You'd want to run fetches to optimize the Landfall triggers.

I assumed that most people already run around 0-3 fetches in any deck. :/

Sure, not as many as say, Boros decks, but it's enough to work with. Besides, it has to be in the grave for the trigger to be effective; it'll go into the grave a decent bit (depends on the match-up), but it's not going into the grave THAT much. Sometimes you'll be "forced" to activate a fetchland before you'd like, because you need the mana more than you do the potential of its Landfall trigger (simply because it's not gonna die as much as you'd think; most people are hesitant about killing it because of the landfall trigger; I day of judgment your board, you play a fetchland to bring back Bloodghast(s). Do you really think I'm gonna play more removal knowing full well you can get it back instantly? The fetch is staring right at me).

Fetches help Bloodghast. Yes, I agree with this, but I really don't think you'd need more than 0-3 fetches that most decks already are running. It's not like Boros, where moar fetches = HUGE damage = win (hence needing a lot of fetches to make sure it happens more often).

In Standard, playing UW Control, I doubt that's an issue unless your opponent somehow flips him off a Summoning Trap or resolves AND has mana for Quicksilver Amulet, which you shouldn't let happen.

Heh, yeah. I don't expect it to happen. Ever. lol

Hm, easier to take care of than I initially thought. Keep forgetting that it's Protection from Colored SPELLS, not Protection Colored Spells AND Abilities.

Jace, the Mind Sculptor's -1, Gideon's -2, Oblivion Ring, Journey to Nowhere, Brittle Effigy, Mindbreak Trap, Metamorph/Clone/Image, Wrath of God/Day of Judgment are enough for me to feel safe.

Obviously, if she's hardcasted/cheated in SUPER early, then I'm probably dead anyway.

Since Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite has a static effect, her ability is always on, right?

Does this mean that even if a card enters the battlefield with say, a Bloodthirst-like trigger (Ajani Pridemate, Furyborn Hellkite, etc), the -2/-2 will apply long before any of those cards' triggers activate?

I know that when Elesh Norn enters the battlefield, it's applied like this (ex: Steel Overseer can't pump itself up to avoid hitting 0 -- if he waits till Elesh Norn resolves, Vedalken Anatomist can't use its ability on Elesh), but I just wanted to make sure that it goes the other way around too (when a card is played after Elesh Norn is already on the field).

I, too, don't run Timely Reinforcements (Just can't seem to get any) and Elspeth Tirel, and I typically don't lose to Aggro. It's sorta tough though. Day of Judgment and Gideon puts in work. Smile

Honestly, it actually wasn't very coherent. But this ramble perfectly epitomizes the murky waters of live trading. One guy says this, one guy says that, a third pops in and says another...and they may all be "right". The trick isn't finding what's "right" though, but simply something that is agreeable to everyone, all while still getting value either through trading up, trading stagnant for liquid, or by gaining pure cash value. Since it would be hard to do if only one party was trying to accomplish this, let alone both, I find the whole thing exasperating.

    ^This, really.

Although I enjoy trading, and I enjoy trading for "profit," sometimes the sheer amount of work, care, and caution required in EACH trade can truly be exhausting. Sometimes I wish that I can simply just trade a card I don't want for a card I do want and leave it at that. But the back of my mind just won't let it be that easy; it's already rough dropping money on this game and keeping up with it; any way to help minimize the cost...I'd rather not pass up the opportunities.

One colorless mana is fine after turn 2-3, so why not add a nifty ability to boot?

I guess my only question is, how do they manage to fit it in along with stuff like Tectonic Edges.

Okay, so I looked at some lists, and seems like they just splashed a few extra lands (most likely Inkmoth). I usually like to play 25ish lands in control, and I see decks like Neo Caw-Blade running ~27. I guess that's how they can afford the extra colorless.

Guys, I think they made it very clear that they mean business. lol

Btw, do National Events occur everywhere all the time? Or do they bounce around from city to city each year/month? Just curious.

If you're not playing elves, I think I'd rather just use the new Garruk for CA in most decks.

    Perhaps you're right.

I was kinda hoping for a budget idea; the deck I was thinking about is kinda for casual, so I'd rather not have to try and trade/pull/buy new Garruks.

Something seems very wrong about this. 4 Grave Titan, 4 Wurmcoil, and 4 Surgical Extraction MD. What am I missing here? The more I look at it, the more I see alot of removal, and a way to nerf Kut. Only 24 lands....

    I don't get it.

On a side note, this deck from the same tournament is hilarious...only 1 5 drop creature though: http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/deck.asp?deck_id=879353

Wow...those are horrible. Lmao I love the UW Highlander singleton list. At first I thought maybe it was some random Commander tournament. Had to count up the deck just to make sure.

Haha. "mana screwed in the first game? No problem bro. Imma side in 1 extra swamp g2"

    ^Duh Winning.

What I find most interesting is that these are SCG Qualifiers and not small-time FNM's or whatnot. Man, I guess Magic not only caters to everyone but to everywhere as well. Haha this made my day.

It really has gotten that popular, huh...

Yeah, I noticed that a lot of lists tonight were running them, even in stuff like UW control. Makes me kinda regret trading off all of those Inkmoth Nexus's (including a foil one :/).

I used to run 3 in my UW Control list, but recently I took out all 3 for 2 Spellskites and 1 Oblivion Ring. Spellskites and O-Ring have definitely proven their worth far more times tonight than I can count.

I used to be a big fan of Spreading Seas, but lately they really have been lackluster (even before M12 was released). It was nice to screw them out of colors and the cantrip made it oh-so-tempting, but when it really comes down to it, it really doesn't do as much I as would want it to do. Still good in the sideboard if you can manage it.

    Quote from blurryheel
I personally think the card is even with evil presence in a U/B control deck seeing as the deck already plays the best cantrip in the game, so why not play the mana-kill card that's the cheapest?

What is the best cantrip that U/B plays?

What kind of deck would be able to take advantage of this? I mean, 30 creatures, sure. But what exactly would these creatures be? I can only think of Elves. Asking because I'm thinking of putting together a fun deck with this.
