I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. And yes this does seem to be the case with every Magic card I've seen from the last year or two that didn't come from a booster pack. The event decks just released for standard also have the same flimsy/glossy feel to them as well. I think the worst of them was the Nissa Rivane video game promos from last year. Didn't feel at all like a Magic card.
I don't think that works, Rings of Brighthearth says it copies any activated ability except mana abilities. I'm pretty sure tapping for 3c is a mana ability.
Jin-Gitaxias looks hilariously strong, singlehandedly denying all opponents the ability to have a hand (singlehandedly! dohoho.) Pumping you full of cards on top of the hand-lock seems pretty close to a 1-card win.
He makes a lousy general, but I could see him getting banned from being in a deck.
Also: I'm new here and don't feel like browsing this gigantic thread, and I'm wondering why some cards are banned. Specifically: emrakul, kokusho, yawgmoth's bargain.
Emrakul costs 15, is less terrifying, and is banned.
Ugh, do you really think those cards are comparable to jin-gitaxias?
Those cards win you the game. Jin helps you win and makes it harder for your opponent, but it doesn't win the game on its own.
Emrakul is less terrifying than Jin? Really? I'd rather be top decking against a hand full of cards staring down a 5/5 walker that dies to pretty much every removal card in the format than have a full hand of cards against a 15/15 flier that can't be targeted by just about everything and makes me sack 6 permanents each time it attacks.
As for the ban discussion I don't think Staff of Domination needs to be banned if Metalworker is also banned. Sure their are other ways to get infinite mana but there are plenty of other legals ways to win with infinite mana too.
I have lots of cards in mind for it. I just don't know whether it will play well or wind up being a pile of jank that looks good on paper but does nothing after putting it together. I think I might have to break down and actually install/use workstation to play around with the deck before I go buying more cards I don't want to play after a few games of testing.
No one seems to know about these, but they are by far my favorite EDH boxes. They're clear, so it's easy to spot different decks if you put the general facing out. I get them at my LGS for about three dollars.
Ultra Pro Acrylic Gaming Deck Box
Edit: Ultra Pro Plastic Card Box is pretty much the same thing. I call it Darksteel Plastic because the things will not break.
We actually sell those 2 piece Ultra Pro boxes at the flgs where I work for $1.00. The problem with them is that they can't hold sleeved cards. I own a few of them myself for storing heroclix character cards and I did in fact break one of them by dropping it on a carpet covered floor.
How does Black Market work for you? It seems like it would get online later when your hand is likely low or empty, and you don't seem to play many X spells. I haven't played the deck though so I can't say whether or not its good. If you're going for a recurring sac outlet/re-animator theme maybe you should include Entomb along with Buried Alive?
Pine BarrensOvergrown Tomb and Tainted Wood are lands to look at. I'd also suggest Bayou but it seems like you're trying to play this on a budget which I can totally understand. But the Pine Barrens and Tainted Wood shouldn't be more than a buck or two.
Ghostly Prison is a great choice. Also now that the price has come down on them, if you want life gain as part of your plan then replace the Serra Angels with Baneslayer Angel. You might also want to look at Peacekeeper from weatherlight, if you can find a way to protect him from removal. Lightning Greeves should do the trick.
Yeah the Hal costume is really weak. Why does it glow again?
Finally saw a full trailer for Thor last night in front of Insidious (which wasn't nearly as good as the preview led me to believe) and it looks really good. Two thumbs up for including the Destroyer armor.
I'm currently running B/W Ghost Council and I'm buying the cards I want for the Gaddock Teeg deck I'm building next. Here's a deck list for the council
I haven't read all 24 pages of this thread, but has anyone heard whether or not Wizards will be creating their own ban list with the release of their Commander decks in June? If so has it been intimated in any way whether there will be a ban list for both multiplayer and 1v1? It seems unlikely that there will be a 1v1 ban list coming form Wizards since the stated intent of the precons is for multiplayer format.

What happens when someone tucks your general with oblation/hallowed burial/condemnetc?
