  • posted a message on Priceless Treasures in ZEN packs!!! (confirmed!)
I remember when ppl used to comment "magic will end the moment they start selling power cards again". Is this the moment? they're obviously not reprinting it, but no matter how you cut it, the way I get this is "OMG Wizards put a Black Lotus on a pack! and Ancestral Recall" am I the only one thinking it's a very bad idea aimed at making ppl buy more packs because the set itself can't quite sell itself? I mean, buying ZEN is something, buying ZEN with that "chance at a Mox Jet" is something else entirely.

I don't mean to be a Nancy negative here; I am absolutely thrilled at the idea of randomly opening a product that I was going to buy anyway and find that there's a nice surprise there. But what worries me is the fact that they're putting those cards there in the first place. Again, it feels like the set can't sell itself so they need to give some "extra" incentive. It's the same way I felt when I learned they were reprinting Lightning Bolt, only worse. It's like the game isnt interesting anymore, like the only thing that can make ppl buy it are the "once too powerful" cards that don't exist anymore.

I feel like the game is showing itself as something that "used to be cool". like "buy packs and you might see how cool/imbalanced this game once was, but right now, you see the "balanced" crap that it's there". Am I the only one with that impression? More important, am I the only one that sees that as a bad thing? I haven't read through the whole thread, but most of the posts seem to be from ppl who are overjoyed at this. Am I missing something? Just being stupid? Missing the point somehow?

Maybe i'm just getting old and ranty.

EDIT: On a sidenote, how about worldwide releases? Do they get "priceless treasures" too? Can I expect to get some of that (if I manage to be that lucky) on localized cards? or just the English versions? It's certainly affects my decision about what ZEN product i'll buy (Portuguese translated or English)

Incorrect. The first Child of Alara trigger to resolve will destroy the Monument, thus taking away the source of the indestructibility. When the second trigger resolves, the creatures are no longer indestructible.

as they say a lot (or used to when I still was somewhat active on these forums) RTFC is mad tech. I was under the impression that child only destroyed creatures, not permanents. you're right, everything dies. Smile

If I happen to Warp World into 2x Ob Nixilis and some lands, do they both trigger off each land or do they both go to the graveyard and neither trigger?

Also, If I warp world into 2x Child of Alara, AND an Eldrazi Monument, do I lose all my creatures or just Child of Alara?

I think this would be better posted on the rulings forum. But as far as I know, things that enter the battlefield with Warp World all enter the battlefield at the exact same time, meaning that everything triggers at the same time and you choose the order of the triggers (ofc respecting the "active player puts his abilities first, nonactive after" rule).

So regarding Ob Nixilis, the only thing you need to know is whether or not the other player will lose the life regardless of him being in play or not. I mean they'll enter the battlefield and trigger their abilities, and then die due to state-based effects (assuming I remember it correctly). Now the only question is "will the other guy lose life due to this ability even though the creature that triggered it is no longer in play?". I dont know that answer, though.

as for the child of alara question, by the time they hit the graveyard your creatures are already indestructible, so they're safe.

    hope that helps!

    I disagree.
The question would be- is the enemy playing green or white? If yes, is this game 2? If yes, then I would never play him on turn 2. There are MANY 2 mana options so far for black that I would play instead.
    Sign in Blood
    Child of Night
    Black Knight
    Bloodghast
    Doom Blade

I would rather play a Vampire Lacerator on t2 or a Duress than the Gatekeeper. If he were really the only option and there were no enemy creatures, then maybe, only if I was sure they had no pro-black to deal with.

Actually reading the post is mad tech, as they say: attention to the bolded parts.

I don't think the decision will be that hard most of the time. It'll boil down to asking: do they have a guy? if yes, and I have 3 mana, I kick it every time. if they dont have a guy, well then I dont need to kick it. Is it right to play it right away on turn 2? again, if they have no guys, and if I dont have another 2-drop, the answer will be invariably yes. its an interesting card that can reward the players who know when to hold it back and when not to. I like it a lot.

of course anyone will play another 2-drop instead of him if they can. Thing is, when you can't, you really want to play him (assuming the opponent has no dorks out) because you want to be aggressive, and that means playing your creatures, not saving them for another turn in the hopes that they will be fully useful by then. Also, if he is the ONLY way you're gonna use to deal with pro-black creatures (meaning that either you absolutely need to have him ready to try and kill the Stag, or you cant kill stag at all) then you might as well redesign your deck. A suggestion: Fleshbag Marauder, while not a vampire, can deal with stag just as well. and it grows the new card that gives you black mana based on the creatures on your graveyard.

Nice. I like that they are giving new kicker abilities to creatures and not just rehashing the old ones from Invasion block.

However, you will have to make a decision about whether to drop this guy on t2 or t3 for the kicker. We'll have to wait to see the rest of the cards and possibly even Worldwake, but I will be surprised if we see alot of gating tricks.

dunno you guys, the flavor for being a vampire is dead on but...

    The art....
    The expression....

It totally should be "Creature - Necromonger"

Of course then we'll need a "Riddick, Badarse mofo" with protection from necromongers.

I Lol'd. it looks so much like a necromonger that it's not even funny.

I like that this guy can kill himself to put a 5/5 token, but unfortunately it'll probably be just another unplayable junk mythic. The flavor is just awesome tho.

