Why does Vannifar care about colorless creatures? And since when is she known to disguise stuff? Nothing about her card makes sense. I wonder if her card got swapped with another late in development and they really wanted to have her in because she's a character in the story.
Best excuse I could think of is previous morph mechanics tend to fall in the blue/green colors more and, much like you mentioned, they just had to slap it on a preexisting U/G character.
At the very least this can be used as a cheat stuff, Eldrazi, artifact, or morph commander so it's not pigeonholed into just one role.
Having previews for a Secret Lair feels very wrong. Depending on the reprints I wouldn't mind getting this if it wasn't $150+ and more were made than enough to be bought out by 4 whales.
Oh, you know what I just realized? They're doing secret lair original cards with the time lord creature type, so they will be printing in universe versions and therefore creating the first equivalent creature type.
not sure how they do "Time lord" in the mtg universe but thanks to MKM with the "Detective" type becoming official in magic I can see "Doctor", "Scientist" and "Inquisitor" possible now.
and "Alien" the space set coming in 2025 is inevitable of making "Alien" type official in magic the gathering.
Time Lord doesn't exactly need an exact MTG creature type. They could easily make 15 as a starfish or gremlin as the Time Lord lords will not be getting UW versions. If WotC changes their mind on this, which won't be any time soon as this new UB Reserved List will mean more money later, they can worry about what the Time Lord type will translate to when that happens.
The art on the Malcolm SL is so bad. Why is every single art in MTG featuring real people look so sub par? The Tasigur version is especially not good.
My guess is if it looked too good/realistic, they would have to pay Jeff Goldblum.
I'm sure they had to pay him anyway, only way to get around that would be to not show the character's face, like they did with the Doctor. It's another reason why UB is a little annoying, where you can just not show the character and somehow still have them on a card.
Those snow-covered lands look great. Too bad you don't get a stack of each so you can actually use them.
20 for $30 would be a good deal, I think, either picking 20 of one basic or 4 of each. At least then you could blink out an EDH deck with one rather easily, unless you run strictly 37 basics.
I don't understand who buys the basic SLs, they are the worst deal and have been since SL's inception.
This seems alright and more likely to pull from your graveyard rather than others as I don't know how many legendary lands/artifacts many play to take advantage of. What is a shame is that there isn't a polygon version of this as that's the most famous version of Lara, that would have been rather neat.
With that said I can only roll my eyes at a third UB in a row with Dr. Who just before, Jurassic Park during, and this after and with LotR having warped Modern really hard and people's wallets with a massive golden ticket campaign being that set's only selling point is that I'm just tired. I'm tired of the constant push of UB.
MaRo's been mentioning that the name change makes it a little bit easier to do as one-offs, in sets like Modern Horizons.
Weird how now it was the name that stopped them from doing it when they kept going on about how they just didn't like Tribal as a supertype and how it was difficult to determine what should be a Tribal card.
I do have to wonder why they're changing Tribal if they keep saying that they'll never use it again. This would be like updating World enchantments (another type I'm surprised they haven't brought back).
