I've been collecting and holding non foil and foil shocks, I need to unload one or the other, which is the best to keep holding? I've got 75 or so foils and 150 or so no foils? Or should I bite the bullet and keep holding them all? What's the ceiling on them?
Im in the same boat as you, but if you want to maximize your profit you should hold onto them for another 5 months when as the last set in the theros block is about to be released. I imagine that they will be about 15 or so a piece for nonfoils and about 40-50 for foils as people that don't have the shocks they need will start looking for them and supply dries up as no more rtr is being opened
Its funny that a thread like this would pop up, I always wondered if I were to make a thread about a reserved list card and said that it was totally uber and was underpriced, would people react and try to get in before the price spike just because of the thread made solely on this forums alone?
I just picked one up as well, one of the sealed packs showing was guard gomozoa (from the planechase with shardless agent I believe) might be checking out other targets in the area
I picked up a foil korean avacyn angel of hope a while back since I really liked the card and was wondering how much they are going for now? I saw a few foil japanese ones on ebay for about ~80 and a foil russian one for 300. I usually assume that korean is closer to the russian price depending on the buyer, but I think the guy that listed his foil russian one on ebay is off his rocker with that price haha.
I think that he'll see the same trend as sorin and tezz agent of bolas planeswalkers are expensive when they first come out, then dip, then if they see use they will go up for their time in standard. Theros still hasn't come out so anything is possible. He's at his low right now so he only has room to go up. Worst case scenario is that he will lose at most a few more dollars.
I thought that I was the only one as well noticing this trend, I guess not haha. I just browsed a few sellers and realized that their prices were around SCG prices when their sale's thread title is "Lowest Prices on MTGS" or something similar lol
Can't make any claims, but speculate with deductive reasoning.
Theory 1: Have you ever been to a Casino? As you walk to the bathrooms; the one armed bandits are going with consistent winnings. WHY? They are trying to tempt you into playing! As it follows, Wizards knows that some folks may see some new packs while checking out at Wal-Mart or Target. If you notice; the packs at walmart are near the cigerate counter to give the most visibility since that line in generally always open. If the packs yeild high value cards; you might play more and invest just as the casino does with slot machines. Target stores generally have them near far left or right side of the store at front door for maximum view. I have only seen the packs once, in the toy center.
Theory 2: I am lucky at Wal-Mart in Boerne, Texas and suck at local card stores.
Theory 3: Same as 1, but packs are really "charged" with good cards, because Wal-Mart has to move product fast or face a devalue in price or worse.
Theory 4: We are akin to gambling adicts and are looking for the best score on opening high value cards.
Shadowmore was the worst Box I opened/bought. There was no rare lands or anything above $2 as a rare. No Foil card either. Had to buy singles to get any of the good rares/uncommons.
I don't buy boxes or fat packs for any reason anymore, but I will buy a Walmart pack when I get a tank of gas. I have opened a Liliana of the veil, Fetch land (GU), Foil Deathrite Shaman+Trostani, Falkenrath Aristocrat+Huntmaster, Foil Jace (1.0), Thoughtsieze, and some others. It seems that 1 in 2 packs is a really good pick for packs at the Boerne, Texas Walmart. Although, my winning packs from FNM are 90% toilet paper. I guess the world balances itself out.
On that note, I too feel like the packs from walmart and target do give better things. Do you think that they are sorted differently from boxes due to being packed in those cardboard things?
When you guys opened that bad box, were you guys thinking that since this box was so bad, all the better rares and mythics must be in the other box? thats kinda what I was thinking and thought about buying another box LOL
Sorry about your pulls man. My box had six shocks, one foil.
I opened about 1 1/2 boxes worth of DKA, not a single SORIN! I lost my ass on those packs too, pretty much full of jank. Then I buy a pack for a friend at the card shop, then give it to him at work. Sorin + Lingering Souls in the pack.
Although this late in the release cycle, buying a box of GTC is a bad idea if you study the market.
nice pulls for the GTC! I know its bad to buy boxes for value, but its so fun busting packs!
Hey guys! My friends and I don't normally buy boxes, but we ended splitting a box of gatecrash and I must say it was probably one of the worst boxes I have ever seen haha. I was just wondering if anyone else had a bad experience like this?
Well on to what was in this godforsaken box
This box had 2 mythics
master biomancer and the black demon guy
all the rares were worth than the pack they came in except for 2 blind obedience and a legion loyalist
There were no shocklands except for a foil watery grave that was opened in the last pack. Meaning that if that random foil was something else this box could have been.. well you get the picture.
Far as I know, it's only a sideboard card in Standard right now. Gotta agree with lordofthepit23 on this one, the card will drop (especially once redemption hits). Long term, I think the card will go up, but right now I would not want to trade a Snapcaster for 3 of these.
EDIT: Got offered this trade recently, I'm still thinking whether to accept or not:
My:
1 Hinterland Harbor
2 Silverblade Paladin
Their:
200 bulk rares
Thoughts?
I think it depends on what sets the bulk rares are coming from, if they are mostly standard I think they have a small chance to grow if something shows up in the next sets. Overall I think that it would be an alright deal since if you ever decided to sell them at bulk price you could always get your money back

I dobt it'll go any lower since its from a pretty recent set and the phyrexian mana is is probably not coming back for a while if ever
haha i like your last theory the best i think

homelands wasnt a very profitable set in general I believe
