I really hope this is just a step towards playing cards as they are written.

I’d like to see a world where spells that could target planeswalkers just say target planeswalker like Hero’s Downfall and cards like Lightning Bolt can’t interact with them at all.

This would allow for some more design space and would reduce the power of some of those cards. Not to mention, it would make the rules simpler for new players.

Have you even looked at how Lightning Bolt was originally written?

And how in the world is Bolt over powered? I played this card for years and would rarely call it OP unless I was specifically talking about Standard. Usually, I would say Standard cards are under powered.

Edit: I see Rakath posted before I did. Nonetheless, the point still stands.

See my other post above, and I am not saying that Lightning Bolt is overpowered, or that it needs a nerf. I am just saying that you could open up some design space if you removed its (and cards like it) power to hit planeswalkers. The same change could help simplify the game for new players.

    Just Imagine:

    Lightning Bolt R
Lightning Bolt deals 3 damage to target creature or player.

    <card name> R
<card name> deals 3 damage to target creature or planeswalker.

    <card name 2> R
<card name 2> deals 3 damage to target player or planeswalker.

    <card name 2> 2R
<card name 2> deals 3 damage to target creature, player or planeswalker.

Please don't take this as me talking about lightning bolt in specific rather I'm talking in general about all cards. For example imagine cards like Flametongue Kavu that you could create a variant of to hit planeswalkers.

So... if they have a Bolt from Alpha they can target Planeswalkers, but any other Bolt can't?

(This is comically missing the point for a joke about the original Bolt text being nearly EXACTLY THIS)

No, I don't mean that. I mean if a card like Lightning Bolt, who's oracle text (and most prints) reads
"Lightning Bolt deals 3 damage to target creature or player." then it shouldn't hit planeswalkers and instead they should print another card that might read something like:
Super Lightning Bolt deals 3 damage to target planeswalker or player.

  • posted a message on Heroic targeting question
The best way to tell if something will trigger heroic is to look for the word target, if the card you play says something like put a +1/+1 counter on target creature, then it would trigger heroic.

If it instead it says something like Put a +1/+1 counter on a creature you control, it would not.

Edit: Retreat to Kazandu won’t trigger heroic though cause it will be a permenant when it targets your creature and not a spell.

Epochrasite dies, you control both abilities so you chose the order they go on the stack. Resolve them accordingly.

I'm pretty sure you will decide what X is then subtract 2 from the spells ending mana cost.

    for example X=5 --> (X+X)-2 or (5+5)-2 --> 8

    Hope that helps

Deal 3 damage to target creature or player.
    Draw 3 cards.

    I'd play that.

You forgot to add 'as an additional cost discard two cards'

he casts them for the madness cost... that's why its 1RRR

Still, if you start with 5 cards in hand and you cast cathartic reunion. You don't end up with 7 cards (which it what would happen if it said draw 3) you only end up with 5, because as an additional cost you must discard 2...

I'm not totally sure that would actually win right off the bat, since, as far as I'm aware ''whenever a land enters the battlefield...'' counts Splendid Reclamation as a single instance: In other words, if they all come at the same time, it counts as one.
That would be amazing if it work(ed) though XD.

It does work, the retreat will trigger for each land that splendid reclamation puts into play.

I hope it's not tuktuk. It would be kind of anti-climatic since that token already exists.
