Bravo for this. As some note below, it's not the perfect article - but it starts the conversation, and that's the important thing.
For those who don't know the full story on who Jeremy Hambly is and what he did, this article captures it all.
In the end, this isn't about politics, thought policing or anything like that - it's about having the right to not get trolled out of our own hobbies. No-one deserves that. Not Christine, not anyone on here. And if we start a conversation to make sure no-one gets trolled right off MTGSally, good.

Dec 8, 2014CadaverousBl00m posted a message on The 2014 Optimal Multiplayer Cube - GreenPosted in: CadaverousBl00m BlogQuote from Blueduck »Treefolk is interesting. Have you mentioned that in years past? I know I would find it interesting if the final 2014 optimal cube used different archetypes from years past. Let's get some variety!
Wow, that was quick... I went to lunch, came back, and you'd replied!
I don't think I've mentioned Treefolk as a possible archetype in years past, but it's definitely been floating around in my head as possible. I run a mono-green Treefolk deck with half of these cards in free-for-all Multiplayer, and it's been quite successful. Coupled with the fact that Wickerbough Elder and Lignify have stuck in my cube and aren't moving...
And yeah, I'll switch up the archetypes this year... variety is the spice of life! I was going to make the green one Treefolk anyway, just to see how it drafted for everyone (and hoping that it doesn't end up like Merfolk... which basically consists of a bunch of first-picks and a bunch of last-picks, so no-one ever ends up holding the full tribe).
EDIT: Oh, and I should add... Lignify even has its own enter-the-battlefield catchphrase in my playgroup: "Watch out for that... treeeeeeeee!" -
May 12, 2014CadaverousBl00m posted a message on The 2013 Optimal Multiplayer Cube - WhiteI almost threw a white tokens archetype in this year, TBH! I think you could probably make a very good archetype as it is, but it would probably be multicolour (either GW with Trostani, Parallel Lives, Doubling Season etc. or BW with Sorin, Lord of Innistrad, Lingering Souls etc).Posted in: CadaverousBl00m Blog
I reckon white Soldiers is probably a card or two off being a very good archetype as it is - Darien, King of Kjeldor, Knight-Captain of Eos, Mobilization, Martial Coup, just about any Elspeth...
Can't say I've put a figure on the minimum number of turns per reset before a game is declared "not fun anymore", but my gut feel is that it's probably about 9-10 turns. That's long enough for someone who's had an imperfect draw or a disrupted setup to a) at least feel like they've got something decent going, or b) blow it all up with the reset they have.
Most of the resets in my own cube are quite conditional, too. Wrath of God is pretty much the only straight "blow it all up right now" reset I have. Disk takes a turn, Austere Command chops and changes what it resets, most of the red ones (like Blasphemous Act and Chain Reaction) won't necessarily get everything... Between limiting those you have, and making sure they're not all silver bullets, you should have a pretty decent balance of things (and it places greater draft value upon the really good ones - *** is a high pick in my cube, and rightfully so). -

The best thing I've found to do with the new sets? I usually want playsets of about nine or ten commons and uncommons from a set - just enough to justify splashing for a full common/uncommon playset (which can usually be had inside the US for under $30). I love buying one of these, and then letting my friends pick over the leftovers. We even split an M12 playset between four people recently and drafted it. -

