im new in duel commander and pick a Wafo-tapa control-like narset, but there are no many lists and tournament reports with Narset, so i cant choose a right deck list.

how competetive duel narset is? especialy a control variant? is it need a manarocks?

Most people do it all wrong.
Your goal should be to spend the first 6/7 turns with hyper efficient counter spells and draw spells for example Mana Leak and Treasure Cruise (and many many more). Along with some choice removal/field wipes.
You spend the first part of the game keeping the board clear and drawing cards. Then come turn 6 if you feel safe, cast Narset. if you don't feel safe, don't cast her and build up mana for counter spells. If you Make it to 6 mana, and they stop doing things in anticipation of mass removal, or keeping mana for a counter spell, then it's your game, you gain much more then them in a game where nobody does anything.

Then once you get narset into play you make sure the path is cleared thanks to your previous counter spells, and strong removal spells like Path, you then swing, and aim to drop Planeswalker cards, time walks, and draw spells. Planeswalkers will win you the game.

When you put a lot of counters in the deck, won't it clog in your Narset's ability to cast something more relevant? Or do you have something to ensure that does not happen, especially since you think that Proteus Staff is a win more card?

Now that with the loss of primeval titan; do you think Urborg and Cabal Coffers still have its merit?

If yes, do you often use your tutor to find these land pieces instead of just going for the pure combo?

I missed out on Rav the first time during my 10 year absence from the game and didn't realize the guilds had leaders and champions. So, my question is: wasn't Savra, Queen of the Golgari the guild leader of the Golgari, what with being queen and all that?

The book mentioned that it should be Savra, but Sisters of Stone Death took the throne. Eventually, Savra used the power of the first guild leader (Svorthir or something, can't remember) to re-take the throne.

For Azorius, Augustin IV is the guild leader. But heaven knows why other than Rakdos, the guild leaders in the Dissension set (Vig & Augustin) got only one mana of each color instead of two.

    EDIT:
Almost forgot what's the thread about ... I think it's a tied up between Augustin, Vig and Niv. But I always have a soft spot for Ghost Council due to its elegant design. If I have to choose, I guess I'll go with Vig. The ability to do stuffs that IMO on par with Survival of the Fittest is powerful, and it's on the strongest color in Commander as well.

u-579: I remembered in the old viperesque thread, there's quite a discussion regarding the Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Since I didn't see it in your list, what do you think of the card itself? Is it just another win-more? Or the exclusion is due to the hate magnet effect similar to Doubling Season?

Allow me to hijack this thread for a while, since the question is still related to the question.

Let's say we have a three players.

A has Rafiq as a commander and has dealt 14 damage to C.
B then steals A's Rafiq and deals 8 damage to C

Does C lose to general damage? Or C is now have 14 Rafiq Commander Damage from A and 8 Rafiq Commander Damage from B?

Sparksmith is no good stay away from that creep

It shines in some matchup though ... especially UG Madness. But if your meta doesn't have a lot of these deck, I agree to stay away from him.

In Legacy, Goblin Goon is usually:

    1. He doesn't provide anything by himself. And he is also a situational attacker and blocker although he have a big body, which makes him also ...

    2. A bad topdeck

    3. He doesn't make any game breaking effect. Cards like Goblin King and Goblin Pyromancer in the deck (that don't provide anything by themself) can perform a sudden alpha strike to an unready opponent.

    4. It slows down the deck if you run more than 1. However, if you run only one, I never think any situation that I want a goon when I fetch something with matron.

Yah, I think that's why Smile

    I ... am ... speechless.

Well, some of you people maybe don't care ... it's free anyway, maybe it's just gonna stuck in your trade folder or in the garbage bin ...

But after 14 hours of lectures about environmental study, this things makes me wanna cry ... more trees cut down just to make them, filling up the trash and maybe even makes more pollution burning them --; ...

Alright, maybe I study too much in the past 6 hours, but I feel kinda like to chime this one in ... I mean, even "any kind of stupid promo as bad as a textless chimney imp or one with nothing" will be more appreciated rather than this waste slot.

From all of the variant, I can see some methods to use in the sideboard:

    1. Aggro plan
Godo plan is included in here IMO. Also packing some more fatties like more Ink Eyes, more Kokusho, and maybe some Keiga ...

    2. Honden Plan
Using the blue and black honden. I can see the purpose that you want to gain more card while your opponent lose more cards, which create a massive card advantage in your side

    3. Control plan
It's either packing more discards or more creature control. Nezumi Shortfang comes to mind for the first one and all those eradicate, hero's demise, etc etc for the later one.

I wonder, which one do you think is the best sideboarding plan. Personally I like the combination of 1 and 3, but I think it will depends on the metagame as well.

But I'm not really sure about this:

    1. KNorth
For some reason, I have seen less and less build using KNorth. I begin to wonder why? I was pretty sure that KNorth was a powerhouse by itself, a 5cc creature with a build in pseudo evasion (trample) and bulletproof as well.

