the idea is just to get some heavy hitters out while eliminating opposing creatures, and ideally getting Army ants and crucible of worlds out. Non-ideally, these cards still function effectively (army ants for land hate, crucible to make up for ruinous minotaur's ability/ get back fetchlands
Brawn is useless here when you have wonder. Cut for some more beef.
it is just a fill in card atm.
BTW- i might actually be able to fit vengevine in (4 free from awesome buddies), makes me happy.
Also @ forget you. vengevine can be awesome-summoned like that it is true, but i can also be summoned in a more "normal" way (IE discard it, and wait for a two creature cast turn, which comes faster because i will add waterfront bouncer to bounce itself if vengvine goes in)
also i am finding quiet analysis+ dig all 3 roar of the wurm to be very very effective, just a note.
also, reluctant to buy dual lands or things like misty rainforest, so its actually getting quite hard to cast counterspell, replacing it with rune snag which i just think is a cool card...
also i think crucible of worlds would be pretty interesting, will test it later.
hmmm personally i prefer the coutnerspell/manaleak/runesnag route because
A: i just dont like putting cards back in my hand :[
and
B: it usually feels a lot safer against my friends not to put lands outa the field or slow down the aggro tempo.
but i can see what you are saying with the daze
also i know its more flexible if i discard it, but i just cant get deep analysis to feel "worth it" to me :/, i mean 3 life and 2 mana seems to be too much for 2 cards, but i have a nagging feeling that some time i am going to have all mana and no cards in my hand and have full life.... ill playtest more to see.
very much so, now that i think of it, this is a sort of aggro draw deck. without even realizing it, i was actually discarding counterspells and things in an effort to get the winning combo while on MWS :]
also, frantic search seems like it is actually quick when i manage to get more than one (has happened twice).
will certainly keep that in mind, gonna try to get it more draw and less counter now...
I'm in the process of putting together a casual U/G Madness deck myself. I wasn't playing too much Magic when the Odyssey block came out so I failed to collect alot of the staple cards for it so I'm finding them here and there at card shops (I don't buy cards online for personal reasons).
One thing I haven't quite understood is Vengevine - I understand it works great w/ Survivial and the Fauna Shaman as a discard outlet, but how often are you getting to put it onto the battlefield from the GY? I mean, UG Madness isn't a creature-heavy deck and I don't know how many turns you're putting 2+ creatures on the battlefield to get the Vine out there in play.
hmm, it seemed like a nice combo with basking rootwala especially.
optimally Turn 2, cast wild mongrel, activate ability twice, discard vengevine, discard basking rootwalaa, play rootwalaa, play vengevine.
non-optimally, i discard vengevine as soon as a i get it, and then wait for a chance to play two low costed creatures, or a creature and rootwala by discard engines.
I would suggest running Deep Analysis as you can discard it if you need to, if not you can get 4 cards out of it (Which is nice).
Also, you need Daze. This will hold out your opponent until you can get a discard engine up for your Circular Logic.
If you can, don't undervalue Wonder. Getting a 6/6 out on turn 4 makes most people sad in casual. Making him a flyer just adds to that.
Not to disagree with rchrhds, but I have found more use with Careful Study than Frantic Search because when I have 3 lands out I don't really ever find myself needing a way to discard cards (I generally have a Wild Mongrel or Aquamoeba out) If I turn 1 Careful Study I can normally get a Basking Rootwalla out and then maybe a Roar of the Wurms into the graveyard. Then I can still Daze if they try and play a Pithing Needle or some other card I don't like.
Why daze? from what i see it is a counter blue card (not many ah those in my play group :[), and mana leak is directly better. :/ (the only time i would rather return an island to my hand then pay 2 mana is when i have 1 mana, and if i have one mana only... i dont want to slow down a turn that early...)
You may be right about the frantic search though, i am sort of used to it being awesome in the control deck (my former favorite deck), but i might not really need mana so much as cards in this deck.
obstinate baloth is only if you discard it from an opponent controlled effect :/, and if this goes up against a deck with a lot of discard well... muahaha anyway
also, doesnt quiet speculation only work on cards with flashback? (i mean id still use it for roar and whatnot but..)
thought control decks were supposed to run 26 lands? i certainly wouldnt like to be stuck on 2 or 1 land when my opponents start casting low costed creatures out..
sad face :[, nevermind then, lets move this thread over to casual casual!
also, i thought itd be neat to tap, discard/draw (or one of various creature abilities), discard the circular logic, then play it for 1 blue, but i could also see how i wouldnt have as many cards in my graveyard now that i think of it...
inserted three crystal balls, took out an essence scatter+ both mana leaks (should i have done it differently)?
about the fun- palinchron has always been cool to me (one of my first "uber" (hey it seemed like it then!) cards), but this is starting to look like itll only be fun the first 3 times or so before everyone starts to "meh" and winning that way isnt fun anymore/no one will play it, no variation you know?
So two main worry i have about this deck is not being able to get palinchron and high tide in my hand, what should i drop/ what draw cards/possibly search cards should i get?
Also, i mostly play with my friends/club for fun, so perhaps this wouldnt be very "fun" to play, as its basically "try to counterspell till you get instacombo and win", dun really know :/
I dropped vengevine (49 bucks a pop, ouch), any dual lands besides simic, and survival of the fittest for similar reasons.
I dropped circular logic for counterspell, i am not quite sure of this choice, but i feel like even though i could force a CL discard and cast it for 1, CS works at any point in the game, and is unpayable for only 1 more, and i dont have to activate a discard.
I feel like i have too many cards that discard things, and not enough that take advantage of it, i am thinking that taking advantage cards should be in majority, because discard cards are at least half repeatable things... looking up stuff, added brawn instead of waterfront bouncer for now.
Added 3 quiet speculation ive spent quite some time looking up flashback cards, and i think ill just end up using them to send all 3 roar of the wurms to the graveyard.
also, i dont suppose there is a black/red way to tutor my crucible or anything :/
also, goblin guide or jackal pup?
