MTG Salvation

I just don't know how I feel about this new format yet. There are so many options and lots are viable:
UW Control
UB Control
Valakut
Mono Red
Mono Black

Its a little bit mind blowing. After my two month spree working on a RUW American control deck, I am dropping back down to just UW. Its more consistent and I am in love with Phantasmal Image with Sun Titan

Besides the obvious switch there, I dumped my binder out for $170 in store credit and decided to adventure out to Mono Red with the 8 Fetches that are coming out of my RUW Control Deck.

Why is it that I want to play Mono Red? Well besides the fact that it is going to be ****ing AWESOME now, I have had a recent excursion with legacy in the past week. Friends of mine from my college invited me to attend Wednesday Legacy night and it gave me a better understanding of how a format works. I say this because before that night I was determined to brew up a standard merfolk deck and knew it would have to work. Well I figured a few things out.

1st- Legacy is a format where its ok to beat with 2/2 bears that may have a bonus from a lord because you can just sit there and counter all day long.

2nd- You can't force a deck into a format. The top decks are the top decks because they fit best. You can brew around them but you will never make the best deck out there.

3rd- Grim Lavamancer is ridiculous. My 5th match was a blowout because my opponent had two lavamancers and Mental Misstep will only take care of one.

4th- Sometimes synergy is honestly better than bombs. Not always, but sometimes.

5th- Legacy is broken as ****.



So because of my new found knowledge of how a format looks, I am looking to playing a new deck with a new mind set. I always loved Bloodghast and Vengevine. If there was ever a deck that I felt like I ripped open my soul and put it into a deck it was my BUG Vengevine Deck that I brewed up. Unfortunately, it just couldn't get there, but I love me some graveyard recursion.

So why am I going to mono red?

Those two cards are so good. SOOOO good. Like omg DAMN good. People will see soon enough that the pheonix will ruin peoples day. I will be that person with the dumb smile on his face when my opponent scoops to it. Yep, it will be me. So now I show Patrick Chapin's list that I am considering:
