What happened to Risen Executioner? Went from $1.75 to nearly $7 overnight.

It's probably the new zombie that was revealed at some event. Saw it in the rumor mill.

Do we get ANY Modern staple reprint in the BFZ block?
    No, nothing!!!!

Old Zendikar has so many Modern staples as good reprint candidates. But BFZ gives us nothing regarding the reprint.
What does it mean? It means WOTC care Standard much more than Modern now, and reprint is not their primary goal in the new sets.

Read the post above yours. It says it all. Recap for you, Modern doesn't pay the bills, Standard/Drafting do. If you don't really need to buy new product how does the company make money?

Modern prices is an issue that should be addressed. Ignoring it would hardly ever be a good idea.

Actually, higher modern prices while they get Standard back to normal is probably good for WoTC. WoTC doesn't want players to migrate to Modern to quickly. They want players who are tried of Standard to move to Modern, not players to move to Modern because it is cheaper. They are looking at trying to extend the time players play MTG not to move them to lower profit formats quicker.

leaks can hurt sales but they act as if it was the main reason. If a set is bad/weak it's probably a stronger reason for a failure.

So acting as if leakers are more to be blamed than them is too easy.

Let's say an average set is 100.
    A weak set is -20.
    A leaked set is -10.

So a weak set is 80.
A leaked weak set is 70.

It doesn't matter that being weak hurt sales. The leak also hurt sales. Even if they admit it was a weak set (which they can't really) it's not relevant. Leaks hurt sales.

    Where is your proof?

Why do you say a leaked set is negative? A leak is both positive and negative. If the set is awesome people will save up extra money to buy more boxes. The problem for WoTC is a leak has a greater impact on weak sets vs positive sets as people will keep buying product from strong sets but will quickly stop buying weak sets.

I think your numbers should look more like this

A leaked weak set is 70
A leaked strong set is 110

Since they seem to be lowering the power level of cards leaks currently have a greater impact on sales as the newer cards are worse than the cards currently in standard. Who wants to buy boxes when non/very few of the cards will be added to your deck?

I am going to offer the closest to proof for my opinion since WoTC doesn't release sales information.

Commander 2013 had 5 decks. The all star was obviously True Name Nemesis (TNN). The problem was he was 1 per 5 decks. So, while demand was high for that single card demand from stores for the decks was low as they also had to sell the other 4 decks. Many months later, as in this could have been a spoiler earlier than the God Book, WoTC decides to make the decks a 3/2 ratio with 2 decks per case being the TNN deck. This should prove that strong cards sell the product, otherwise why did WoTC change the distribution many months after the product was released? Because they knew players would buy more product with the new ratio of cards since the player base knew the power of the cards. They refused to buy 4 crappy decks to get the one good deck. This shows that it isn't so much the spoilers but the quality of the product that is really impacting sales.

    I would contact

    http://www.crystalcommerce.com/

They are a website development company that specialize in cards/board games etc. They have a POS system, not sure what they will charge if you only want the POS vs having it in conjunction with a website. These are the guys who Channel Fireball and Cape Fear Games and many other cards stores use.

They are currently making a website for me and have been great so far.

The reliable sellers I know about don't send sealed product to my country.

Yeah, no legit seller will ship out of country. A few extra bucks isn't worth not getting product. Of course other posters didn't realize you needed product shipped from another country to be cheaper.

IMO I find it a misconduct to pre-order something and then erase it because the spoiler are not worthy of your portfolio. Even by the board to do a forced chargeback on the seller's account . BRAVO

That's why you state something like "A nonrefundable deposit of $25 per box applies to each preordered box. If you cancel your preorder, you will receive a refund for your total purchase price, less $25 a box." and bam, you get paid $25 per box they cancel on. If you don't do that, well, tough luck, that's business.

When they do charge backs a non refundable deposit might not matter, depending on the bank. I know a big comic dealer who had a $10,000 charge back from a UK customer on a Fed Ex or UPS package. Not sure what happened in the end, but having to fight a charge back probably isn't worth the time for $25.

Here in Japan they are currently taking orders for boxes at 24,000 yen per box. I have to check if that sign is up next week, if it is the print run will probably be very big.

Goyf still mythic though... price won't go down and will still be hard to get. Also, Karn.

Price will probably go down a fair but, it won't be cheap but will probably go down a fair percentage. Don't forget they are printing MM in 3 languages. The print run this time will probably be 3 times or more of MM1.

