I love him, but I mean, unless there's some kind of werewolf deck running around standard, I'm not sure where he'll see play.

Then again my argument was never that control takes more thought.

Oh yeah? You misunderstood my post, brotherman.

I just don't get how it's fun for those players to just play as many creatures as possible each turn and tap them. Control match-ups are awesome games where each player has to think and react and play well to squeeze victory from impossible situations.

Lol, contradicting yourself much? You were clearly insinuating that control takes more thought from the start. You've dug yourself a narrow-minded hole, just quit while you're behind.

Purely control player? Never played anything but control? I've played aggro, and control and some mid-range. Whatever seems best to attack the metagame you're playing in is always the best choice, why must we pigeonhole ourselves to one defined archetype of play style versus any other? The flexibility you must have while playing an aggro deck is a great asset to your game in general, especially if you're playing control v control. Try aggro and come back to control and if it truly hasn't changed your play style for the better at all, than I shall yield to you good sire.

She really doesn't seem too bad, especially if there are enough graveyard tricks to be had. Maybe her value won't be seen until Dark Ascension. Hopefully she doesn't go over $15, because unless she's fueling the whole deck, no reason she should. Like the flavor of it a lot though, very interesting overall after reading the accompanying DailyMTG article.

I hope I'm not the only one that thinks this card really isn't THAT good. People seem to forget they'll have to pay mana in order to draw that card. In no way is it free.

With how underwhelming Scars block ended up being, I can't help but think Innistrad will fix everything and be excited about it.

I don't know if 12 post will be or is an issue. With my experience so far, it's not that difficult to beat.

Might want to toss the two Fireblasts and a Zuran Orb in exchange for three main deck Path, which tends to be invaluable. Your sideboard seems pretty standard for widespread hate.

yeah. its too slow and the mana requirement is to high. against decks you want it against it coems out turn 2 or 3, tapping out each time (green sun zenth) by then you have to deal with the thing already reannimated, or more then one dredge target (or a couple fetches for the knight) then your mana stays tied up keeping them down, you never can gain an advantage. It also messes with mulls as you need mana to run it, and with relic you only need one or 2.

Sigh, oh well. I was hoping it might be a bit more effective. Guess I'll stick with Tormod's Crypt. What's most people's strategy for NO RUG? I've personally been boarding in Runed Halo, Phyrexian Metamorph and Angel's Grace to try and keep it a race. Should mention I'm playing Stoneforge Zoo.

The reason he's played a lot is three fold. First of all, he's a one drop like you said. Besides Goblin Guide red doesn't have access to a plethora of amazing one drops, and when you stack him up against things like arsonist, skitter of lizards, and scamps he's very competetive against them.

So that's the first reason, you want more one drops. Onto the second reason he's played, and that's Red lacks what most other colors have easy access to, and that's card advantage. Red doesn't get draw engines in general and very rarely has cards that actually get you up on cards ever. Red tends to run out of gas very quickly in general and will look to get the absolute most efficiency out of every card it plays. That's where Spikeshot comes in... would you rather play a burn spell from your hand and lose one more card to get rid of that pesky cobra, OR pay mana and do it for free? How about that really annoying planeswalker who's about to ultimate? Maybe you just need a couple more points of damage to the dome to be able to burn them out next turn with your two burn cards. Anyway you slice up the scenario he provides card advantage by allowing you to eliminate your opponents cards, and life total turn after turn with the one time investment of a simple one drop earlier.

Lastly, he's played because sometimes he just does amazing things. Its rare, and it doesn't happen every game, but its easy enough to set up and it makes SUCH a huge impact on the gamestate that it's worth it. Sometimes you get to drop a Teetering Peaks, burn for 3, and swing for 3, and when you take a 1 drop that you put down on turn 1 or 2, got in a couple swings with already, and maybe a burn or two, and now you're hitting something with it for 6? That's the definition of card efficiency.

No other one drop in red can provide so much for so little. Arsonist can't matchup to this, and neither can skitter or scamp. Furnace scamp infact is the only one that comes close to it's efficiency.

Feel free to disagree with me or refute anything I've said but you can't deny the fact that almost every time a red deck places in the top tables or patrick sullivan is running it, it has a spikeshot in it. This is why.

    This.

Spikeshot is just efficient as all hell.

    Yessssssssssssss
RDW is going to be epic until rotation, and after that probably still be quite good, or good enough to splash the major elements in another great deck.

Is there not any merit left to a Chapin-style Grixis build, or has this been thrown out the window in favor of the Skirge-Swords build?

Personally, I play a Grixis build and I've found it to be quite effective.

When you copy a chalice you don't actually get any counters.

I had thought so, my playtest group had insisted otherwise. Nothing better than saying I told you so Grin
