Quote from DReyFrowntown, but would anyone miss this feature? What does anyone gain from knowing x,y or z are reading a thread and there is a dozen people total? This is so inutile. Why not disabling this for good? I don't think anyone would shed a tear.Quote from TK-421Silly Iso, posting it in the non-business section, I've made sure the other higher ups will see it. I can't tell you if this can be done forum specific, as it's done at the admin level.
DRey, I'd be totally mad if there were mods outing invisible players. That's worth lynching over, since they're obviously trying to distract from themselves!
EDIT: The admins have mentioned that this feature is a site-wide option only. So the only thing we can do is remind users that Invisible is an option. It's up to game mods on how they handle Mods outing invisible users (though you have my opinion on it).
@mod_outing_people Actually this never happened but I think it's an unfair advantage for some people to know who's online and other not. Once in a high complexity game I replaced as scum quite late, so I needed a lot of time to reread before saying anything that could backfire (lots of day abilities), first thing I did was lye saying I had no idea about the game and that I would not reread, when in fact I was rushing throught the game like a madman. Back there I had no idea people could see me even when I was invisible so I thought that was a safe lie, however I think I was playing one of the mods. He never mentioned the fact that he knew I was lying all the time, but he pushed quite relentlessy for my lynch which went throught.
In the end it looks like this problem is unsolvable, I decided myself that I won't be playing with anyone that has modding powers because I think everyone should be always on the same grounds. Playing someone that can always see when I'm visible is similar to play someone that can always see your hand in magic imho.
DRey: The ability of all mods to see invis users is something that came about in the past couple months. Up until the end of last year, it was strictly global+.
Regardless, invisibility is unreliable anyway. There are ways to check if someone is online regardless of mod powers. The most common one is that the iTrader screen never lies.
I should also mention that I've never seen it be an issue. In the games I've seen with mods, nobody has ever tried to build a case or read off a player's online visibility. I've seen "hey, you're posting elsewhere but not here?", but that's about it, and that happens based off the physical posts, not where their user screen shows them being.
I dunno, I think I tend to agree with TCM. Attempting to leverage mod powers in a fun game built on a series of gentlemen's agreements (you won't discuss the game, you won't ninja-edit posts, etc.) falls afoul of the same sportsmanship expectations that you essentially agree to by signing up.
As for the benefit? We're a forum and forums work on a kind of feedback loop. People are drawn in by seeing how popular forums are. You don't want to start trying to talk about things in a forum that has no users. You want people to be able to reply to you. Seeing that we have ~16-30 users in our mafia sub round-the-clock helps reinforce that we have a vibrant community. Seeing that we have 7000 other users viewing the RM tells people that we have some hot new spoil. There's also some more fringe side benefits of course: for example, a game mod might know to stick around an couple extra minutes to be able to declare a lynch when they see someone about to post in their game.
