Interestingly, their arguments for banning Baral in the deck (as opposed to just as the commander) and Smuggler's Copter echo the complaints that a lot of players have about Sol Ring in EDH, in that it unfairly advantages the players who happen to draw it early.

This is why I want WotC to take over the Commander banlist. Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, and Mana Vault make games terrible when they show up on one side.

The thing is. Fast mana is fundemental to EDH. Everybody has acces to these cards. Sure, sometimes you get lucky with your fast mana. Sometimes your opponent gets lucky. Sometimes that elves player swarms you t3. Sometimes you get stormed t2. If your playgroup is not that competitive, houseban the fastmana and problem cards. Do not drag the people that like these vintage style cards and playstyles to your more casual view of what the format should be.

Also. If you like playing new cards and don't want fastmana in your group. Then brawl is the format for you.

I think it's more a problem in large LGS communities where you have casual/competitive players mixed and the only normalizing factor is the official banned list. Like, it's no fun for anyone when one person shows up with a deck trying to combo out on turn 3 and everyone else is playing more casual decks. That said, I don't know if banning the super efficient mana rocks, effectively killing competitive multiplayer, is a good idea. Also, not everyone practically has access to mana vault and mana crypt. Vault can be rare and is still medium expensive, and crypt is still prohibitively expensive for many players.

Just do what people in ye'old vintage did. Play Null Rod and it's ilk. Learn to play answers.

Most people don't play enough answers in EDH. They just want to durdle and do their thing and get mad when their 10000/10000 Omnath gets pathed or their Gideon.deck gets Pithing Needled into a halt. They could have remedied this by playing more protection cards to protect their omnath or disenchants to get rid of needle effects on Gideons. But they won't. Disenchant isn't cool. They want to play more Gideons..

Even if you'r more casual inclined, you should learn the value of playing your own mana accel etc and answers to the things your opponent is trying to do.

The fact that they kept Copter banned in brawl because it defines who's gonna win leads me to believe wotc would ban the fast mana if they took over. Too many games are decided by who goes "land, sol ring, mana crypt, (whatever)". Stuff like Thran Dynamo, and Worn Powerstone are fine. But no rock should make more than it's own cost right off the bat. Especially on turn 1.

Yes, yes... I know the individual secondary market value of the cards. I also know that every product isn't meant for everyone. But, why price a product over the $150 mark when your game famously has the basis of being able to start playing for $10-$15? Many people have quit games and hobbies because their makers started concentrating on making more large, boxed products that sell at high prices, because that raises the price of each one-time investment into a game to "out-of-reach" levels. While not entirely applicable, the level of investment into the "official" products for a casual format like Commander/EDH is getting ridiculous.

The secondary market has no effect on pricing if WotC is to be believed. The price point of this set seems to hint otherwise.

As someone who always uses sleeves it wouldn't bother me as much, but they have to make every card available with the new back or they punish people who don't use dark sleeves. If this is a possibility, then ending the reserved list must come with it.

Itseems like they're trying to get more people to play Commander... And find other ways to push standard card buying.

This is all it boils down to. They never fully took over the commander banlist because it doesn't generate them much money. They printed decks but the way most of them sit on shelves forever shows they don't wanna keep doing that. I for one will not be buying into rotation commander.

Maybe making a new Commander format will finally get WotC to take the banlist into their own hands and make it better.

I do like seeing mythics that will be cheap. Makes me recall when WotC said tournament staples wouldn't be all mythics.....

All I can say is I wish the text were on the right hand side. I do like the design though.

Slivers will undoubtedly come back in the core set then. Too many people are a fan of them. Dominaria is going to sell like hotcakes and they know that. This will ensure that the core set at least sells decently.
How do you reach this conclusion? I don't expect Slivers to be in the core set at all. They could be, but I don't see how them not appearing in Dominaria makes you this certain they will.

Because slivers were a big part of M15 and people love them. Bringing back core sets and specifically saying they "wont be in Dominaria" leads me to believe that.

All I want is a UR artifacts matter legend. It's been needed for a long time.

Then maybe a B or BR demon legend that has an interesting effect.

Set is a bust. Boxes will be sub-150 within months just like IMA. They are only hurting their own brand when new players come in to see $10 packs and pull absolute trash.

Some good reprints at com/uncom were never gonna save it. And even then, WotC refused to throw us some bones (Cabal Coffers, Obliette, Chainer's Edict, Goblin Settler). Uncommons should not command $10+ price tags.

Unless they decide to print Demonic Tutor at Uncommon (and some other high dollar unc's) this set is a bust.

Well, which DM rare is worth anything much? Given the input requirement, the output can only be at this level. Sure, they could have skipped the rare in DM and put Voice of Resurgence instead...

They could have put Master of Cruelties. That saw (and sees in edh) more play than Notion Thief ever did.

I am the biggest fan of Notion Thief, but this is a poor choice. It's yet another sub $1 card in packs that cost 10 dollars. Seriously, screw you WotC.
