Shockwaves posted a message on Temp Banlist Thread: DRS Banned, BB/Nacatl Unbanned! The DRS ban was kind of surprising to me. I mean for how 'opressive' it was, there were still lots of competitive decks that didnt use it at all. Regardless of whether I like it or not, at least it will shake up the format, something I think everyone was ready for. Jund will still be good, but clearly not as good as before tonight. It certainly wont be the best deck of the format but should remain tier 1. I honestly dont think Faeries will even be that good in this format but mono black could become a thing again. 4 color zoo decks are going be awesome and probably become a new tier 1 deck.Posted in: Modern -

It's more healthy and enjoyable than it was 10 minutes ago.

Nope. BGx just took a huge hit. I'm just glad that I never invested in those Deathrite Shamans. -

Valanarch posted a message on [[Official]] Current Modern Banned List Discussion (Next Announcement: 1/27/14)Posted in: ModernQuote from bocephusThink about building a new format that you want the largest possible group to play. Now think about the ban list that needs to be made prior to the advent of such a format hoping the largest group plays. If JTMS was legal form the get go, Modern would not have lasted the 2 years it did. Its a love or hate card and the majority hate it. I am not saying that JTMS will always be on the list, but this is not the time to bring him in the format. All it would do now is push a percentage playing now out of the format.
As for top, this is not Legacy. Miracles would hurt the format. Also top has proven to be a logistic problem in the past for paper tournaments. A good top player can play the time as well as the opponent, meaning if they are going to loose they can play at a reasonable amount of time and still draw out the match.
Cards shouldn't be banned just because people don't like them. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

And at this point, I feel that a: if you had wanted to get a set of Tarmogoyf, it really isn't worth the expense, and b: fetchlands are approaching the levels of being not worth the expense. Wizards has the ability to reprint those, possibly even in a future standard legal set. In the meantime, it might be time to(and I know this sounds like heresy, but just think about it for a second)consider trying to craft manabases that don't use fetchlands.

Honestly, if people here read this statement and think there is absolutely nothing wrong with the way Modern is working out right now, I will have lost all faith in the playerbase.
Magic(and other HOBBIES, for that matter)was never meant to be something you invest in. It was meant to be something you play. If you think you're "investing" in Magic, I strongly suggest you keep your day job and think about investing in something a little less volatile. The stock market, maybe. I don't exactly want EVERYTHING to be 50 cents each, but the prices they're at now are ridiculous. You can point me towards numbers from recent events to try to refute me, but I would have to ask: how many of the people who have been going to these events had most or all their staples before the price spikes?
This is a card game, people. It's not real estate, it's not gold, it's a card game. Card games are not for investing, they're for playing. If you ride your money on the value of Magic cards, you are not investing. You are gambling. There is a huge difference.

New Phyrexia was the most recent set that gave us Equipment cards that are playable in multiple formats. Runechanter's Pike in Innistrad saw play in Standard, but never really got into Modern. Elbrus never saw play in any non-limited(or casual)format and never will without a SFM unban. There have been literally no constructed playable equipment cards since. I'm not sure what the next blocks will bring, but I honestly get the feeling that between the Caw-Blade fiasco and realizing how silly the idea of Living Weapon was, they're going to be dialing it back on the equipment for some time, with or without Mystic being unbanned. Do I want it to be? Yes. However, I don't expect it to be for a while.
On a side note, I always find it ironic when people shoot down thoughts on a card being unbanned on account of it being someone's pet card, and then these same people outright state they want their pet cards unbanned.

argumentdebate is over Chrome Mox? Sure. I'll compare it to the closest thing to it that's played in Modern, that being Mox Opal.CHROME MOX:
-Requires you to exile a card from your hand to do anything.
-Only adds mana of the color(s) of the card you exiled.
-Can conceivably be played in any deck(or at least, any deck willing to put up with pitching a card to use it).
-Isn't legendary.
MOX OPAL:
-Has no cost to do stuff on cast(that comes once it's in play).
-Adds one mana of any color(assuming it's active).
-Requires you to have 2 other artifacts in play under your control to do anything.
-Is legendary.
Now, despite the fact that getting Metalcraft online isn't the most difficult thing ever, the only decks I ever hear about running Mox Opal are various Affinity builds. Then there's the legendary clause, which prevents you from having multiple Mox Opals sitting on the field pumping out colored mana for you. With Chrome Mox, you can run out as many as you feel like imprinting cards for and drive up your mana pretty fast into things. While it requires card disadvantage, I do believe Chrome Mox has a slight edge over Mox Opal when it comes to usage, and would therefore be a risky(but not by default format-breaking)unban.
Keep in mind, this is purely a comparison of two similar cards, and should not be taken as any views on any sort of decks.