    Thanks for the replies.

I will be staying close to the airport but anywhere close to a subway station is good for me. I am ranking places to go like this:

    1. Walking distance of a Subway station. I'm on vacation, waiting 30 minutes outside for a bus isn't what I want to be doing on vacation.
    2. Number of players. I am bringing a few hundred Japanese foils to trade.
    3. Good event experience. This last on my list as I can go to the biggest store in Tokyo most weekends and at set tournament times play Legacy/Modern/Standard all with the same prize payout with no min. number of players. I am on vacation, extra time on rounds is relaxation for me, not stress.

    Hi,

Going to be visiting my family in Toronto over the holidays and was wondering which stores are the busiest. I am looking at playing Standard and trading Japanese foils. I am thinking 401 and Harry T since they are close together or is Face to Face games or another store better?

Unfortunately I am leaving on January 3rd so I will miss the Face to Face event they are holding that weekend.

    Thanks in Advance.

On the other trading site I have seen people comment on how it's looking like the Vintage price hike may prove to be false. Before SCG's was usually very low to sold out of power. They now have 11 Black Lotus in stock/14 Ancestral Recalls etc. While the price will end up being up, the price jump is probably not going to stick.

But I do agree with your statement. I think people have incentive to move expensive cards they aren't using into cards on the reserve list or cash.

  • posted a message on Yugioh outselling magic?
Living in Japan, I can say Japan is what all but one of the posters are missing. The Japanese market is HUGE. In Japan only a few MTG specialty shops don't carry Yugioh, but many shops smaller shops don't carry, or carry a limited selection of MTG. Whenever I go somewhere new and see a shop I go in to see if I can snag some nice foils and was surprised the first few times I went to shops and they didn't have MTG. While Japan might be 1/3 the size of the US, I wouldn't be surprised if more people have played a CCG/TCG in Japan vs America, it seems like all the boys here have played at least one CCG/TCG.

Also, a lot of people underestimate the kids market. When Pokemon first came out it crushed MTG in sales, as a MTG player at the time I was shocked when I read that, but that was because of my view.

From Wiki, since the other time I posted this information many people didn't believe it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collectible_card_game

By the summer of 1999, the Pokémon TCG became the first CCG to outsell Magic: The Gathering. The success of Pokémon brought renewed interest to the CCG market and many new companies began pursuing this established customer base. Large retail stores such as Walmart and Target began carrying CCGs and by the end of September, Hasbro was convinced on its profitability and bought Wizards of the Coast for $325 million.[4][18]

    Hey all,

In the process of converting my Marath deck to 100% non-English cards, I've resorted to buying a few cards from Ebay international sellers. Specifically, I've bought a $32 card from Germany and a 10$ card from Singapore. I was about to purchase a $1.50 card from France when I noticed in their fine print that I would be responsible for any customs fees, import tax, etc. The other two auctions made no mention of this, and honestly I hadn't even considered it before for relatively low-value items like magic cards.

However, the internet has not been particularly helpful in ascertaining whether or not I'm going to get any bills from US customs in the mail. Can anyone who has bought from foreign sellers tell me whether I should expect anything? I sort of expect that the ceiling for import fees is higher than most magic cards, but I'm really in the dark here. I just don't want to buy a couple 2 dollar cards and get hit with something like a $10 flat fee for each purchase out of the blue.

    Thanks!

Customs will not send you a bill. Customs duties are paid at shipping time, so any applicable fees will be rolled into your shipping total.

For US Customs, items under $200 are "negligible". Other countries have other rules.

Where are you getting this information? I am guessing you are getting it from Ebays Global Shipping Program, which is a rip-off, $20 to ship a MTG card.

If I go to my Post Office here in Japan with an item that may have duties applied to it in the US I won't be paying the customs fees. I just fill out the green customs card and list the contents and value, they don't even read the card. When it arrives at its destination that country will apply the customs charge. I don't think they even have a way to collect customs for the US or any other country, minus Japan.

I know in Canada when you have to pay sales taxes or customs on an item the enters Canada you have to pay $x when you pick-up your package. Europe is also the same. I can't imagine the US working any different, at least for small sellers. Sure some big companies like Rosetta Stone selling one type of product might able to combine your customs payment into the shipping price since they use Fed-Ex, but that isn't something anyone should expect from an Ebay seller.
