Speaking of Ugin, I'm honestly not sure if I want him to be the walker that created Ixalan's Binding in the first place. There are clues that support his involvement in the weird phenomena on the plane, but I think it'd be neater if Elenda or another being we've never met was the origin of the binding and/or the Sun. It'd make the multiverse feel a bit bigger that way IMO.

Maybe the binding was created in response to Immortal Sun being stolen, so it doesn't go out of world.

Nah, everybody knows that Niv-Mizzet is gonna turn out to be Bolas's son. Wink

And the thing Ral Zarek is working on for Bolas is family reunion party? Immortal Sun as a gift for all the missed birthdays (and science fairs), that's a neat idea.

That presumes that Post-mending our Lili would have physical relations.

With Jace, for example. Which is as outright said in some of the stories as it is posible in PG-13 medium. And it's good they didn't procreate, because their kid would need so many therapy sessions.

Anyway MtG realizes a lot of its players are dads and moms I guess. Hundred year old Lilys and Bolases with no kids? I mean come on.

Lili, as healer-turned-necromancer, definitely knows how to deal with unwanted pregnancies. And knowing her self-interest, all pregnancies would be unwanted.

I think the knights prefer the show-off way of dealing with problems, not the "lesser evil" way. Bashing someone's cranium in is primitive, brutal, and gets your feathers dirty. Walking away from enemy that's surrounded by flock of raptors gives you style and creativity points.

The most interesting implication of Vraska taking an Oath for me depends on what the Gatewatch will do with Liliana. Imagine this juicy love triangle.

Edit: on that note, why does lil Jace keep falling for manipulative women/gorgons?

I've been bouncing between Jund and Abzan for the last couple of weeks, and the conclusion I've come to is that I wish I could run both Terminate and Lingering Souls in the same deck, and I'm 100% Terminate > Path because of the issue Reid speaks to.

That conclusion is probably the reason why the BRGw Death's Shadow exist(ed) and why people tried to splash white in traditional Jund since Innistrad. Neither seems to have worked out in the long term.

The "Jund Gods" list from couple pages back got me thinking about Dark Confidant. In the same deck with 4 of 5-mana cantrips and Hazorets it seemed weird, but what if one was to replace in more traditional built those 5-mana cantrips with Bob? There is an opinion that Wraiths, together with Baubles, are "bad cards" run for the sake of Traverse. And Bob generally does similar things Wraiths do - turning life into cards and turning on delirium as a creature (because let's be honest, nothing dies as good as Bob does). The tech of Bauble=>Wraith=>fetchland is lost, but nevertheless, the potential to draw more than one card and sneak in some damage to opponent seem worthwile to try it. Does anyone else feel I'm onto something or am I just rambling nonsense?

Hello! I'm new to both mtgsalvation and modern Jund, having recently picked up the final pieces I needed within the past month or so. I understand, both from personal experience and through watching others play, that lightning bolt is poorly positioned right now, due to rather large creatures dominating the format. I was wondering, is it possible to create an aggressive form of Jund where lightning bolt can transform from a spot removal spell in the poorly positioned match-ups to an excellent finisher? I'd really like to play more than the odd 1 or 2 I've been running with.

I think this would then just be a bad version of burn. aggressive decks either need enough reach or have something unusual (like CoCo/Chord in elves) to be effective. DS decks can be quite fast. Jund would then just be a slower aggro deck with some reach and overall you loose consistancy. I think this would not be viable. Jund is made to grind.

I don't mind the grind, I was just wondering if there was a way to make bolt good again, such that we could easily turn the corner in those slightly unfavorable match-ups and starting bolting upstairs. Maybe aggro is not what I meant, but more tempo?

Well, there's this thing (Burn/Jund hybrid) http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/swiftspear-stampede/ that the guy maintained was the best thing since sliced bread.

And I'd personally argue that the new Tarkir is a lot less interesting than the old Tarkir.

    AMEN.
I honestly don't understand that decision—
they go through all the effort to finally give proper names and identities to the wedges,
only to completely erase that by the end of the block?
    How is that productive?

Now that I think about it, they more or less did the same thing with Alara.
They're going to need to do some serious retconning with either plane
for a return to be appealing for me.

With Tarkir, they made the mistake of overvaluing how popular Dragons are*, and undervaluing how much people liked wedges.

I don't think they need to retcon a return though, they did hint at dissent in the ranks of the dragonlords, and remnants of the old clans still existing, so I think a return would be open conflict between the dragonlords and a resurgence of the clans.

Particularly if they specify that the dragonstorms only happen while Ugin is physically present on the plane, so if he's gone the storms stop, no more new Dragons, and the clans see the opportunity to strike.

*That's absolutely not to say Dragons aren't popular. They're the most popular race(species) in Magic. But people also really seem to like wedges.

If/when they return to Tarkir, I hope they finish the command cycle with enemy-paired ones. Maybe with commands of anti-Dragon rebelion leaders?

Considering abundance of themes in Ixalan - Mesoamerican lore couldn't carry entire block on its back because people generally know ***** about it. MaRo talked about how hard it was to find Egyptian mythology tropes that were widely recognizable for Amonkhet, with pre-Columbian background I imagine it even harder.

I goldfished very similar "Abzan Death's Shadow" some time ago, but with 3x Lingering Souls MD in place of one land, Pulse and CB.

Also, what's the opinion on removing "BG Rock" from thread's title? It could free someone to make separate thread for it, since here it is Abzan almost exclusively.

How about Giant Solifuge? It's hasty and hard to kill, easily casted with hybrid mana.

I would skip the X in activation cost, whole that "If its converted mana cost ..."(as no one would use other way than B,tap: Confidant.) Then, it could even be an uncommon.

    Benga, The Veteran 3RR
    Planeswalker - Benga
    +3: Destroy all tapped lands.
-2: Until end of a turn, unblocked creatures you control gain double strike.
-10: Target player takes an extra turn after this one. At the end of that turn, he loses the game.

So, it's nice design. Better than most demons, as it strikes once before the upkeep cost. I would play it.
    Another aura:
    Marks of Vigor G
    Enchantment - Aura (C)
    Enchant creature
Whenever enchanted creature deals combat damage to a player, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
When ~ is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, return ~ to its owner's hand.
