Mar 4, 2014Kumlekar posted a message on Off Topic: The Fungus TribeThere actually are cross tribe synergistic cards. The problem is that the powerlevel has to be quite pushed for them to be good. They work best in limited, and fairly poorly in constructed.Posted in: Articles

ok I think I will *picks one up for 60*
Agreed, and silence of stone takes down pod and swords.
Also, because of shimmering grotto (+a few m12 duals) the deck can essentially be run as a UG deck with other colors splashed.
Obviously, depends on deck, but this is probably the most relevant argument for preordain. Without shuffle effects, preordain can be used to completely filter cards with the scry. This gets more powerful with each one played (and other scry effects), but as soon as you shuffle, you lost any benefit. Ponder on the other hand always retains the same power at all times, and can be thrown into a deck without designing around it. With fetches being so important right now, preordain seems under-powered, but if tutors and fetches start seeing less play (unlikely as it is), it would be a much more powerful card.
First game I just pushed through a goblin guide, paying the two mana to attack until I had the spells necessary to kill him, he never drew a threat, and didn't have the draw to maintain his solitary confinement. Second game he made a stupid play on the final turn by not playing solitary confinement when he had it (he had two enchantress on the field so he could have maintained it easily), instead he tried to draw into a threat, thinking that I didn't have the seven damage to kill him, when I had three cards in hand, and three mana on the field. It was an easy 2-0.
I said death and taxes earlier, but I'm really not sure what the deck was. I remember seeing some brain storms and counters, Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant, Karakas, batterskull, stoneforge mystic, and jitte. (the jitte being the biggest reason for my loss)
4 Chain Lightning
4 Lava Spike
4 Rift Bolt
4 Reckless abandon
4 Fireblast
4 Spark Elemental
4 HellSpark Elemental
4 Goblin Guide
2 Volcanic Fallout
2 Price of Progress
4 Rachet Bomd
2 Pithing Needle
2 Volcanic Fallout
1 Red Elemental Blast
2 Relic of Progenitus
2 Combust
2 Leyline of punishment
The sideboard was less than optimal because I couldn't find some of the cards before the tournament.
I won against enchantress and tendrils, lost against Death and Taxes, GrindStone, and a blue control deck (not sure of the name). Not bad for my first legacy event.
In the future, I'll probably try to up the number of Pithing needles, and add in 4 vexing sushers to the sideboard. The Leylines, Combusts and Relics were pretty useless, but were mainly in there because they were slightly less useless than my other options.
For the sideboard I guess sulphuric vortex would be better than the leyline, I'll have to find some.
I'm thinking of aiming for something more like this:
2 Pithing Needle
3 Smash to Smithereens
2 Red Elemental Blast
3 Sulphric Vortex
1 Volcanic Fallout
2 Combust
4 Chain Lightning
4 Rift Bolt
4 Lava Spike
4 Reckless Abandon
4 Incinerate
2 Price of Progress
4 Fireblast
4 Goblin Guide
4 Hellspark Elemental
4 Spark Elemental
18 Mountain
4 Volcanic Fallout
2 Combust
1 Red Elemental Blast
2 Pillage
3 Leyline of Punishment
As you can probably tell, I don't have a clue how to construct a sideboard for legacy, most of the stuff on there is to deal with a few annoying decks my friends have that aren't really legacy competitive. The tournament I'm going to is for the opening of a new store, so its hard to tell what the meta will be.
I was considering putting mental missteps on the sideboard, but the 2 life cost feels like it hurts in most of the matches I've played, and the potential dead card sucks. I'm still trying to decide between having the volcanic fallouts or the price of progress on the main deck. Advice is appreciated.
