    cheers.

The only way to win these things is to be lucky and good.

I am currently playing cards that try to get the most possible out of the other cards being played with. And card not labelled Sliver is an 'other'. The 4-6 I have played in non-Sliver slots were there to deal with what happens after all the Slivers are dead. Atheros performs the exact same function, but he can only do it if he is first, and if enough Slivers have made it through. Both of these seem like breakers to me.

I first had to take gods seriously when Thasa was beating me to death on turn 4.
(weird on turn 2, weird on turn 4 = beatdown)
The strongest bit about her is the 5/5 indestructible. For 2U , which is way cheaper and easier than Hivelord.
A god just being an enchantment just aint enough, especially when the manabase is so focussed on getting him, and the Sliver Hive doesn't work on him, and drawing him after a Verdict does nothing.

Using cards, but not using their complete abilities annoys me. Using a god and not using the enormous indestructible creature attached just seems poor form.

Especially when I am trying to maximise Sliver Hive, and Slivers.
The other successful usages of gods all activate the big bad at some point. But not yours. I think that is why I am so sceptical.

    And, consider this. I get
    1x(Sliver hive/ManaC) 2xOther Land + 4 slivers = bliss

    Simple = bliss

Think about how much more complex your equation is.

Of course Radiant Fountain is going to suck ass for you. You need all the coloured mana you can get.

For your Yay! solution you need multiple coloured mana sources, and Sliver Hives are a bonus. And on turn 3 they have taken maybe 6 tops, if you got lucky with a predator. Atheros then looks there and goes...Yeah! ... Now what? as they ignore him, and do not kill your creatures.

There are SO many bad draws for you that just do not exist in my landscape. Like 3xHives, 4x Non-Hives is Bliss. For me, but not for you. I need far less coloured mana, and i am faster for it.

I have focussed more and more on what the deck does, and how to make it faster, and more reliable. Fountains are a luxury, its true, but, ah.....The look on a simple red players face is awesome.

Gods rely on devotion to a single colour. Or two colours. Slivers is the opposite of that on a philosophical level. Slivers have a tiny piece of colour imbedded in empty. They worship the queens and the Hivelords, not the gods of Theros. The cards come from the base sets. Very few of mine come from Theros at all.

I thought about gods & Slivers some pages back...

I think it is awesome that someone else has done well with Slivers out of nowhere. Smile

I think it a bizzarre mix, but I thought the same of the various other incarnations that have popped up on this thread.

The obvious standouts being the Chord of Calling style, and the Hivelords, but there have been some remarkably interesting and odd meatball style posts in this.

    :]

Hey wow. I am playing 16 non basic set cards.

Mana Confluence and Temple of Plenty in base deck. 5 in total.

And Temple of Plenty is looking dodgy...

Part of the reason I like this deck is the way it plays completely unique cards.
Cards no one else ever plays.
And win with them, mostly. Smile

    Life without Lifebane Zombie!
    And no more Supreme Verdict.

    And no more Slivers.... Frown
But, I think I have learnt a bit.
I think Khans will very little effect on deck selection. I just dont see them being constructed ready.
Theros seems way more powerful. Sure the fetch lands are welcome, but, triple mana'd creatures are tricky. Good thing there is no manlands. Frown Frown

Think I might get a couple more theros powercards, now that they have caused me enough trouble, I think I can cobble together a halfway happy G/w/r powerstuff deck. There is no non basic hate yet.

    Blinding Light
    Elspeth, SunG

    Elf
    Sylvan Carytid
    Courser of Kruphix
    Boon Satyr
    Polukranos, WE
    Arbor Collossus

    Stormbreath Dragon

    All Temples of Scrye 1

These are the cards I have learnt are outrageously strong, and I think are still in the format.

Cards like Nissa & Chandra look convincing, and Goblin Rabblemaster seems obvious.
Not sure what the good cheap burn / removal is likely to be.

