Ebony Fly etb tapped so I definitely prefer Mind Stone.

Jul 8, 2021My changes:Posted in: Pauper & Peasant Discussion
Cast Down -> Power Word Kill
Forsake the Worldly -> Dawnbringer Cleric
River Hoopoe -> Gretchen Titchwillow
Zephyr Boots -> Bag of Holding
Orzhov Advokist -> Priest of Ancient Lore
Also ordering but not planning on adding now:
Jul 5, 2021I agree that the Warlock Class is close to being cubeable but I don't think "and you gain 1 life" would have been enough.Posted in: Pauper & Peasant Discussion
If the level 1 abilty was: "Whenever a creature dies during your turn, each opponent loses 1 life." it would certainly be good enough but seeing the other uncommon class cards that probably deemed that too strong.
Jul 3, 2021If you're supporting U/x tempo Soulknife Spy is a upgrade for Stealer of Secrets.Posted in: Pauper & Peasant Discussion
I really want to support Gruul midrange/ramp. They problem is that red ramp targets seem so mediocre compared to greens. Still, I just really want to cast big dragons.Quote from user-23643864 »I'm going to play Red Dragon . This is a strictly better Volcanic Dragon.
I'm trying to develop a little bit out of green my midrange/ramp decks, specially the gruul section with some more monsters.
This dragon is fine, but I'm also running Rite of the Raging Storm, Charging Monstrosaur and Frenzied Saddlebrute.
For the cost of 2U you could also just play Mirror Image instead of Trickster's Talisman. The only advantage the equipment has is that you can pay 2 and U in separate turns but you have to go to al lot more trouble to get your copy.Quote from FunkyDragon »Trickster's Talisman is interesting, but I fear it may be too cute. For as many times as you'll equip to a Pelakka Wurm and punch through with trample, you'll have far more times of it being on a ground creature with no way to get through. It is pretty great with flyers that offer additional value, like Frost Trickster or Mulldrifter, and it works well with some other evasive creatures like Shriekmaw. I might give it a try. Low floor, but pretty high ceiling.

Don't forget that is makes other discard effects better as well. Not only Looters and the standard draw and discard spells but also cycle cards and the odd cards like Psychatog and Forbid.Quote from Poster formerly known as Phitt77 »Bag of Holding sure looks interesting, but I have a hard time imagining how I can spend 3 mana for a loot effect and then 2 mana each time I want it again. This seems really slow and clunky even for a control deck. If the loot ability activation would cost 1 less I would play it, but the way it is I don't think I will try it.
Jul 2, 2021It doesn't trigger at all.Posted in: Pauper & Peasant Discussion
You cast Redcap with a treasure and it enters as a 3/3 (2/2 plus +1/+1 counter). Deals 3 damage. Then is dies, it didn't have a -1/-1 counter so it comes back as a 1/1 (2/2 with -1/-1 counter) and deals one damage. If it dies again it is dead as it has a -1/-1 counter. Kalain does not interact at all (except for dealing more damage when you cast it from your hand).
Jul 2, 2021Cards I haven't see discussed so far:Posted in: Pauper & Peasant Discussion
I think this is another piece for the W/R equip deck. I f this is a deck in your cube this seems solid.
Deathpriest of Myrkul
If you want a second Liliana's Devotee in a larger cube this might be solid enough. It is more expensive but the ability cost is cheaper and it pumps all your existing Zombies and Vampires (and Skeletons). It doesn't make the cut for me at 360 and probably shouldn't make it at 450 either but in a 540 cube I can see it being reasonable.
Kalain, Reclusive Painter
Could B/R aristocrat with a treasure subtheme be a thing? Mayhem Devil triggers on treasures and cards like Pitiless Plunderer and Shambling Ghast fit the theme.
Bag of Holding (downshift)
This gives looting to colors which normally don't have access to it. It also makes other looter/rummage effects stronger. I played with it in a regular low powered cube and liked it a lot. It has the same type of choices as Shrine of Burning Rage and Shrine of Loyal Legions: Do I sac it now or do something else to try and get more value risking my opponents artifact removal. I like that risk/reward type play this card offers.
Jun 30, 2021I run Bala Ged Recovery and Sejiri Shelter. I have at some point tested Jwari Disruption and Malakir Rebirth. I love the flexibility of reactionary Zendikar MDFCs. These are effects that are sometimes dead in your hand in the early game but can be played as land and don't use a card slot in your deck. Some thoughts on the cards I tested or still play:Posted in: Pauper & Peasant Discussion
Bala Ged Recovery: Great. Think I'll sooner cut Regrowth than this.
Sejiri Shelter: I like this more than Shelter as Shelter can't cycle without a creature on your side of the board.
Jwari Disruption: I think this card is good enough for my cube but I prefer Censor which is stronger and fills a similar role.
Malakir Rebirth: I cut this for something but it is still on my "maybe list". I am just looking for something to cut to put it back in.
Jun 23, 2021ArBoR4817 posted a message on [[Peasant]] The Peasant Cube Discussion Thread (C/U/)Posted in: Pauper & Peasant DiscussionQuote from Kahboom0225 »Any suggestion on the two best gold cards for Selesnya signpost for +1/+1 Counters.
Also need suggestions on the best gold cards for Dimir signpost for graveyard/recursion/reanimator.
For Selesnya, I would suggest Good-Fortune Unicorn, Arcus Acolyte and/or Conclave Mentor depending on what you want. Unicorn is the strongest cube card of those since it fits in more decks, but because of that it might get picked up by a player who isn't playing +1/+1 counters (this can be a good or a bad thing depending on your design philosophy). I think Conclave Mentor is the strongest in terms of synergy (although I might be wrong, haven't tested Acolyte) but it does nothing on it's own.
For Dimir I would play Psychatog and Obsessive Stitcher.

