I will support Ruric Thar, the Unbowed. This guy never fails to cause pain. Worst case scenario he draws an immediate kill spell and you just paid six for six damage (not great) but usually he is swinging, blocking and hitting six for several spells until he is dealt with.
I will add my support for Deathrite Shaman and request to add Ashen Rider in place of Angel of Despair. Both cards are functionally similar, but for one mana more you get to exile a permanent on etb and when dying.
What we will probably do is play a few games with the decks as is and then see if the weaker letter combos need some sort of handicap (not a golfer, am I using that correctly?). I have a feeling that my friend whose name starts with J and last name starts with S is going to school us with his Jenara deck. Thanks for the suggestions guys!
Cover of Darkness seems interesting. I was looking at Crypt Ghast. I have only ever experienced it in a mono black deck. Do you think it would work well in a tri colored deck without and shocklands or ABU duals?
Ah thank you for the guidance. I have done this already ( I would never impose on people to do my work for me ); I was just looking for some broad stroked suggestions to see if I might have missed some hidden gems. I should have put that in the original post.
My playgroup is trying something a little different; we are making a deck that can only contain cards that start with either the first letter of our first and/or last name. I have narrowed down my choices of commander to either Crosis the Purger or Vorosh the Hunter. I am looking for suggestions for cards that fall into those criteria. Please help.
Edit: I have already done a lookup for the majority of cards, but I was hoping to score on some overlooked gems that people might suggest. Just a brainstorming session.
Child of Alara lands deck. Give it a shot. Win through man land combat damage or combo (Valakut, the molten pinnacle and Prismatic Omen). Play landfall trigger spells and have fun. Then, use the Child in a pinch and your board state is superior to everyone else. Fold to Blood Moon.
Nature's Claim getting removed from this list is actually quite ridiculous.
I concur. I see this format being more and more defined by what you can do with 0-3 mana and in that vein, you can't beat a 1 mana instant targeted removal spell. Perhaps on the day they print a one mana instant "each player sacrifices an artifact or enchantment" or "exile target artifact or enchantment" then we can discuss removing Nature's Claim.
Planar Portal can fill a niche role in mono color decks that lack specific tutor types as long as said decks can reliably produce the required mana to activate the Portal and play the tutored spell. Ring of Three Wishes is actually probably better as you shouldn't really need to activate it more than 3 times anyway.
The Tome would probably be decent in an artifact deck. Every other color has better card draw.
So, I am confused; is the consensus that Defense of the Heart really doesn't belong on here, but we are going to keep it in because we don't want two really good removal spells to show up in the top 50, even though they do different things? So instead, we are going to have 2 similar tutor spells in the top 50, one that is vastly inferior? That doesn't seem the wisest of decisions to me.
I don't understand all the support for Defense of the Heart. I have never seen this work towards anyone's advantage. It always gets killed before it gets to be activated and we already have a card that does the same thing and is better.
Call to the grave is a gem and will work well with Chainer
I am not sure about foreign cards but i like the way you think. Very clever. Just in case foreign names are cool, any suggestions?
