Deck is a simple Bant good stuff list. I wanted to try a list w/o Gideon do the fact I really don't want him competing with Tamiyo as the premier 4 drop of the deck and gearhulk over avacyn because I don't have an easy way to flip her and run enough creatures to take advantage of gearhulk's ability.
Most importantly I want to play something I haven't played with before.
I like having access to green for advocate as a road block against aggressive strategies and as a late game threat. Again, the oath's are likely getting cut for glimmers. I may very well end up on jeskai but for now I want to see how this does. Also green gives us access to Sigarda which is an important card to have against emrakul.
I won't go into my choices as they all should be self-explanatory but I will say I am strongly considering cutting the Oaths for Glimmer of Genius as they are likely better and fit the overall plan better.
With the previous list, I ended up 4-2-1 for the day for 22nd place out of 101 players.
Not going to give a detailed tournament report, except to say that both losses were to the same deck, both were 0-2 losses, and man oh man do we need to start taking aristocrats seriously as a threat. One of these opponents went on to make top 8, and the other narrowly missed top 8 at 9th place. My friend who was also on abzan also had his only two losses of the day to aristocrats.
I agree. I played that deck in a league today on modo and got crushed. That and Eldrazi Ramp. It literally feels impossible to deal with either of these decks.
After seeing that Brad got top 4 in a MOCS that was posted on tcgplayer, I've decided to cut the heirs for knights. He was running bant but the strategy should remain the same.
During and after Game Day I felt Avatar just wasn't cutting it and wanted another 2 drop that could actually have an effect on the game and Heir fits the bill. Just having deathtouch gives me another way to deal with red's early creatures and it's a little easier on the mana.
As for the board, I just need to have a better board plan against jeskai to have any hope of beating it. My changes should help that.
I don't play modern and would be looking to trade it for a legacy card or two that I need.