Magma Spray - Yeah, OK. Morph and stuff
Spark Jolt - just dont seem quite strong enuff.

MAGMA JET ! - Now there is a card. Kill Morph and Scrye seems pretty damn good.

    Chandra - maybe
    Nissa - I think So.

The landbase is looking pretty dull and mana focussed.
Fated Conflgration seems strong, but 1RRR is very heavy on the red. So maybe not.

Fated Intervention is possibly a stronger choice if I am so heavily into green anyway.

All of the new 3 colour charms just seem a bit expensive. Maybe countermagic is the way to go. hmmmmm
    Sylvan Caryatid is way strong.
Rattle claw is hmmmm. dunno.versatile. but fragile

Mistcutter Hydra is back to being a starter
Xenagos is a starter too, I spoze.

Fleecemane Lion - Big, Solid WG =3/3 + Smile
I mean compare it to the straight green version...
Swordwise Centaur GG = 3/2 nuthin.
    Fleecemane is strong.
My point being that Swordwise Centaur is good enuff to win lots of games, but Fleecemane is just stronger.

Savage Knuckleblade seems good at GBR = 4/4 + 3 useful big mana abilities.
All triple mana monsters seem fine, but ya know. Just dorks really.

Trap essence look difficult, and pretty good when you pull it off.

Trap Essence GBR - Instant - Counter target creature spell. Put two +1/+1 counters on up to one target creature.

Hmmm. Now that looks like a way to beef up a Carytid.

Peregrination seems an interesting way to get to 6 mana. might work.

errrgh Thoughtseize is still in the format.
Nothing else that is a minor commitment to Black seems appealing.

    Pain Seer? - maybe

Rakshasa Deathdealer is a maybe at best

    Tymaret?

    Hero's Downfall?
Drown in Sorrow? (or Anger of the Gods)
    Nightmarish end?
    Read the Bones?
    Bitter Revelation?

Butcher of the Horde - looks interesting...

Gild 3B - Sorcery - Exile target creature. Put a colorless artifact token named Gold onto the battlefield. It has "Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool."

    Gild looks very interesting...
So does Silence the Believers, instant seems good.
Utter End looks mostly better than both, if white is OK...
Murderous Cut may well be OK.
Duneblast seems a little expensive, and not quite right for a creature heavy experience.
Dead Drop may well make the grade too, weiird as it may seem.

Reaper of Wilds - Yeah, Strong.
    Siege Rhino - Hmmm
    Underworld Cerberus - Hmmm
Zurgo Helmsmasher - Wow. That guy is angry, and going sideways in a hurry. And Indestructible. And 2RWB for a 7/2 haste ...OMG !
But are they better than a simple Polukranos?
Polukranos is just good. and that spit and grow ability is always a party favourite.
Combined with a Devotion Temple, Mr P can just win games.

The straight green devotion deck with Nylea has a certain appeal. Nessian game warden is way cool. But that would mean going purest green, and there just doesn't seem to be much really good pure green. Frown
See the Unwritten looks like it might be power.
Nessian game warden off the See the Unwritten is cute too. wonder if it is good enuff. Probably not. Fun tho.

Nythox, Shrine to Nyx sure stands out in the power curve...
Every other land is a cookie cutter.
    It's ridiculous.
Tap for coloured mana, gain or lose a life, comes into play tapped. That explains all other land. well. except Tomb, and that dont do nuthin useful.

Surrack Dragonclaw seems pretty good. 2GBR seems cheap for a 6/6 with 4 useful abilities.

Revel of the Fallen God may well have a moment of glory. 7 cost for 8 damage now, plus 4 x 2/2's has some sway.

Chained to the Rocks is a good reason to start playing fetch lands. I so wanted Peak eruption to be a great sideboard card, but it just aint.

Last breath is just too situational for me to like it.

    Reprisal seem interesting.
Spirit of the labyrinth is just not enuff beats in the pure white department and the Loyal pegasus and Soldier of the Pantheon just dont have the back up squad required to get the job done. Not in pure white anyway.

