Can't wait to get foil "omniclones" for edh and cube, but I'm slightly confused about one thing...
Shouldn't Avalanche Tusker be a loxodon instead of an elephant considering it's standing upright and wielding an axe?
Depends on the number of voting options. For votes with only 2 options, nobody takes anything because they couldn't have voted against you. For cards with more than one option, like Council Guardian, only opponents who voted against both of your picks get punished.
Helpful post, kingneb. Can you explain how you used Cogwork Librarian in Grid? I don't really see the utility in a format where you're already taking multiple cards per pack.
While I think these are all excellent choices for reprints, it seems like an odd choice to have sudden random references to New Phyrexia and Ravnica thrown in when this set is supposed to have its own setting and continuity. I get that they have done similar callbacks for casual summer releases before, but admittedly it tarnishes the flavor for me somewhat.
With Lore Seeker at rare, it shouldn't run much of a chance of chaining too many extra packs. It could make for an interesting table once you get 2 or even 3 extra packs in. Cogwork Librarian though is going to be an interesting little monster to handle.
I wonder how MTGO will handle it. Will they just give you another Conspiracy pack to draft? or grab a random one from you inventory?
Conspiracy is not being released on MTGO, although cards like Dack Fayden are being included in Vintage Masters.
Dumb question - say I don't feel like double sleeving basic lands or Elvish Mystic.. is that a tourny violation? Like "ah you can tell your next draw is a land since it's not as poofy"
Don't buy the space in other languages thing. There are plenty of cards with long names (for a sense of how much space it takes I'll put the name this should have first):
Dekella, Bident of Thassa
Oathkeeper, Takeno's Daisho
Tatsumasa, the Dragon's Fang
I had a longer list, but is was a bit too cluttered.
(Added emphasis.) To everyone wondering about the lack of "Dekella," I think this actually illustrates the issue pretty well. MaRo and others have stated that the Kamigawa block suffered somewhat from a plethora of hard-to-remember card names featuring non-English "names" followed by a lengthy descriptor. I think what we're seeing here is an attempt to revert to simpler card names for these legendary cards, while saving the thematic names for interested folks to get from Planeswalker's Guide.
This saturday night (-> tomorrow) we will get some spoilers. There is some sort of MTG PAX Party and MaRo even stated on his blog he has some nice stuff to spoil.
PAX Prime isn't until the end of August. We have two weeks to go.
The only effect adding Dies into the vocabulary had on Morbid was to reduce the number of words needed in the reminder text/rules explanation for the ability word. It would have still worked the same way if Dies was left at the old the wording of 'when ~ leaves the enters the graveyard'.
With this coming in with M14 not Theros we can't take it as a direct link that Convoke is or is not coming in Theros more it is just a convenient time to make the change in rules.
I don't mean it changed the functionality, I mean the design of Morbid is what prompted them to introduce the "dies" term with M12. MaRo states that this is the case in this design article. Something similar could be happening here.
I caught on to this as well, but I wondered why they wouldn't just wait until the update when the mechanic was reintroduced.
However, I went back and noticed the "dies" terminology was introduced with the Magic 2012 rules update, which obviously had a huge bearing on the Morbid mechanic in the following block, Innistrad. So this could actually be a solid hint.
Interesting time to adjust the reminder text for Convoke when folks are speculating on it being the returning mechanic for Theros.
Makes me wonder if the fact that they're doing it now (rather than waiting for the Theros update) actually makes it less likely that's it's coming back...
I can't wait to draft this set.

Correct. Cards must be sleeved in an identical manner. (See section 3.10)

Control Magic and Basalt Monolith arts are from MTGO.
Also, From the Ashes is a new card.
