now that shocklands are confimred, what's the direction we take this deck come rotation? i know not much of ravnica has been spoiled (only 10 cards) but our mana base gets a little weirder. with only temple garden, bant seems a little harder. sultai seems nuts with both watery grave + drowned catacomb, hinterland harbor, and overgrown tomb + woodland cemetery. i'm leaning toward that. we get the fogs, control and kill spells. only bad part is we lose teferi. do we just go all in and put white in with chapel, fortress, temple garden + sunpetal?
so what are people's thoughts on dropping dismember? i've noticed that it's been helping the other decks more than us. right now im testing a 2nd world breaker instead of 2 relics (only 1 relic) and feel maybe a 3rd ballista would be nice. or a spatial contortion in the main that i can hit off of stirrings. something to help those early aggro matchups.
i've also seen people talking about fog but i'm not really sold on that.
well my team did terrible at SCG Worcester. We went 0-3 and i lost all 3 of my games.
R1: Boggles. 1-2. i just couldn't draw lands. mulled to 4 each of my losses.
R2: Affinity. 0-2. same as R1. Never could see tron on turn 3.
R3: Humans. 0-2.
So yeah. :/ I guess my 1-3 record from FNM the night before didn't help me out at all. i have 2 pptqs coming up in August that I'm going to so i hope that my records get better from that.
went 3-2 in a league last night. lost to jund death shadow and UW miracles. i just couldn't get ahead of miracles at all other when they had mana screw.
@OperationRemie That's just 1 card off my current sideboard so yeah it looks pretty good to me. If I were going to play a 3rd Claim though I'd probably cut Warping Wail instead of Emrakul, but it's pretty close.
i'm gonna test this week and see which one i like more. i think emmy will be a better option than wail will be.
took sicsmoo's list yesterday. went 3-0. beat burn 2-0, mardu superfriends 2-0 and mono white eldrazi taxes 2-1
allstars - walking ballista, oblivion stone and spatial contortion.
for scg worcester this coming weekend, i'm going to be the modern player for my team. i've gone 6-0 in the last 2 weeks of playing. i'm gonna be on mtgo all week grinding games in to get a better feel for the deck but i definitely made some clutch plays.
after talking to one of my teammates, he suggested a 3rd nature's claim over emmy. i feel that since it'll be the first week you can use m19 cards and alpine moon is a thing, i'm gonna go with that. we were also talking about a possible 4th cutting a thragtusk. he also gave me some tips (like bringing in claim's against burn) and i'm gonna look over sicsmoo's guide more. i really feel i can get my wins in as long as my team does well.
Can someone sell me on World Breaker? It's comparatively low powered, with the downside of needing a green, so it's really like an 8 drop. Wouldn't Emrakul be better in the main to open up a SB slot?
low powered? really? i think WB is amazing. exiling blood moon/chalice/valakut/anything really is very good. the fact that you can bring him back later on from the graveyard when you're putting multiple tron pieces out is fantastic. the reach is amazing. most people forget it has reach since it's just there on the card halfway down. i think you need to do more testing with it. emmy is nice but if you're playing against anything anti-graveyard, you're casting it for 13, which is the highest CMC the deck goes to. that's 2 sets of each tron land.
plus, you can put out World breaker out with just 3 tron lands and an already existing star/sphere that you didn't crack the turn before
but you do you, boo. i love having good ol' worly there
I think a ban is pretty unlikely, particularly for the announcement coming in ~2 weeks. The card was dominant in Vegas, no doubt, but it's just one tournament. Not nearly enough data to support a ban. Modern is cyclical and this will all settle down, I think. But it is worth watching the card going forward.
i agree. if kci is the issue, get rid of kci. but people will now just run more artifact hate. it happens all the time in modern.
The last 1-2 slots will depend on your meta, but I can't imagine wanting less than 2 Spatial Contortions if you have Humans and any other aggro/creature combo decks. Wail is good to round out the SB, and I'm a big fan of Emrakul as well.
I'm working on the guide now, should have it finished by tonight, or tomorrow if not.
i'm prepping for team scg in worcester. so i'm trying to figure out what i should do.

3x thragtusk
3x thought-knot seer
2x surgical extraction
3x spatial contortion
1x warping wail
what are your thoughts?
allstars - walking ballista, oblivion stone and spatial contortion.
