Well if you think a bit further long term, then booster boxes can be increase in value. A lot of sets have unopened booster box prices of more than the usual $100 you would buy when they're in print. Sets like Onslaught, Worldwake, Futuresight, Ravnica are all pretty expensive. Other boxes are in the $160 which is 60 more than the usual price for a box. So if you're willing to wait 2-3 or more years, you can usually make a decent investment if you don't open it though it may take a while to find a buyer.
Time for my normal gripe on FTV sets. I just have to ask if anyone has ever seen one of these for MSRP? I haven't, but I would definitely buy multiples if I did. I just hate that these end up being so inflated. They don't help the players, don't make things more accessible and the MSRP is a joke. All they do is give secondary market stores with access to them a means of gaining an enourmous profit margin on a boxed product.
They used to consider these exempt from the reserve list, but not anymore. New FTV sets follow reserve list rules.
I got the last one for $39 on ebay including shipping but that one kinda sucked.
I think chefs are in demand, especially for the more exotic cuisines -- e.g. Sundanese, Vietnamese cuisines. Obviously, as with all professions, those on the top earn a pretty penny though -- as with most other professions -- you're going to have to start small.
One problem with culinary is the fact that the restaurant business is incredibly volatile meaning you won't have great job security with a lot of places. On the plus side, people need to eat so there are a ton of places to work for. However, if you want to work at an elite place, that's a lot harder and highly competitive.
It does to a certain extent. The talent of someone who goes to a community college is generally quite a bit below that of someone who went to a decent state or private college. In my town, the kids who went to community college were the kids who either weren't smart or were really lazy in high school signaling they probably wouldn't be a top performer for a job. Also the quality of education between a real college and community college is vast so graduates from community college aren't nearly as prepared. If you have a choice, go to a legitimate college, not a community or online college because employers know the difference and you'll be stuck with debt and a hard time getting a job.
Does drafting determine the print run of a set? Worldwake pretty much sold out everywhere so was it a case of it having a smaller print run because of it not being drafted?
