have you seen the color hosers for ninth? they are all uncommon, and looks like blue and red got the best ones.. here they are

    White:

    CoP: Red
    CoP: Black

    Blue:

    Baleful Stare
    Withering Gaze

    Black:

    Execute
    Slay

    Red:

    Boiling Seas
    Flashfires

    Green:

    Anaconda
    River Bear

all those cards are going to be uncommon, as always the color hosers are. I'm still thinking what were they thinking, as the blue and red ones are the best ever, and the other ones just plain suck (except maybe for CoP:red, but in 8e we got both the circle plus sanctimony). what do you think?

no hosers such as karma and sanctimony?? maybe the cops have the hoser job for this set (so that is why there are only red/black ones) and paladin en-vec as a rare hoser... strange, but cool anyway

Ratzo: that's why i'm running 2 persecutes and also 2 mind sludges md. if the persecutes became somehow worhtless (5cc for example) then the sludge do the work.

maybe I should add 1-2 extraplanar lens MD for consume spirit/hardcast shoal? I think that it'll be funny those times when you kill a colossus by hardcasting a shoal...

I think you should try to get the matrixes, as they are very, very necessary on games 2-3 against a lot of decks (it shuts down melokus, trolls, any random equipment, its very useful), but if you really can't get 'em go for the needles, they are spot hosers but excelent as well.

as for mikokoro, maybe you should drop it for shizo, death's storehouse or miren, the moaning well. the main idea of mbc is to kill their guys, discard their hand and go for the win with anything that you might have left (kokusho, consume spirit, etc.). with no creatures, and no hand, they cant foil your strat, right? so that is why mikokoro is so bad.

here is my latest list for mbc:

    lands (20)

    17x swamp
    1x miren, the moaning well
    1x shizo, death's storehouse
    1x boseiju, who shelters all

    creatures (7)

    3x kokusho, the evening star
    4x solemn simulacrum

    other spells (33)

    3x chrome mox
    4x talisman of indulgence
    2x persecute
    2x mind sludge
    3x sickening shoal
    3x hideous laughter
    3x barter in blood
    2x night of soul's betrayal
    3x phyrexian arena
    3x death cloud
    3x consume spirit
    2x genju of the fens

    sideboard (15):

    3x damping matrix
    3x cranial extraction
    2x persecute
    2x mind sludge
    1x boseiju, who shelters all
    4x horobi's whisper

I think all you guys playing mbc should give genju of the fens a try. it grows more powerful over time, and can win games on itself after a cloud. it also helps to hold out ground weenies as early as turn 2/3. i'm still testing it, but I like what I see.

deathsorcerer: I've just decided not to use nekrataal to keep the creatures' mana costs between 2-3 (for vial purposes, it's hard to have one vial set on 2, other on 3 and yet another on 4, but only one at 2 or 3 should be enough with my version) but it is a great creature to consider anyway (perhaps dropping the 3 terrors over 3 nekrataal?? maybe i'll test that.

why don't you guys try aether vial? using it, the rats look like a nice choice (you can spend your mana with shortfang, and still play your creatures through vial), and you can also use skull collector + ravenous/chittering + aether vial to prevent your oponent from using anything that isn't a instant. that looks like a good plan to me. take a look at my "new" approach:

    lands (20):

    1x shizo, death's storehouse
    1x tomb of urami
    18x swamp

    other spells (16):

    4x aether vial
3x terror (or dark banishing, horobi's whisper or any other spot removal)
    3x umezawa's jitte
3x sword of fire and ice
    3x o-naginata

    creatures (24):

    4x hand of cruelty
    4x nezumi shortfang
    4x ravenous rats
    4x chittering rats
    4x skull collector
    4x wicked akuba

    creatures (7):

    3 kokusho, the evening star
    4x solemn simulacrum

    other spells (33):

    4x chrome mox
    4x talisman of indulgence
    4x terror
    3x hideous laughter
    3x consume spirit

    thanks in advance

    @Fayul

I don't see the point of using Cloudchaser eagle? is it because it flies? so what, i'd rather have a non-flier with the same p/t and that costs 3 instead of 4, wouldn't you agree?

here is the g/w list i've been tinkering with to play post-rotation, and its doing great for now:

    lands (25):