Is it because of the triple green so he is rejected now? Is it because his bulletproof-ness is no longer an issue because Kagemaro is still able to throw him to the graveyard?

    2. Double Dragon
Recently, I found Keiga and Ryusei is begin to show up in some gift sideboards. First time I saw them, I was thinking about the conjunction usage with Footsteps of the Goryo. I mean, acting like Kagemaro no. 5 and grab the rest who is harder to kill (jitted creature / Patron Kitsune comes to mind) is kinda cute. They also have an evasion in form of flying, and the manacost is more mana friendly compared to the KNorth.

That's what I thought when I saw them actually. Is my assumption correct about them? If yes, are the footstep + dragon plan comes in handy in matches (and improving the matches)? Does this method work well?

Feel free to tell me your opinions Smile

  • posted a message on Solidarity... Discussion or something to that effect
Anyone able to help me on the origins of the name? Its not particularly clever or cool so I wonder why its not simple called High Tide still.

I forgot who, when, and how exactly ... but the creator for this deck plays draft after / before building this deck ... and he won an almost impossible game because of a "bad" card which is solidarity. Thus, that's where the name originally comes from ...

Alright, I found the original post:

    Quoted SpatulaOfTheAges at the source:

About the time that Solidarity was developed, 5-6/04 or so - Dave(Deep6er, the guy who came up with the idea) and I were both hanging out at the Lucky Frog(our gaming store), and I entered an 8-man 8th Edition Draft. In the finals I play against a W/B deck with my W/u weenie draft, and game 1 while I'm winning he talks about siding in his 2 Nauseas and wrecking my team. Not figuring out an answer MD or from the cards I remember I drafted, I look through my SB, and of course cards like Redeem, Samite Healer, and Healing Salve won't do anything against Nausea...then I see a lone last pick Solidarity(3W Instant - Creatures you control get +0/+5 until end of turn). The Solidarity comes in and is in the opening grip; I eventually get into a winning position, with lethal damage coming in next turn, he flips over his top card, and reveals a Nausea, to which he appears infinitely delighted(at the time it would have given him 6 for 1 card advantage or so)...in response to the Nausea, I Solidarity.

Dave and I proceed to dance around, high-fiving each other and singing "Solidarity". And thus, Solidarity.

    Agreed, it's because it's blue.

    Gift:
    1. When you cast it, almost always the loop recursion followed shortly after; which guaranteed if not already lock your opponent while giving you the momentum to win the game.

    2. At worse, it strips 4 cards from your library. A deep thinning card for 4 mana

    3. Instant speed

    Meloku The Clouded Mirror:
    1. A bomb ... I guess we all know what's happen when you manage to untap with him in your side.

    2. If casted from a tendo ice bridge, he himself has the ability to re-freeze the tendo, which granted you not to lose any blue mana for playing gift.

I have tested the deck several times by now, and so far I'm impressed by its performance. But note that I haven't looked at any saviors cards to be used in the deck.

I have to agree that being a non-arcane spell. Stir the grave sometimes becomes a little bit problematic to me, so I will try Nickthemiser's idea about Footsteps of the goryo or Death Denied.

I don't know if pitching needle is a problematic issue, maybe packing more artifact removal like wear away might be provided helpful for the deck.

And last, but not least. I usually have problem with Kamigawa White Weenie deck. Most of the time I can handle everything, but if they have Samurai of the pale Curtain online backup with Jitte and blessed breath (which can be easily gained on turn 2 - 5), usually I have no choice but to go with the aggro mode. Unfortunately, in that situation, approximately 4 out of 5 times I ended up losing.

Is there any ideas to overcome this?

  • posted a message on End of turn
When someone said "at the end of your turn", is it actually just before the end turn or just after the end turn?

The question comes from this experience I have:
I have a myr enforcer in play, while my opponent have 2 untapped vulshok sorcerer. And then he does the following:

-. At the end of you turn, tap 2 sorcerer to deal 2 damage to enforcer
-. Untap, at the beginning of my upkeep, I tap both again to deal another 2 damage, sending it to graveyard.

He stated that response end turn is in between my end turn and before his untap step, thus the damage does not go to the cleanup phase. Is he correct? And if he deals damage after his draw phase or at his main / combat phase, will he still able to kill my 4/4?

    Thanks in advance Smile

    Mmm, 3 questions:

    1. In any circumstances ... have you ever miss the 4th witness?

    2. Does solemn simulacrum involved in your winning against some decks? Especially against Ponza? I mean: RoboJens has been considered not necessary after STE jumps in when CHK rotates in ... but has he become STE 5 & 6?

    3. Maybe it's a secret tech, random stuffs pulled in a hurry, or stays there to confuse people :p ... but is there any matches when Orochi Hatchery in the sideboard helpful?
