I think what he is asking is about gloss surface differential.
I find that the more I thin my paints with water(especially black) the less glossy the end result will be(goldens, my valejos are already matte). This will also give a smoother finish that catches highlights less and more or less will disappear inside a sleeve. Under a glaring light you can usually still see the transitions, but a light sealer will usually solve that too.
Isn't is amazing sometimes how your eyes can't see a color difference under various lighting conditions, but then the scanner can. Drives me crazy. And I can pass the Farnsworth Munsell color test for work.
I like to use Krylon Matte 1311. While they don't necessarily need it, spray finishing will do a lot to bring the sometimes glossy paint and card down together. This goes a long way to making the paint and non painted areas more homogeneous.
I also recommend warming the can in warm water until it no longer cools down when you shake them before you spray. Gives a more even spray for further down into the can before it begins to spit.
He wanted a Worldly Tutor with one of the better targets in his pauper cube. So I changed the head of the staff to Pelakka Wurm.

The actual video quality isn't that great because I recorded on a whim(in the wrong format). From a commission from last month.

I webcam videoed this one with vlc player. Can't for the life of me figure out how to convert the result to a format Premiere can recognize.
