Recently built this deck as my first blue legacy deck, and I have to say its fun as hell. My one question is about dazes. I keep finding daze to miss become a dead card fairly early in the game in most of my tests. I've played against affinity (often doesn't tap out when using frogmite / enforcer), burn (a little better here, but the deck easily plays around daze), and illusions of granduer / donate (completely useless here). Will this get better when I start playing against more competitive decks, or should I consider a different counterspell (maybe one without an alternate cost godforbid). My list is using blinkmoth nexuses instead of mutavault mainly for budget reasons, but also because its an amazing card under standstill.

Well this is the deck that has gotten me into modern. Just wondering, why no love for Gifts Ungiven as a 2-3 of? Yes the mana is kinda high, but I've had some good experiences with it.

nah, I think its good for us, I'd rather have my opponent play daze, I can at least play around that without having to mull for shushers games 2 and 3. Admittedly I only started playing in tournaments after new phyrexia, but the card sure is nasty in UR painter or standstill decks (the only ones I've fought against where I really cared). On the other hand it means I won't be able to laugh when people play 2 life to counter my bolt or late game guide, but i'm willing to lose that experience.

I think nevermore in the main is key. Vs ts? Name ts. Vs control? Name doj, etc...

Agreed, and silence of stone takes down pod and swords.

actually I've been messing around with blue/green/white, the thing is its just too slow to not have good control spells with flashback (god damn I wish cabal therapy was in here). As someone pointed out earlier, forbidden alchemy is pretty scary if it draws into multch or itself. I'm going to go back to the drawing board though, and swtich to skaab ruinator + spliterfright as the win conditions.
Also, because of shimmering grotto (+a few m12 duals) the deck can essentially be run as a UG deck with other colors splashed.

It hasn't been mentioned a lot here, but Preordain is Insane in multiples! This is probably the best argument for using it. As the benefits to future draws stack.

Preordain also gets better the more you draw, as you are able to take advantage of the small increase in future card quality. If you don't have any ways to draw cards then Ponder is probably better.

Obviously, depends on deck, but this is probably the most relevant argument for preordain. Without shuffle effects, preordain can be used to completely filter cards with the scry. This gets more powerful with each one played (and other scry effects), but as soon as you shuffle, you lost any benefit. Ponder on the other hand always retains the same power at all times, and can be thrown into a deck without designing around it. With fetches being so important right now, preordain seems under-powered, but if tutors and fetches start seeing less play (unlikely as it is), it would be a much more powerful card.

I have a casual (read as only have one force, and no mutavaults) version of merfolk, and was wondering about splashing red for lightning bolt and reckless abandon. Any suggestions on other cards that might fit into such a build? I won't be piloting this for tournaments, just games against friends. I tried out browbeat on mws but is suffers the same problems it usually does (basically never doing what I need it to)

Great to see more burn players.

How on earth did you beat enchantress? No leyline?

First game I just pushed through a goblin guide, paying the two mana to attack until I had the spells necessary to kill him, he never drew a threat, and didn't have the draw to maintain his solitary confinement. Second game he made a stupid play on the final turn by not playing solitary confinement when he had it (he had two enchantress on the field so he could have maintained it easily), instead he tried to draw into a threat, thinking that I didn't have the seven damage to kill him, when I had three cards in hand, and three mana on the field. It was an easy 2-0.

I said death and taxes earlier, but I'm really not sure what the deck was. I remember seeing some brain storms and counters, Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant, Karakas, batterskull, stoneforge mystic, and jitte. (the jitte being the biggest reason for my loss)

Well I ended up going in with this list:

The sideboard was less than optimal because I couldn't find some of the cards before the tournament.
I won against enchantress and tendrils, lost against Death and Taxes, GrindStone, and a blue control deck (not sure of the name). Not bad for my first legacy event.

In the future, I'll probably try to up the number of Pithing needles, and add in 4 vexing sushers to the sideboard. The Leylines, Combusts and Relics were pretty useless, but were mainly in there because they were slightly less useless than my other options.

I guess I should have stated thats that was what I currently have, not my ideal decklist that I dreamed up. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions, I'll probably drop a few incinerates, reckless abandons or spark elementals for muraders. I have to admit I'm a little worried about price of progress because I've only played one game without it being a dead card due to my friends having extremely bad decks, but I don't know what I'll be facing. Most of the decks I've seen in my area have been merfolk, goblins, high tide or donate combo. In addition to those I've seen a few life gain decks. Thats based on a very small number of matches though.
For the sideboard I guess sulphuric vortex would be better than the leyline, I'll have to find some.
I'm thinking of aiming for something more like this:

Hi all, I'm new around here. Next weekend I'm going to be entering my first legacy tournament. After reading this thread and a few others, I've settled on a deck list that I'm happy with, but I'm struggling with the sideboard.

As you can probably tell, I don't have a clue how to construct a sideboard for legacy, most of the stuff on there is to deal with a few annoying decks my friends have that aren't really legacy competitive. The tournament I'm going to is for the opening of a new store, so its hard to tell what the meta will be.
I was considering putting mental missteps on the sideboard, but the 2 life cost feels like it hurts in most of the matches I've played, and the potential dead card sucks. I'm still trying to decide between having the volcanic fallouts or the price of progress on the main deck. Advice is appreciated.