    4x secluded stepe
    4x tranquil thicket
    4x windswept heath
    2x nantuko monastery
    6x plains
    5x forest

    creatures (12):

    4x eternal witness
    2x exalted angel
    2x eternal dragon
    4x sakura-tribe elder

    other spells (23):

    4x astral slide
    4x renewed faith
    2x sterling grove
    2x decree of justice
    4x wrath of god
    3x living wish
    2x akroma's vengeance
    2x gilded light

    sideboard (15):

    1x viridian shaman
    1x nikko-onna
    1x kataki, war's wage
    1x battlefield scrounger
    1x true believer
    1x phantom centaur
    1x spellbane centaur
    3x moment's peace
    3x krosan reclamation
    2x rule of law

the sideboard is a little clunky for now, as I have no ways to predict what the metagame will be, but it has wish answers for enchantments and artifacts (both of which are recurring with slide), some surprise for affinity, and some random stuff. I think that the reclamations might make it as I do not remember of any graveyard hate in white/green other than this. moment's peace are for those times when only wrath / vengeance just arent enough. finally, rule of law is there for some combo deck that might appear, such as desire.

have you seen today's (5/31) Card of the Day at magicthegathering.com?
    I'll reproduce the text here:

    Agonizing Memories
Weatherlight uncommon. Inspired by Painful Memories from Mirage, this card was named by the simple question "what's worse than ‘painful’?" No comment yet on whether you can expect to see "Excruciating Memories" in a future set.

I think that they are doing it just like they did with Grinning Demon, which was "sneaked" up on some ask wizards question about demons. I also think that the card might be something like this:

    Excruciating Memories - 3BBB
Sorcery - Rare (since the other two are common and uncommon)

Look at target player’s hand and choose three cards from it. Put them on top of that player’s library in any order.

    what do you guys think?

you guys are forgetting a small detail: the land subtypes auto matically allow them to generate colored mana, thus, any land with the subtype "forest" can tap for green mana, any land with "plains" subtype can tap for white mana, and so on. I think that those new "duals" should be something like this:

    New Dual W/G

    BASIC land - [no subtype]

T: add 1 to your mana pool
As long as you control a forest, ~this~ is a plains in addition to its land types
As long as you control a plains, ~this~ is a forest in addition to its land types.

so it's a new basic land (thus is tutorable by sakura tribe elder, rampant growth, kodamas' reach, etc.) but has no basic subtypes, thus is unfetchable. It is still very powerful, but not as powerful as a original dual, since it requires company of a basic land of the appropriate type. it also needs only that you control one of the types to generate mana of the other type, so it also solves mana issues

what do you think of my version for new duals?

i do not agree with you, armlx. Just take a look at perish and then compost. you kill all my green creatures, and I draw ONE (only one) card. try to imagine mono-black vs. mono green in this analysis.

you see, the thing is, bereavement hoses the green player by making them discard everytime they lose a creature. Well, green is all about creatures, and black excels at creature destruction so with a second turn bereavement followed by some mass weenie removal (hideous laughter for example) will kill all the green players' birds, elves, sakuras, etc. and rip his hand away from him. I think that is a powerful hoser, but nothing like perish. As other users have said, wrath of god is more expensive and affects all creatures, so yes, maybe bereavement is too powerful, but I do not see anything else to be in the base set (and no, perish is not an option in my opinion)

[edit]: I agree with you in one thing: chill is prolly not coming back (so I'll change my earlier post later with a new blue hoser for red), but it's not because is too powerful, but because of a color pie redistribution. it seems like white has got the "pay X more to play" and tapping out permanents. they are sort of shifting into white the mana denial aspect of the game (see ghostly prision for example) so maybe chill will return in the future as a WHITE hoser for red (and maybe costing 3)... what do you think of that?

I don't see Gloom, Perish and/or Convert coming back. they are extremely powerful as uncommons except maybe for gloom (remember, each color gets two hosers for its enemy colors at uncommons in the base set).

I would like the hosers to be those:

Red: flashfires/boil (in 8e these two were just fine)
Green: compost/choke (spreading algae was never an option)
Blue: chill/hibernation (if red has something as boil, chill is just fair for blue)
White: Karma/Warmth (Warmth would put white's hoser for red in the same level of flashfires)
Black: Bereavement/Yawgmoth's Edict (the 7e hosers are fine for me, not very powerful nor weak)