If Blinding Beam, which is a superior card, couldn't be used in white constructed decks during Mirrodin, I can't see how Sleep can possibly be playable in constructed.

you answered your question yourself. mirrodin block only had space for one archetype (affinity). Until it got banned, it was pretty pointless to play any other aggro deck (ofc during ONS/MIR you could also play gobling bidding but) and after it was banned cards like blinding beam were long forgotten.

I agree with that sentiment. However, for right now, control players will have to endure the three months of good conditional counters. Like I have said and will continue to say, right now, control is still viable, but not dominant. If the meta shifts to nearly all agro decks, I will start to play remove soul main. If zendikar does not bring a good, unconditional, 2 mana counter, I will join you in saying the meta is flawed and that control is dead.
    My ideal counter
    nu-Counterspell UU
as an aditional cost to play ~ pay 2 life
    Counter target spell

yes, it's worse than counterspell, but it gets the job done, espicially since with Duress comming back and no more pains, control players need some ways to hurt themselves. The life loss might be fine as part of the resolution, like TS, but this is ok too.

I would hate to see that counterspell. Mainly because it's at most an UB card as opposed to mono-U. When will people realize that paying resources (life, creatures, lands and so on) to save mana is black's domain (and red when it comes down to generate fast mana)? cards that let you exchange life for speed are black. trying to make a blue one is just what blue's been doing for the past 13 years: getting other colors' strenghts and using it as if it were its own. and we certainly don't need that. A "fair" hard counterspell (counter it, no questions asked) DO exist, at a price tag of 1UU. It sucks, but until they decide it's fair again to price it at UU (you never know, ppl never expected to see Lightning Bolt back so), it's what we're going to get.

I agree that blue got the short end of the stick in m10, but hey, there are some pretty amazing cards. I for one already am a fan of the three wishes djinn, and I believe that we can't hold judgment until the full set is spoiled.

Hmmm, that's right, I forgot it saw a timshifted reprint... well, I could mostly recreate it as an extended legal deck, sans Hymn to Tourach and Feast of the Unicorn (but no one uses creature enchantments anymore anyway), but everything else is still pretty much there. It would stink in all likelihood, but I could do it is the point. Fun :D.

Well let me point you to Wrench Mind. Yeah yeah, not quite Hymn to Tourach but what else can you hope of today's extended? as for Feast of the Unicorn you really want to use some Umezawa's Jittes instead. Would it be a top deck? no, not at all. but I bet it would be at least fun. Consider this (extended legal) deck:

Hardly effective or competitive, but sure is fun. At least it has the "1995/1996" vibe going for it. Grin

Black Knight was pivotal in my old tourney winning MBA deck, so there will always be a soft spot in my heat for Blackie, and a MB Aggro-Disruption deck could very well be on the horizon depending on what else comes out in M10, and later in Zendikar.

Now, if they brought back Bad Moon, I would wet myself. Not going to happen, though.

you can always look for extended for that; after all bad moon was a TS reprint, wasnt it? :p

I like the idea of bringing black knight back. I loved it back then, and I hope he gets played. I'm just sad that they left the badass flavor text of the original out of the reprint (damn you reminder text!)

Here's a list I have been working on MWS to mild success:

I have also tried Spitebellows, Nevermakers, Blightning, and Broken Ambitions.

Mana is still being worked. If I get mulldrifter evoked on 3 I flood, if no drifter shows up I sometimes get stuck with CU or Sedris in hand and 5 mana.

Sideboard is mostly against agro but the swerves are something I am testing for RDW mostly and the extra incendiary's give more pyro's and more land denial which has been awesome against some 3-5 color mana bases. Sometimes I take Flame Javelins instead for PW's mostly.

One weird problem, is this deck versus the current meta seems to make for long games...

Untapping with Sedris is usually game though, especially if Fulminators are relevant. Unless some crazy threat is out on the other side I have found Fulmi's then Mulldrifters, then Shriekmaw's to be the order I unearth in.

this looks very interesting, i'll give it a try. is sedris really worth it with so few creatures? maybe he could be more interesting with a few more guys (idk about you but I really like Murderous Redcap for example. I'll try it and let you guys know.

I havent read all the thread (not in the mood right now) and I know its a silly and common mistake to post things already posted due to not reading, but one thing I think they haven't done yet is a set where all cards are gold. not sure even if it CAN be done (or if it is such a good idea, specially after Legions turned out to be so bad), but this is a speculation forum anyways Smile

    Your point being?

my point being "having a banned card in standard is a lot worse than having a banned card in block, or in other words, cards that have been banned in standard are a lot more dangerous than cards that just happened to be banned in block to prevent a single deck imbalance (like that rebel legend girl)"

I agree with you on one thing tho - shocklands are hardly broken, but artifact lands are almost "unprintable" broken (can you imagine them now in alara as part of the esper shard?)

I like fetches a lot, especially the fact that they reduce the odds of drawing additional lands during the game (there's nothing worse than getting a land when you really needed to topdeck a single burn spell to finish off your tapped out opponent sitting at 1 life...)

Why are people saying shock lands are more broken then artifact lands? They banned them in block for a reason.

As for what is coming in 11th I can't say, but MaRo said he wants shock lands in the core set.

actually the artifact lands were banned in STANDARD which is a whole lot worse than being banned in block. That being said, I am hoping for fetchlands for 11th.