Mantis Rider seems like a good dork.

Lightning strike is looking pretty good at this point.

XX End Hostilities 3WW - Sorcery - Destroy all creatures and all permanents attached to creatures. xXX
Good to know one of the defining cards of the format.

Ajani, Mentor of Heroes just doesn't do it for me.

Hythonia the Cruel is Hilarious, but not useful...

    Maybe Chromanticore?

    2x Elspeth
    4x Blinding Light

    2x Xenagos
    3-4x Polukranos
    4x Elven Mystic

    4x Temple of Abandon
    4x Temple of Triumph

    Probables
    4x Goblin Rabblemaster
    4x Mistcutter Hydra
    4x Magma Jet
    3-4x Courser ofK
    4x Fleecemane Lion
    0-4x Stormbreath Dragon

    Possibles
    0x Radiant Fountain Frown

    Sideboard?
    0-4 xReprisals

    Possibles, Possibles, possibles.

    So.
Where does all that leave me?
    Lets get greedy.

    4x Stormbreath Dragon
    2x Chandra
    4x Goblin Rabblemaster
    2x Lightning strike
    4x Magma Jet

    2x Xenagos

    4x Arbor Colossus
    4x Polukranos
    4x Mistcutter Hydra
    4x Courser of K
    4x Boon Satyr
    4x Sylvan Carytid
    4x Elven Mystic

    4x Fleecemane Lion

    2x Elspeth
    4x Blinding Light

    56 ok, a little heavy
Need to cut it back to about 36, so drop 20.
    I can live with that.
Nice to have excess cards of real quality without even having to look at the new cards at all.

    4x Temple of Abandon
    4x Temple of Triumph
    3x Mana Confluence
    4x Red/Green Fetch <Check>
    4x White/Green Fetch <Check>
    2x Forest
    2x Mountain
    2x Plains
25 land. pretty sharp, and boringly even. Possibly go down 1 or 2 depending on othe mana generators.
Above deck does not really use HUGE amounts of mana anyway. 4 then 5 then 6 seems good.

    Sideboard?
    4x Reprisals
    2x Lightning strike

Shrine to Nyx is so ridiculously more powerful than anything else in the lands available.
Pure Green (with white Smile ) looks good.

Massive Polukranos and Mistcutter action !

    And elspeth....
    3x Stormbreath Dragon
    1x Chandra
    3x Goblin Rabblemaster
    3x Magma Jet
    1x ..New red X (+2 if big)..

    2x Xenagos

    1x Arbor Colossus
    3x Polukranos
    3x Courser of K
    1x Boon Satyr
    2x Sylvan Carytid
    4x Elven Mystic

    3x Fleecemane Lion

    2x Elspeth
    4x Blinding Light

    3x Temple of Abandon
    4x Temple of Triumph
    3x Mana Confluence
    4x Red/Green Fetch <Check>
    4x White/Green Fetch <Check>
    2x Forest
    2x Mountain
    2x Plains

    Sideboard?
    0-4x Reprisals
    0-4x Lightning strike
    0-3x Arbor Colossus
    4x Mistcutter Hydra

    I like it.

    hmm.
Had a bit of a thought...

    4x Claws NewRedX+2
    4x Mistcutter Hydra

    4x Arbor Colossus
    2x Xenagos
    3x Polukranos

    4x Courser of K
    4x Boon Satyr
    3x Sylvan Carytid
3x RattleClaw MorphDude 1G Tap for Mana
    4x Elven Mystic
    35
    4x Temple of Abandon
    3x Mana Confluence
    4x Red/Green Fetch <Check>
    9x Forest
    1x Mountain
    4x Nyx, Temple of Silly
    25

