combat was fun, the visuals stunning for the time (the hand painted backgrounds are still amazing), the crafting system is addicting and it takes a lot of play through to actually experience every side story and artifact.

I... I thought I was the only one! I know this post is old, but I'm going to QFT it anyways. LoM has a rich, vibrant, varied world, interesting characters, fun combat, and one of the most complex crafting systems I've ever seen. The methods for crafting are similar to scientific discoveries. Sean Kelson released his method of crafting on Gamefaqs which became so ubiquitous it was called the "Kelson Method." Even with his contributions fans couldn't crack how to make the most powerful weapons until Square released an Ultimania guide for LoM showing the necessary techniques.

Two reasons I think this game didn't get more critical acclaim is because the combat, while fun, is a little clunky on its 2.5D plane, and many things you should know are obscured. Things like unlocking skills, explanations of abilities on items, or the fact that items can have four abilities on them, but only display three.

Pardon. Three reasons: There isn't a cohesive main story, but a series of short narratives. I personally find this to be very charming, and more fitting of a traveling adventurer, but this is a turnoff for some.

Lastly here is an example of the Kelson Method from his guide. It details when and how much of a material needs to be added with breaks at certain milestones to show what the weapon's elemental alignment should look like at that stage:

    ---------------------------
    Ultimate DiorWood Tempering
    ---------------------------

This tempering creates the most powerful weapon using
DiorWood. An axe created with this method exceeds 999
attack power however, the game limits weapon power to
999! This is an extremely expensive yet powerful
method for tempering wood weapons and armor. This
formula not only makes 999 attack power axe it also
gives the weapon +9 statistic bonus across the board!

This is for DiorWood weapons and armor ONLY!. All other
materials, Metals, Aerolites, and Scales require
different tempering to reach 61 total points in essence
levels. Please don't try this with other materials
    you will be disappointed.

Look at the check points and save often print it out and
mark out the lines as you go along Smile

I am excited they're finally doing a new hero class. Artifact weapons look pretty cool too. I just hope they make Legendaries transmoggable eventually. If they do I'll grind MC every week until I get both bindings for Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker for my 'Lock, and make a point to only use SP swords. Also it'd be nice if they actually had casting animations for your weapons... excluding wanding of course.
