Something that I noticed in testing was definitely that the G/R decks can get going faster with bigger guys, so while I was re-asessing the deck for rotation, I decided that I wanted to take a bit more of a controlling approach than my old list, while still being able to pump out some threats. I have been having success with this deck so far, and I generally beat out most aggro decks and go pretty even with other G/x decks.
I won't discuss the obvious cards, but I will go over how some of the cards have been performing for me, and some more cards I have been considering.
Horizon Chimera : This card has been great for me. You can cast it at opponent EoT to get it down for a life off of the draw then a swing in for 3 in the air. Essentially provides a 4 life swing each turn on it's own as long as it can get through. It's pretty fragile at 2 toughness, but I think there are more threatening cards in the deck that opponents want to deal with and if they use removal on this, then that just makes it safer to drop a bigger threat knowing that they are down 1 removal spell in hand. The 4 mana that this card costs is pretty easy for the deck and generally getting one out at end of turn before your turn 4 is a good play to make. It starts hitting very hard when you get a Nylea, God of the Hunt out with it for the pumps as well. It also synergizes very well with, the next card to be discussed.
Dissolve : This was in my sideboard for most of last standard, and I actually ended up cutting the 3 Chord of Calling that I had for them in my maindeck. Getting one in the opening hand is nice, and it works well when you also have the Horizon Chimera in hand, to give you something to play if there is nothing you need to counter. In terms of targets for the spell, one of the weaknesses of the G/U deck is it's lack of hard removal. There are some threats that are hard to deal with, and this helps take care of them before they can even hit the board. I have found that having these mainboard has really helped with controlling the flow of the game.
Sagu Mauler : Game 1, morph into this guy is great, and you can often start swinging on turn 4 with this guy unmorphed. Game 2 and 3 I noticed that it is riskier to play it morphed since they know what's coming as it is the only morph in my deck. The good part about this is that even at 6 mana, hardcasting the dude isn't even that difficult. This guy is a monster and he will beat down the opponent fast, it is also another card that synergizes well with the Nylea pump due to trample.
Kiora, The Crashing Wave : This is a great control oriented card. A big problem with non-blue G/X matches is that often, their threats will get bigger than ours. (Including 20+/20+ Genesis Hydras in mono-G or Polukranos/Stormbreaths all monstroused up and doubled with Xenagod in G/R) Kiora really helps with stopping their main threat from doing anything. This might be a sideboard card in some metas, but my local area is filled with mono-green and G/R so I mainboard them for this reason. If you get her to ult, then you're in an almost unbeatable position.
Icy Blast : This is an insane finisher for the deck. With the ferocity trigger (which shouldn't be hard to get late game) you should be able to get in free swings with your board that turn, and with most of them again the next turn. Once you have a few guys out, you should be able to end the game in the 2 turn window it provides.
Ranger's Guile : This one is still iffy, but it is my current replacement for Simic Charm, which I absolutely loved last standard. I liked to have a way to protect my guys and right now this is the best option I can think of. Fizzle spot removal with the hexproof, turn a chump block into a trade with the +1/+1 etc. I think it provides good protection that can be versatile for your creatures. It's also easy for the opponent to overlook that single green mana source you have untapped.
Considerations moving forward:
I have been testing with 2x Icefeather Aven in place of a couple Horizon Chimera as well as a decent tempo play, and a way to get in for damage starting early on, will probably end up in my sideboard in the end, just not sure what to cut for them. I like that this card can be played for 2 just as a 2/2 flier that can start beating down, but is still valuable late game to get rid of a big threat for a turn and reset any buffs that it had on it.
I was also considering splashing white in this deck (Maybe this thread isn't the right place to talk about this though) , but I don't know if it will end up harming the consistency in the end. I think that the removal it provides through Banishing light (not to mention it is more splashable than most black removal) and the utility of Gods Willing would be great additions to the deck if you're looking to shift towards even more of a controlling role, and I also have loved Ajani, Mentor of Heroes since he was released, but haven't played him in a deck yet. I think that his counters would be good on the evasive creatures here, his dig would help find the threats/answers we need and with the good blockers we have in the deck already, you might be able to ultimate him for 100 life every once and a while. I'm cautiously optimistic about a possible white splash, and I will probably try it out just for fun at some FNMs or something. With a couple of the W/G and W/U fetches, I think that the manabase could be changed up a bit to make this an easy splash, by just dropping a single plains into the deck you can have 5 cards that will give you the white source you need, not to mention you could toss a couple W/U or W/G temples on top of that even.

