No differences here at all. Then again, my group never used partial paris. Some of my favorite competitive decks, like Animar, Ad Nauseam, and Food Chain Prossh just played more slowly than play groups with partial paris. Partial paris was broken as all hell, and I'm happy with to hear that something closer to my play group's mulligan has been adopted.

While I suppose I understand such a deck and the policy on which it is predicated, don't the combo players just play their best decks and win anyway when they see such a strategy coming? It's what I'd probably do. Well, definitely, to be more accurate.

Could always try to promote that people play evenly-matched decks. If you have, or if it fails anyway, then have fun, I suppose. Perhaps it's fun for the combo players to face the uphill battle. I've felt that way with the various combo decks I've played in my time.

The card's probably good enough to replace Disciple of Griselbrand. Is occasionally sing the legend's exile ability worth the tougher casting cost over Disicple and the inability to self-sacrifice? Probably, but I'm not yet sure. Moreover, I'm not sure my WB decks have Disciple in the first place. The only place I'd want it is in my Teneb deck, and I might find room for it or the Disciple. We'll see.

All in all, it's a good card. I find the art to be fine, but I don't see what others see in it. I definitely find all of the Ghost Council cards to have more interesting art. I'll probably make room for it, and maybe I'll try to play it alongside the Disciple in my decks. Promising set thus far.

I agree with Moxnix, except that I find douche scooping to be an unfair term. There's nothing wrong with making use of every aspect of the game. Concessions are a part of the game.

I have no problem with strategic concessions, and neither does my group. That the opponent died from my Sword of Fire and Ice-equipped Derevi by concession rather than combat (to deny me my draw, Derevi trigger and 2 damage) is just as much a win.

My point is that it's a matter of context. If your play group condones it, then fine. If not, and it's something you find reasonable (deterrence from attacking or killing you is reasonable), then I'd say concede and let the players now remaining in the game do whatever they wish. This second course of action of course depends on how your group will react to it. People are too sensitive; it's never hurt any of my friendships.

The new reanimator chick looks okay. Not sure if she'll make it into my Mazirek deck. We'll see. I figured that she'd either make a dragon token or have a dragon with her character prominent in the card's flavor, and I'm happy to see that it happened. I do like that she can amass experience counters at instant speed. Moreover, she does something significant without experience counters anyway. Solid design. I just wish Karlov had her ability...

I don't have room for our new Desertion-type card. I'll just stick to Spelljack.

Explain how Mizzix will be "busted in half"? Actually, explain what you think "busted in half" even means to you...Sorry, but the hyperbole and exaggeration around here sort of makes me want to stab something.

The inexplicable butt hurt is so real, lol. 1) often when happy, people spurt hyperbole; 2) the way you feel in response to what the poster said is hilarious. Careful, lest the fun police stab you! Or whine pointlessly. That too. Probably that, in fact, and not the first thing. Probably.

After having first misread Command Beacon, I'm still a huge fan. I am looking forward to running this in the majority of my decks. A few (like Animar) won't really like it, but I see this card proving itself to be an extremely valuable resource in the months to come. I need about 30.

It's so weird, but I think Skullwinder kicks Eternal Witness out of my Animar deck. Anything proving itself better than Witness (aside from from Regrowth, even circumstantially, is so bloody rare.

Sandstone Oracle is probably great for Goblin Pope. How I'll avoid an average CMC of 4, though, is beyond me. I'll have fun trying.

I'm disappointed with Ezuri, but I still might build him.

The fact that the deck will be so general centric turns me off, as does the limited number of things that go crazy with Ezuri, like Fathom Mage; Mycoloth; Sage of Hours; and so on. Without Ezuri, or with Ezuri and without any enabler out, I expect that I'd feel especially vulnerable as the rest of my creatures are small in power. There are measures to be taken to mitigate this problem, sure, but I am rather concerned that the new Ezuri will just be extremely underwhelming.

Well, Ezuri looks awesome. Please deliver with a cool card, Wizards.

The BG shaman could be good. Not a fan at all of the art. Maybe if she interests me for play, I'll have her altered.

The UR goblin is interesting, but another general in her style makes me consider not building her.

Daxos...eh. Underwhelming, but he's got cool abilities.

As a huge Ghost Council fan, I really want to see something amazing done with Karlov. I'd love some reanimator support.Even still, this cements that my soon-to be rebuilt WB deck will have either the entire council at the helm, or at least one prominent member. I'm excited for this one.

I really like this new snake. Some political games along with another, arguably better body makes me happy. Sign me up.

I type this hoping that this thread's not to complain and harangue formats, but rather to request honestly advice on how to play Magic.

I think taking another look at EDH could be helpful. In my view, it's the best format in Magic. EDH is Magic for me; completely synonymous. I've played competitively and excelled, but it's not interesting for me. It's fun to compete with friends, in my opinion, in a format that lets me play cards that I love. Demonic Tutor, Sol Ring, and others are at the heart of Magic, and being able to play with such cards is always great. I'd never bother with standard or modern.

If the people you see play are horrible, then my suggestion won't work. Nonetheless, it's common knowledge that letting one experience sour oneself on something is often a mistake. Look into your area's groups, see how people behave, and have some fun. It might just work.

As a side note, I always find the trolls' baiting with comments like "EDH is stupid" to be hilarious. 1) it's almost never a statement of genuine sentiment (the whiners tend not really to care about formats they don't play, as an average person probably would); and 2) it's almost always an attempt to draw attention in raising the ire of fans of a given format. It's petty, but almost adorable. The otherwise unimportant struggling to grasp that brass ring that is relevance.

I use it in both my Kresh, the Bloodbraided and Ghoulcaller Gisa decks, and it's fantastic there. I've also used it in Varolz in the past. It's a fun card with some neat applications.

Card looks fine. Just not what I want in a general. Perhaps if I go the more casual route sometime.

Still, a 4-mana creature with stats like those isn't bad by any stretch. Moreover, it's really not as though evasion for her cannot easily be tutored up. This card will probably be a hit with the more casual EDH crowd, and it has some potential for moderately-competitive play groups too. All in all, it's what I'd expect from a Commander deck, and that's a good thing.

I'll never have an ear to lend to those who complain about RW being combat-based as long as UB is mill-based. Even then, combat-based is fine, and Wizards in my view need not change its philosophy. While there are other avenues to pursue, I'm hardly sad not to see the Blood Moon/Thalia/Rest in Peace hate machine that people want.

  • posted a message on Players in my playgroup ignoring the commander banned list.
easily the biggest fear for me in EDH is losing my group. Though I could play at a different shop with different people, it would not be the same. For this reason, I find not playing with people in a group an especially difficult decision to make.

That said, if you play differently from these people, and it is affecting your enjoyment, there is not much latitude for you in how to resolve your problem. If talking does not work, then most unfortunately, you should probably leave them out of your games.

If nothing else, the banned list provides consistency amongst groups, and most on this board (likely not the most vocal) would agree that is the way to play. Without this, there is less opportunity to foster the growth of the EDH community, and it is unfortunate that your friends do not see this.

I've seen and heard of the old "cast Obliterate, then concede afterward" play, as well as variants involving Pox effects. The end result is always the same—roll the spell back and play as though the player just conceded.