    1x Nylea is tempting

    Yep.
This looks like a way to go....
Turn 4 collossus, Turn 5 Claws off the Nyx = about ?..?/?um.
    R3 mana, pay 2 tap nyx +5+ish mana , R +6 +2 for big creature take 8 direct damage?
    or size 6 Mistcutter.
Add a second Temple of Nyx placement for +3
The above is assuming 2 creatures then an Arbor colossus, all of which survives, which is reasonable. It is assuming a whole turn of interference / problems.
Those numbers get better if I can just find a one cost green creature I like. But elven mystic is hard to equal.
And a successful turn 3 Xenagos means ... um .. Plus a creature. Plus another. Plus + 5 Mana. so it at out limit I think I can squint at ..16 direct damage
Ah, plus Xenagos would count for Nyx twice, so +2..18 direct damage ?
    on turn 5, i think.
    wow.

    Forest + Elf
    Nyx + Boon Satyr
    Fetch(mountain) + Polukranos
    Forest + Arbor Colossus
    Nyx + Claw = .....
    hmmm

R2-2+8-2+8(+2damage)=16 damage.. I think on turn 5. hmmmm.
    that seems good.

10 cards, double nyx is special.
Voyaging satyr almost seems worthy. Tap to add 6 off the Nyx seems OK.

It would be nice if there was something good for GG or GGG or GGG1
Hmmm. Although... need to find another G creature that fits. Nope.Checked. They All suck.

    I do like it. wow.
    Crater's Claws RX - Sorcery

Crater's Claws deals X damage to target creature or player.

Ferocious — Crater's Claws deals X plus 2 damage to that creature or player instead if you control a creature with power 4 or greater.

Yes, red/green and green/white fetchlands have been reprinted.

Feed the Clan 1G - Instant

    You gain 5 life.

Ferocious — You gain 10 life instead if you control a creature with power 4 or greater.

    Hydra Broodmaster 4GG - Creature — Hydra (7/7)

XXG : Monstrosity X. (If this creature isn't monstrous, put X +1/+1 counters on it and it becomes monstrous.)

When Hydra Broodmaster becomes monstrous, put X X/X green Hydra creature tokens onto the battlefield.

hmmmmm Now there is a winin a box as well.
    Dont need to go off...

    courser K $17

    Goblin Rabblemaster $12

    Shrine to Nyx $17

    Craters Claws $2

    Rattleclaw $7

I think I have most of the rest
    Not sure about a couple.

    4x17 + 3x12 + 4x$17 +4x$2 +4x$7 = 68 + 36 + 68 + 8 + 28 = $208 in transfer fees. Ow.

Maybe I can trade for a little.
    Maybe not.

I think I can make the non X-BlAST deck at the moment, but the BLAST deck looks way more fun...

Spam. 5 posts in a row. And seemingly talking about a different deck in some cases. Please stay on topic. -DarkRitual

'Atheros does exactly the same in my deck'
    Really?
When does Atheros block and kill Polukranos?

Thasa becomes an indestrucible beat stick, Thasa has some other minor abilities.
Atheros becomes nothing, Atheros has some other minor abilities.

The strongest part of Thasa is entirely missing from your god.

The whole point of Slivers is that each helps more.
    So.
Play with as many as ya ccan. Smile

40 seems about as many as I can Jam in.

    Predator & Steel & Manaweft & Hive & Venom & Battle & Bone & Blur & Striking & Gale & yadda yadda yadda.
They all get better with more Slivers, so, I figure, go for it. Play 40.
So many Easy plays, Hive, then +1, +2, +3.
    Tough stuff.
Sometimes manaweft gets confusing. Oh well.

It works against everything, well, sigh. not SV & LBZ, but ya get that.

Even then, it can sneak thru, on occasion. And getting better.
It is why I dont trust the god version. If turn 3 is setting up the god, turn 4 is never a win. nor turn 5 really. and the mana and the thoughtseize and theb... wah!

This is as pure as Slivers gets Smile

    The deck I just played.....