Craig Wescoe just wrote the definitive article on the week 1 metagame, pitting Caryatid/Courser decks against everything else, and the strengths and weaknesses of each side. Having read through them, I'm very pleased that against every deck mentioned we can matchup very well.

If you're looking for ammunition to justify this card choice or that, this article explains what we have to beat. Here's my list:

1x Reclamation Sage
1x Sagu Mauler
My theory of the deck is that I agree with everything of the primer, but have one emphasis: Cards. Prophet of Kruphix gives mana to play out all your spells, and you'll want more. Also the deck wants different cards at different times, so play the tools to get them. In my list: Courser, Prognostic Sphinx, Genesis Hydra, Dig Through Time, Yisan. In OP's list, Thassa also has this role.
Once that's given, green/blue naturally has tons of power, and so we disrupt their game to win. Instead of Thassa, Nylea is the more usual way to get through. She's less effective in a G/x mirror, but if we can play a Polymorphist's Jest, Curse of the Swine or some other blue spell, trample will win the day.

Gorgosaurusrex posted a message on Every few months... Trading PostI've been running a janky Grixis post deck, with Tymaret, the Murder King and Purphoros, God of the Forge to maximize damage from Goat tokens. I also run 4x Generator Servant and 4x Scuttling Doom Engine. Stormbreath Dragon has been moving in and out. It's a weird deck, but I took 4th at FNM last week with it.Posted in: Standard Archives
I'm gonna miss Trading Post. -

The argument of not being able to remove creatures is true to an extent but keep in mind that the focus here is to dominate the board by flooding it with creatures, most of which will be coming at instant speed to block in combat (becoming our removal).
In order to survive you'll have to chump block every now and then or take a few hits until you can gain traction which is not that hard with Prophet.
By the time you get the board on a stall its not hard to win since you can just find Cyclonic Rift and clear the board completely, or start attacking with unblockable-vigilant stuff thanks to Thassa, God of the Sea.
I used to play this deck during the Abzan Midrange era, and I was able to compete in that meta (I won gameday back then despite the abzan midrange flood).
So yeah, not having "real" removal can be a bit challenging but you eventually learn how to play the deck and start doing well.
And the deck is really cool too

Saheeli is so much better than Sai anyway, since she triggers from almost anything in the deck and is harder to answer.

R1 vs Ponza, 2-0: I thought he was on Zoo until he blows my land on turn 3... after that I knew he wouldn't have a lot of interaction so I waited till he Bolted 2 of my birds and then went off.
R2 vs Stompy, 2-0: he had a dismember but I had more dudes so I combo turn 3. I also comboed turn 3 on game 2.
R3 vs Living End, 2-1: I had never played this match before so I did lose a game and then I knew how I had to play > board in Paradoxical Outcome and force him to play my game. It wasn't easy though and I also used Faith's Shield to protect my dudes from Beast Within.
R4 vs Burn, 2-1: I know this is a bad matchup but my friend kept his 1-lander just because he had 2 Eidolons. He never got his second. Game 3 I go to 5 and don't find a removal for his Eidolon soon enough. Game 3 I'm going first and I have 3 dudes in my hand which help me stay alive since he's got to kill them. He knew I had removal for his Eidolon since he revealed a Path I had on top when he attacks me with his Goblin Guide. This caused him to play completely different and I just killed all his dudes and eventually went off.
Overall I'd say luck was in my favor, but I also mullinaged everytime my hand wasn't good. I made a mistake on R1 by keeping Abrade in the deck instead of switching them for Wear/Tear which would've been much better since they play... Bloodmoon?... yeah I kinda forgot they play that card hahahaha.
This was my list:
4 Sram, Senior Edificer
4 Puresteel Paladin
2 Abrade
2 Serum Visions
1 Grapeshot
4 Retract
4 Cathar's Shield
4 Accorder's Shield
3 Mox Opal
3 Sigil of Distinction
4 Bone Saw
4 Paradise Mantle
1 Golem-Skin Gauntlets
4 Flooded Strand
2 Windswept Heath
3 Sacred Foundry
3 Hallowed Fountain
2 Plains
1 Abrade
2 Paradoxical Outcome
3 Path to Exile
3 Wear//Tear
2 Faith's Shield
2 Lightning Helix
Artificer's Assistant is amazing and so is Paradoxical Outcome.
