I see a lot of hate going around for the cat tribe. Personally I think it was a brilliant move by WotC. Great way to market to the female demographic that is sorely lacking.

In addition to the excellent suggestions above, other options include:

    Hanweir Garrison
    Pia Nalaar
    Squee, Goblin Nabob

Not sure how these fit in specifically with multiplayer but they're just good 3-drops for cube in general

Mouth // Feed and Never // Return were niche playable...this is at least that good.

Driven // Despair is the poster child of a "win more" card. It does absolutely nothing when you're behind. Mouth // Feed and Never // Return have relevant abilities regardless of the board state. Never // Return is even good for cube. Driven // Despair will be decent in draft and fun in EDH but that's about it.

I think it really puts into perspective just how absurd creatures have become when people are poo-pooing this.

False. Primeval Titan is absurd. Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is absurd. Steppe Lynx is infinitely more absurd. The only place this will ever see play is in a janky desert-themed deck at your kitchen table. They've been constantly watering down this game more and more since OG Zendikar.

Good. I prefer a lower powered, more balanced environment to what we get when Wizards puts out OP cards.

Yeah, it's so much better being told by WotC which version of Gideon I'll be playing in standard while the rest of the set is draft fodder. Sets today have a couple story line related cards that are severely pushed and the rest of the set is worthless cardboard. This hydra was created for Timmy, by Timmy. It's just another beater in an exhaustive line of beaters. Vengevine is almost a decade old and it's light years ahead of this card. Now that's power creep. I'd put this card more on the power level of Festerhide Boar

Thanks for proving my point entirely. There was a period where this would be one of the best creatures in the game. Erhnam Djinn and Lhurgoyf used to be top dogs. This is leagues better than them.

So yes, it puts into perspective how absurd creatures have become.

    Whatever you say Kellyanne

I'd love to see the Cabal as the antagonist and a story revolving around Mirari-enhanced pit fighters

    - I like the planeswalkers they chose. They're pretty powerful iterations of Gideon, Chandra, and Nissa. That being said, their art sucks.
    - I'm not impressed with the decklists. Nicol Bolas' deck is pretty good but the rest are pure jank. There's nothing that creates any sort of "Wow" factor.
    - I love the artwork on the new Schemes. However they're not nearly as powerful as the first ones were.

All said, this collection is worth the $60 they're asking for, but just barely. I might pick up a set of the schemes off eBay if I can find them cheap. I'll also check out any price movement of a few select singles on TCGPlayer to see if there's any noticeable dips.

The next time WotC decides to do one of their Designer Searches, one of the things they should ask of applicants is to design a RG walker that doesn't cost four and will excite the player base. Obviously there's nobody currently working within that company that is capable of completing that task.

This has been AWESOME in limited. I pulled one at the prerelease and almost didn't play it because of the cost. The card basically reads 6GG: you win the game. I've taken it 3 times now in drafts and have never been disappointed. I'm very much looking forward to slamming this in my green edh decks as well. Whomever thinks this is unplayable in that format obviously has no clue.

  • posted a message on [Set (P)review] My top 20 Amonkhet cards for the cube!
When I pointed out that your cube currently runs 15 cards, that wasn't including the fetches which brings the tally up to 20-ish cards. You forgot to include Steppe Lynx, Plated Geopede, Kor Sanctifiers, Vampire Nighthawk, Kor Skyfisher, Journey to Nowhere, Into the Roil, and Vampire Lacerator. Bear in mind this is merely a list of commons/uncommons that are still in the cube. It doesn't include cards like Kazandu Blademaster which are merely "good enough" for a cube environment. Gosh I miss power creep!

    T1: Land, Steppe Lynx
T2: Land, Khalni Heart Expedition, attack for 2
T3: Land, Harrow, pop Expedition, attack for 10

I hope you're right about Amonkhet. I've all but stopped playing in normal limited environments because I find it mind numbing to durdle around with 5 mana Doom Blades

  • posted a message on [Set (P)review] My top 20 Amonkhet cards for the cube!
First, lemme point out that I really like this set. It's full of flavorful, interesting cards that I look forward to playing in various formats. That being said, cube is not one of them. Yes, Manglehorn is an auto-include over Viridian Shaman. Yes, Dread Wanderer is slightly better than any of the bazillion other options in the one-drop black creature slot. However, outside of New Nissa, nothing really jumped out at me as breaking new ground.

I'd also like to point out that Amonkhet has no business being uttered in the same sentence as OG Zendikar when talking about power level. I notice that even after 8 years, your cube is still running roughly 15 Zendikar cards. Good luck finding 15 keepers in this set. Let alone 15 that will still be seeing play a decade from now in powered cubes.

But what do I know? Most my cube knowledge comes from this very forum. It's just that this is the first time I have ever so vehemently disagreed over the power level of a set before.

I looooove this card! That said, I don't think it's the second coming of Bob, Goyf, Snapcaster, or Stoneforge. All of those cards are incredible regardless what the opponent is doing. If your opponent isn't utilizing activated abilities, Harsh Mentor is nothing more than a bear cub.
