No, it is not. Wastes cards read "Basic Land" in the typeline but have no subtype. Wastes is simply a card name and you won't be able to use Navigator's Compass to make colourless mana.
This is an ETB trigger? Wow. This is an ETB trigger. Cards nuts. Excellent target for Goryo’s Vengeance?
Yeah, that's exactly what I thought.
Turn 1 Faithless Looting, discard Torgaar.
Turn 2 Goryo's Vengeance, reanimate Torgaar, opponent goes to 10, hit for 7, opponent goes to 3.
Turn 3 burn spell of your choice.
That sequence seems so easy it's scary. Am I missing something?
It's doable, requires 3 specific cards in the top 9-10 of your library, plus a burn spell, plus no lifegain shenanigans from your opp. It's a lot better Game 1 before hate comes in, but a T1 Nihil Spellbomb or a Blessed Alliance T2 or 3 just ruins your day.
That said, this could still have serious potential, it doesn't have to hit T2 to be a good play so that's a very big point in it's favour, giving you more time to assemble your reanimation engine.
Lifegain in Modern isn't really a thing outside Soul Sisters or MartyrProc, and it wouldn't matter since you go to 10 regardless of where you were at. However, decks in Modern do tend to drain their own life, with Shocks, Fetches, and T-Seize.
TBH I was thinking Blessed Alliance specifically for lifegain, it's a commonly played card in sideboards that can either kill the attacker or neutralise the lethal Bolt. That said, I can't honestly think that hitting Torgaar with a Goryo's is going to be a bad play, just that the T2/T3 win is rather unlikely. I know I'll be preparing to see this after DOM comes out.

Hi everyone, I have been playing this deck for years, ever since you would just jam 4 rhinos into your deck, although my question is that is anyone still playing abzan? I'm just worried that jund does what this deck wants to do but better now, so what have people been doing to keep this deck relevant?
The deck has evolved but it's still relevant. The key sideboard options that White gives you can shore up a decent number of matchups.
We don't generally jam 4 rhinos anymore, it's certainly an option but most places run 2. I have been running 3 for a while due to an abundance of Burn in my meta but for an open meta I'd support the camp on 2.
Could this actually be good? 4/4 for 4 is on curve, the fact that it can add random extra bonuses is just gravy.
Probably won't see play while Rekindling Phoenix is in the format but that card's OP
Weird that this is uncommon, the rarities are pretty borked in this set :') will be interesting to see what ends up being bulk rares now that most of the costly legendary creatures are uncommon.
Masters sets will now be themed and not format based, so Modern reprints and Eternal reprints will be mixed. It's just the same system as Masters 25 and Iconic Masters.
It's been said over and over in many different groups that Thrun is a really really really good sideboard card
As soon as I added him I realised I would never go back, he has so much utility in so many matches and is just an all-round excellent card
I have to be honest, I can't see a way of Mox Amber ever being worthwhile. If you want it to be consistently ramping you T1, then you need to be running 12+ 1-drop Legends to do that, and as none of the existing 1-drops see any play that seems bad.
In addition, when is spending 2 cards for a mana (Mox+legend) ever going to be better than BoP or Heirarch?
