I find the whole "It's a free service so nobody has a right to be critical" argument disappointing. Yes, it is a free service. Yes, he has the right to close it whenever he wishes. However, that doesn't mean that players aren't entitled to an opinion. It is clear based on the conversations in here that the site is something that players really like, and it will be disappointing to see it go.

My opinion is that shutting down the site without giving anyone else the opportunity to purchase it is an overreaction. Taking away an element of the community to protest against an action that will seemingly harm elements of the community is not the correct way to give voice to your stance on the issue. Why not sell it or transfer ownership to people in the community that are willing to put in the effort to keep it thriving?

As for the WPN debacle, I think the most important issue that needs to be addressed is why WotC hasn't given any justification for this. It's clear that at best they haven't been clear about what this will mean for the players - and that's doing a disservice to the people who love the game.

Weedmonkey does live :p I ended up taking a back seat on things after stepping down at 'News because life was determined to impale me on its Staff of Domination. I ended up flying up to my mother's after my uni year ended (and moved her into her new house in one day in 100 degree heat), and at the beginning of summer got offered a directorship at Magic-League, which i took. So, if i ever disappear for too long you can find me there :p

As for Worldwake...I'm holding out an opinion until I see the entire set. The only thing I want out of the set is something to balance the blasted metagame. Right now, I would prefer to go back to Faeries and 5cc, or hell, Affinity - if it meant a standard format that is remotely fun

I still exist! Just been a long Christmas and I've needed some time to chill out and be me. Failing all else, you can find me on IRC any day of the week :p

Mafia eh? Why I remember my first game of mafia like it was just yesterday. I got bagged with the cop role. Without any friendly advice, I made the intelligent manoeuvre of coming out as cop day 1 as soon as things started getting heavy, then got promptly nightkilled for my stupidity XD

Oh cmon Guardman, Anne Rice is also fascinated by the Grecian gay sex slave trade, writes homoerotica under a nom de plume and is fascinated by the gay scene. What's not to love about that? Grin

    Quote from Epicurus »

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

That is all for the moment.
