    so banned from standard:

5 cards out of 7 are from kaladesh...boy did that design team screw up...

Just like Urza's Block, Mirrodin, Scars of Mirrodin... really, the solution seems to be for Wizards to stop printing artifact blocks

(Yes, I know Urza's was supposed to be an Enchantment block, pedants)

Aggressive decks may want this. Reminds me of Browbeat, cept it's better.

It's worse than Browbeat, and Browbeat is unplayable. Browbeat at least has the potential for you to sneak a good draw, with this the opponent gets to pick exactly what they're denying you with knowledge beforehand

Haha, this is what, the third or fourth time Gush has been restricted? When will they learn?

Cantankerous and territorial, sandwurms claim even the skies above their dunes. But if you want to parade all over the dunes themselves, they're ok with that.

I'm torn... it kills me what a freaking mess Samut is design-wise, but I've been waiting for another Naya commander that interests me ever since Marath was banned in Duel, and Fires on a body definitely interests me.

What's up with all these wierd counterspells?

I get the feeling that Wizards is wanting to redefine blue control decks in a manner that's a semblance of its former self but one that new players feel is more "fun"; however that term may be applied. I say that because it feels like the different blue stuff we've been seeing is coming out in a hunt-and-peck style that is searching for an answer that is unknown.

"Maybe this will work? ... Nope"
"How about this? ... Not quite. Tweak it a bit."
"Tweaked. ... Ah, that made it worse."

I have no concrete reason for saying that. It's just how I feel about control these days: They don't like how it used to be, and they are working on building a new variant of it.

Also, am I the only one who was hoping for Reduce//Reuse//Recycle? Smile

This seems accurate. They really want 2 mana to be "situational", forcing Blue to have the right solution to the right threat, while 3 mana is a hard "nope". They're having trouble finding the balance, however - Silumgar's Scorn proved pretty good because it could be hard counter, while Revolutionary Rebuff is nigh-unplayable. At 3, Dissolve and Void Shatter aren't enough of a boost over Cancel to be playable, but Disallow seems like it is in the right place. Lots of experimentation.

I think it's also that "modern" counterspells have a wide variety in power, like other spells. There's a heck of a lot of discard and burn that's unplayable, some that's grudgingly playable, and every now and then a great one. Not every standard is going to have a Lightning Strike and not every standard is going to have a Disallow

I wonder if there's any marketing reason to not have the Gatewatch keep heading up Planeswalker decks but show up infrequently in the sets

Ditch nonfoils as soon as you can. Pack foils and prerelease foils are probably a wash - I doubt they'll take much more of a downturn, but they aren't going to go above what they are now for a few years. And SDCC copies I'd say are still holds.
One of mine actually is a still-sealed Prerelease foil, so thanks for clarifying Smile

I've been sitting on some Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. Seems like new Gideon will make him even better, but fewer copies will be in demand, right? Should I unload them now or wait?

If Gideon of the Trials turns into a creature, and you Shock him with the Soul-Scar Mage out (or if you were using a source with Wither or Infect) would you deal that damage in either -1/-1 counters, or would that only remove loyalty counters from him, or both? I do know that if he received -1/-1 counters, he would retain them even if he turned back into a non-creature planeswalker...

Neither. Gideon prevents the damage and laughs at you Frown

That leds me to the conclusion that you are wrong, and have either no clue what you are talking about, or might purposely misleading.

Sure, if you think i am wrong, you can instead of just claiming use some actual proof for your claims, in case the World championship is not representative enough for you.

The way people define "control" as "must be monoblue and contain counterspell" is as if people said you can't play aggro anymore because there's no Erhnam Djinn and Armageddon.

Machine Head was a deck that won through tons of discard, tons of creature destruction, and four Rishadan Ports to tap down your lands. It's the dang definition of a control deck.
And the Wildfire Deck was one of the better Grim Monolith + Voltaic Key decks, which were ridiculous combo decks.

This might sound like sacrilege, but what if we took boonweaver combo out?

I know what you're thinking? That's unthinkable! It's the name of the deck! It lets us get early surprise kills off entomb -> reanimate.

BUT, if we have leonin relic warder and the living plane + worm/norn, AND boonweaver AND hunter/titan, then that is 4 kinds of victory routes. We used to just have two and did fine, so what if we took out the boonweaver combo?
We would gain 4 slots JUST taking out cards used for the combo. (weaver, karmic guide, Reveillark, pattern), and 2 more if we take out the creature sac outlets, another 1 for altar (though maybe keep it for sun titan, fiend hunter?)

I know it sounds crazy but we have a lot of lines toward victory available now. Maybe we can take the Boonweaver out? Maybe you agree or not, but I think it might be something to think about, just to see if something interesting can be created.

Boonweaver isn't a "fourth" line of victory, it's just one of the best ways to assemble the lines of victory. How do you achieve the reliability of actually getting titan/hunter or warder/reanimate, plus a sac outlet, without Boonweaver?

I'm a long time Burn player in Legacy and having expanded my library of Legacy decks in the past year, I was thinking of converting my Burn deck into the Modern version (I'm not a Modern player, but it would be nice to have a Modern deck for when there's some free time at the local FNM and other free players don't have Legacy decks).

Having not played Burn in Modern before, what's the typical line of play against threats like Kitchen Finks? Try to Skullcrack when it hits the table, obviously. And I assume Searing Blood/Path/Lavamancer at EOT if I can. If I can't, do I just take the hits and save removal for bigger threats like Rhino or Blighted Agent? Kill it and let him have the 2 life?