@Zelderex: Yeah, I'm waiting to see if it stays banned in Modern, really. That is one Banned List in flux right now, apparently in the interests of knocking out Turn 1-3 kills. Not sure Valakut does that without Scapeshift. I wouldn't be horribly surprised to see them eventually ban Scapeshift and unban Valakut. Not sure that would make for a Modern-competitive deck, though.
@MrZeyeti: Agreed, Sorin's certainly not a house. I kind of expect him to end up price-wise about where Chandra Nalaar is now. He's now had his reprint (making him more available), and he's not seeing tournament play... eventually we have to reach saturation point, like we did with Chandra. At $5-6 a copy, I'm not interested in getting a Sorin or two to throw in a deck, but at $2-3, I probably am! - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
4 Gladecover Scout
4 Invisible Stalker
1 Argothian Enchantress
Enchantments - 25
4 Armadillo Cloak
4 Ethereal Armor
4 Ancestral Mask
4 Enchantress's Presence
4 Abundant Growth
2 Seal of Cleansing
3 Soul Snare
2 Arcane Denial
1 Replenish
23 Lands
I am fortunate enough to own a Replenish. You obviously don't need it, but if you have one, run it. It's bonkers, and it's going to never be reprinted with good reason.
I am slowly Modernizing this and turning it into Bogles myself. I will be swapping the Invisible Stalkers for Slippery Bogles, the Enchantress's Presences for Kor Spiritdancers and the Ancestral Masks for Daybreak Coronets (now that it's all cheap). I'm aiming to make it Modern-legal, as there's a bit of Modern play happening in my meta now. Soul Snare has also now been neutered in 2HG/Team play by rule changes - your opponents can specify that they're attacking your teammate to avoid the Snare (so I basically need to change these into PtEs anyway).
That said, we're talking kitchen table Multiplayer here. If you don't have Modern-legal restrictions, you should absolutely be running Armadillo Cloak and Ancestral Mask. They are the two most broken auras you can possibly stick on your dudes. So you've pretty much got the list I'd want to run, perhaps minus some level of removal. I am happily winning five-player FFAs with my decklist - the lifegain will keep you afloat.
This month, we delved into black and pulled out something that looks pretty tasty.
So with this one, I found myself trying to shoehorn in a discard archetype.
I had Hymn, Hyppie, Liliana's Specter and Duress high up in the list, and not a lot else. So some of the last adds were Raiders' Wake and Larceny. I remember Raiders' Wake being pretty annoying in IXL Limited, and I've seen Larceny in some lists. Does anyone run a hardcore discard theme in their cube?
I've actually got Fell Specter in my kids' cube - it behaved pretty well at M19 pre-release.
I run all three, along with Artisan of Kozilek in my kids' cube, and with a gun to my head, I'll say that Breaker of Armies is the best of the bunch. It performs as advertised (i.e. it breaks armies). Artisan is probably second, and Bane of Bala Ged and Ulamog's Crusher are probably about equal behind them.
I like the fact that Breaker of Armies is not an automatic derp-swing - you pretty much have to turn it sideways along with some other guys, resolve a combat or two, and generally interact with your opponent. It also causes some interesting play choices, in my experience (e.g. do I truly care about removing Breaker of Armies if I can at least get a saproling on the board to block it every turn, or do I just want to get rid of the 4/4 next to it that I can't block?).
Artisan's value is partially in bringing back the nastiest thing in your graveyard along with bringing its bad self along for the ride (and by the time you can resolve Artisan, you've usually got something dead and horrible).
Bane and Crusher are pretty much Eldrazi derp-swing.
The next episode in my smash-hit series.
Okay lads, what did I miss?
I felt pretty dirty having to leave Mist Raven and Whirler Rogue, for one - those two do work in my kids' cube.
My first tentative check at what I'm going to try and swap...
Definite
If The Wallet Can Take It
Lots of others that were very close, too.
I threw this solely in the Cube Articles sub at first, as I knew that was a safe spot (but Calibretto suggested I cross-post, so here we are).
So I am in cahoots with the guys at Strictly Average MtG, who are mostly tourney-heads... but there was literally a critical mass of them who wanted to create their own Peasant cubes for their home playgroups, knew that I was a cuber, and they were trying to add to the content roster on their site, so one thing led to another.
Peasant Cube on a Budget: White
It's pretty much just intended as an absolute base starting point for someone trying to get rolling with Peasant cube.
And, you know, given that my own one is powered down for kids... and some of you guys have been Peasant cubing for years longer than I have... YMMV with some of the idiot card choices I make.
So the current plan is to have one of these out on the first Tuesday of every month (so I'm good for at least the next six months in terms of topics, I guess!)... hope it helps someone (other than laughter material, anyway).
Cheers mate! Yeah, thought about it... might just do it.
And yeah, it's definitely not a perfect list, even by my standards... but that's kinda the point, I suppose, handing people something that they can at least start with.
There were seriously two or three different guys over at Strictly Average who wanted to start their own peasant cubes, but had no idea how to start... and that's how crazy article series begin.
First in a series of monthly articles to help people create a Peasant cube on a budget. Starting with white.
After narrowing that down, considering the following:
My sister had a cat do this once with a live foot-long King Skink on her wooden floor.
Can confirm card flavour is accurate.
It does indeed point to a Limited environment that makes multiple types of coloured mana easy to produce.
I just really hope they've actually given us one.
Is there room for Sweeping Giant in the top end of Boros, too? Six mana is a lot, but that's basically a larger, ground-based Shockmaw Dragon (and the Dragon is just about the top pick for the kids... not just because it's a stonking great dragon, either).