The Bit that made Boros charm even worse was that he Thoughtseized me and took a fast sliver, a sentinel, I think, and then he knew I could not cast the boros charm on his Planeswalkers because of mana problems. Frown
I love the mana now. It is so easy, most of the time.
Striking SLivers are good. I am happy to play them.
Sometimes I sideboard them out, but not often.
Against red I am sidebording out two galeriders. Smile

The deck I might be able to play one more time....

Maybe the Temple of Plenty should be Shockland just because they are the only slow land in the entire deck.
I have really swung around on those. In a smaller format, I know I am going to enjoy playing lots of them. But not in this deck. Sprint kill time.
It thumps things, really hard, From above, and quickly, in a blur.

The deck is really tough. It fights. Stuff like Anger of the gods and Bile Blight can have problems. Drown in Sorrow too. But Verdict on turn 4.... Frown
And only having Slivers makes mana smooth. So Smooooooooth.
They cast Jace, I cast Battle Sliver, Win .... happens. But really?

My current idea for after the Verdict is Mistcutters.
I asked some players what the best response is to a Verdict, and their responce was a Stormbreath Dragon, or 'Hasty' Creatures. Hmmmm. Misty's are just like stormbreath, but slightly different. Not double red for a start.
Protection from white, and Flying is lovely, so is protection from Blue and uncounterable. Hmmmm

This deck brings the beats, and it is on a good low curve with single coloured mana costs. The mana can tap out using the creatures to make more Slivers.
It is a beatdown double-strike Pump Army. I am actually kinda proud of it.
    It slams down the win.
FORTY SLIVERS IN A DECK !

I stuffed up a couple of other times too.
    Bile blight got two mutavaults.
And I let them die even though they were 3/4's beacuase of a predator and a steelform.
A judge pointed this out and put them back on the field.
After blockers, so, he cast Golgari charm for (-1/-1) and killed his own Carytid as well... Smile
Then I have a Predator and a steelform. Sweet.

Battle on turn 4/5 for a turn 5 Flying Double-Strike kill is a dream.
    Gain some life.
    (3+2)x2 + (2+2)x2+ (2+2)x2 + (2+2)x2 + (1+2)x2 = Battle, Bone, Blur, Sentinel, Gale
    =10 + 8+ 8 + 8 + 6
    = 40

Go ahead and gain some life from some whip....

    ....

LBZ & Verdict are the problems I can't solve.
Boros Charm is a fail against Verdict.
I think Atheros is a big fail against a red charge.
Leeching and Venom are just a bit ordinary in defence.
Steelform is Awesome against red. Obelisk of Urd is unplayable against red.
Steel is also good against sweepers and Green creatures.
    Sure, Steel does get benched.

Miz Mortars on overload from a manaweft was awesome.

Banishing Light is strong. Having trouble convincing myself to play it basedeck.

3 wins and a loss at the local Wednesday night tournament.

    Smile

    Lost to Supreme Verdict.

    I tried Boros charm.
    It failed again.
    miserably.
Just to hard to cast, and I am fairly Strong across those two colours.

I went back to trying out 2xBattle Slivers, 3xBlur, 2xVenom, No off colour nothing that cant be cast by a Sliver Hive, or 1xMana Confluence. Very few slow lands. And yay. it was sweet on me.

Except where I was dumb and played a matching pair instead of a mix, and so both sentinels got Detention sphered. D'oh. Venom were bad, again.
Diffusion were better. Playing more untapped blue sources helps a lot for getting them out on turn two.

You do realise we are playing the same deck, right?
There are about 40 cards the same, and a couple of changed by your 'god' thang.

I have read over your reports, avidly.
I find them fascinating. Thumbs up.

I think the god thang is holding you up.

    You mention Atheros, 10 times.

    Round 1 - game 1 Did Nothing
    Round 1 - game 2 Banished
    Round 2 - game 2 Sided out - Draw
Round 3 - game 2 Atheros won THIS GAME !
Round 4 - game 1 Probably won it.
    Round 6 - game 1 Atheros for 6 or 9
    Round 6 - game 2 Atheros fails
    Round 7 - game 1 Atheros outclassed
Round 7 - game 2 Atheros banished, then outclassed.