Literally none of those cards will work with Herd Baloth except Good-Fortune Unicorn/Juniper Order Ranger. They use static replacement abilities, while the Baloth is a triggered ability. And I’m not sure that jumping through the hoop of playing two 5-mana cards in a specific sequence just to put a bunch of vanilla fat on the table is worth it. Which leaves only Good Fortune Unicorn as an enabler.
They do work with Baloth.
121.6. Some spells and abilities refer to counters being put on an object. This refers to putting counters on that object while it’s on the battlefield and also to an object that’s given counters as it enters the battlefield.
Jun 8, 2021Had two online drafts with the new Modern Horizon cards I've added. Some thoughts:Posted in: Pauper & Peasant Discussion
One thing I didn't realize is another plus of this card is that it is affected by Intangible Virtue. It saw play in a Boros "go wide" deck with lots of tokens, Intangible Virtue and Prava of the Steel Legion.
Great counterspell. Nothing to add.
Saw play in an aristocrats deck. Was pretty good. One thing to note is that explore sometimes gives you a land while you wanted a +1/+1 counter and vice versa and you don't know before hand. One player sacced a Reassembling Skeleton three times and didn't get the counter he needed to block profitable.
Saw play in a reanimator deck. Good role filler.
Archfiend of Sorrows
This card is soo much better then I thought. It saw play in a Grixis control deck and later in a golgari graveyard/ramp deck. In both cases it was amazing. Hard casting is really possible for these decks and the unearth can always attack favorably; all smaller fliers and reach dudes are dead and the bigger ones are now small making blocking really bad.
Didn't see play.
Say play in a Grixis control deck and a Gwr ramp deck (where it was even kicked 4 times). The RR seems restricted for aggro decks , but it didn't saw play in those. Asking the drafters, a Rakdos aggro player didn't see the card in the draft and the Boros "go wide" player did see it but picked something more relevant for his deck (didn't remember what).
Fast // Furious
I think I like this more than Slice and Dice, but not by much. The "cycle" is more relevant on a board without X/1 dudes and it's better in topdeck mode. The main mode is also one mana less which can make a big difference. However, not hitting fliers did come up. I removed Volcanic Torrent for this card and that seems like the right decision.
Saw play in a GU ramp deck and a Gwr ramp deck. Both times it was very good. The main mode is obviously Treasures, but the option for food is not irrelevant. In a long draw out match the Gwr player could not find an answer for the opponent's Jetting Glasskite but was able to out heal it by saccing three or four Food tokens and finally killing it by Firebolt + Flametongue Kavu.
Saw play in GU ramp and a golgari graveyard/ramp deck. In both cases it was vey good. The Eternalize is very relevant in longer matches and in one match it was hard to attack into it, knowing that by blocking and letting it die my opponent could bring back his Victimize from his graveyard and reanimating a Pellaka Wurm and another 5-6 drop (can't remember).
Ornithopter of Paradise
Saw play in Grixis control. Was solid, but was bolted directly at least once and also was killed by a Reclamation Sage. I like how this is color fixing outside green but it comes with the drawback of being both a creature and an artifact.
Jun 2, 2021Adding:Posted in: Pauper & Peasant Discussion
Barbed Spike - A 2/1 flier for 1W with upside. What more to say.
Lose Focus - Lose Focus seems like a really good counterspell.
Legion Vanguard - A new tool for the aristocrat deck.]
Vile Entomber - Testing in place of Mindwrack Harpy, which was more of a shotgun instead of a sniper rifle.
Archfiend of Sorrows - Solid reanimate target while also being good in Golgari regardless.
Blazing Rootwalla - Seems better than some other option I am running in the red one drops.
Flametongue Yearling - Enough has been said about this card.
Fast // Furious - Volcanic Torrent was nice but this fits better in archtypes I am running.
Tireless Provisioner - As I said; I think Provisioner is quite strong but I guess I'll find out while testing. Smile
Timeless Witness - I like this. It's worse then Eternal Witness for sure but Archaeomancer is also a decent card and this is much better.
Ornithopter of Paradise - Good colorless ramp and fixing.
+1/+1 counter cards (I am not adding this support now but might in the future):
Ordering a copy but not sure whether to add:
Glorious Enforcer I think I prefer Feudkiller's Verdict, but I might be convinced otherwise.
Cabal Initiate - Maybe for the reanimate deck?
Sinister Starfish - Comparing this to Merfolk Looter make this seems bad even but it is in a different color.
Young Necromancer - Still feel this might be good enough, but I couldn't find a spot. If the recently added Dread Return doesn't work out I'll try her.
Dragon's Rage Channeller - I looked at the last 4 Izzet spell matter decks I drafted and they all had around 17 lands, 8-10 creatures, 5-8 sorceries, 6-9 instants and 0-1 planeswalkers. I don't think this will become a threat too often and if so I like Burning Prophet more and I am not even running that.
Revolutionist - This might be decent in Izzet spell matter decks. Those decks usually have 3 or 4 discards in the form of Looters or draw and discard spells.
Flourishing Strike - This seems decent but probably too low power if there is no flier on the opponent's side to warrant inclusion.
Ravenous Squirrel - This is not what my Golgari section is looking for but this might change in the future.
Prophetic Titan - I like the design of the card so I am ordering a copy. Will probably stay in the binder forever unless Izzet Gaint tribal ever becomes a real thing.
Goblin Anarchomancer - I first compared this to Goblin Electromancer but this is much better. Electromancer usually discount around half of your deck but Anarchomancer discounts everything. Still I only have two guild lots and this isn't that good.