Seven of the Ten are negative.
And yet you did very well.
The Slivers you play are awesome.
The Slivers are powering your results, not the god.

Also.. Shock lands are worse than pain lands, for us anyways. A Shockland only becomes better after it has been tapped for coloured mana 3 times. And often that just doesn't happen. Sure it can come into play tapped, but that is actually a pretty sucky play. A back up at best. And if all your coloured mana is coming from the hive or a mana confluence, pain lands only seem to tap for colourless anyways, so... Why bother with shocklands?

I spoze my problem with your solution is a turn 3 detention sphere or a turn 3 Banishing light.....

And then a turn 4 Supreme Verdict.
    Seems kinda hopefull against red

And no idea how you manage to get wb1 reliably on turn 3.

Thoughtseize is going to be better against you than me.
Drawing two gods is going to suck as well.

    And only two Mutavaults...?
The 4th Manaweft seems a must.

And , Well, How do you survive the hordes of little red men?
Drown in sorrow does not like Steelform.

Striking Sliver is often the better lead, especially if going defence.

Oh my, does my head throb. It is not the easiest of decks.
Works though. And Fun. Actually quite fun.

    I was playing 'other' cards.
And doing fine unless Supreme verdict decided to go off, again.

All decks were properly made and piloted pretty well.

I kept 2 hands I should have mulliganed and lost because of it. Oh well. One land temple with sweet everything....nope.
Dont keep 7 cards with a temple. Got it?

I played hard against the big boys.
I pulled even playing rogue. Smile
    I've done worse.

    And, awhhhhhh.... exhale.
    So much death.
They killed so many of my creatures.
    They all fall down.
This process of building the legion and having it being torn down by the forces of bad is a very visceral thing. I started to care about the hive. All of this hatred. And not a lot of creativity. Slivers felt like building to something. And the wins were heroic often.

I got killed to the card the turn before Blur+ Galerider on top of deck = win.
But I took the next two games. He was mostly White/Green .Stupid RG Bloodrush gives trample too. The Hive worked. The diffusion guys got mis-understood, But still just werent quite... My, What a lot of flying damage this deck can do ! Ka- Pow.

Steelforms were great against Red. Sentinels are great in that too. Lead with the Sentinel. Only then play the Predator. Being Greedy is grenerally good too. Opening with a Striking , Then cast a Manaweft, then Tap the Striking cost to cast a Galerider. ....Predator Bonescythe win lots or Turn 3 Elspeth.
    Pop.
Mizzium Mortars overload sucked a bit too.
But I beat that in the last round with wave two.
Ya want Predators and Bonesythe at the end. Mutavaults need to be valued. Big and able to hurt.

    Yay beat red.
Changes were cool, and really got in his face. But my deck worked. I did get lucky too, and he did not. Gather courage was good. Zero Mana NO! to Red is ace , especially from nowhere. It is fun to be attacking into a group of crap red men. With flying, or vigilance, or something. Smile

    4 wins - 4 losses . . . . . see if you can see a pattern.

Round 1 Game 1, turn 4 Supreme Verdict

I lost to Jund Walkers in round 7, but I think it was because I had lost the will to fight.
I got over it and beat Jund walkers round 8.

I had mana and colour issues in a way I just didn't think happened to the deck, but it really didn't matter, I spoze.
The Radiant pools did help against Red in round 4, but I had multiple games where I did not see the right coloured mana and the game ended without it. I Templed off colour Slivers a few times. I got flooded Once.

I think I should add a r/g land, or two. Xena had a couple of Problems. (I switched out a Triumph for a Plenty, but I still saw 4 of my 6 r/w lands in the first game of the day.)
I talked with an old buddy about how many Verdicts were going to be played today. I thought about 1 in 15 decks. He thought much more.

    My sideboard was good.
