Not sure how I missed it, but earlier this week, but Josh Silvestri posted some lists in his article on ChannelFireball.
These lists look really similar to the ones posted here, with a few differences. I take this to mean we're on the right track, and that a little more refining should yield a very viable, if not top-tier deck for this new Standard!
So if you attach Temur Battle Rage to say a Undergrowth Champion with two counter and it gets blocked by say a 2/2 your champion looses one counter and the second hit gets threw?
If your Champ is a 4/4 double-striker with trample, and gets blocked by a 2/2, he won't take damage and have any counters removed. The opponent will take 2 off of the First Strike Combat step, and 4 off normal combat.
Honestly, I think a hyper-aggressive gameplan contributes to this decks inconsistency. I've made two tempo lists so far(Naya and Temur), but they havent seen much testing yet. It'll all theory crafting right now. Once we've ramped up, one of the most obvious threats to play is Hangarback Walker, using all those land drops to put something on the board that demands an answer. There's also Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Sarkhan, the Unbroken, Whisperwood Elemental, Dragonlord Atarka, Wingmate Roc, or of course, Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger.
I'll posts lists soon if anyone cares to try them out. I myself will probably wait until release day.
As far as color-fixing goes, might I point to Chromatic Sphere. I know its an artifact, not a creature, but it's fair acceleration, and gives the colorless lands unplumbed depths of value. We keep talking about how much this deck relies on colored mana. Wouldn't this be an elegant and effective solution?
I'm still testing it in my deck, and I'd love to hear from anyone else who felt like testing it!
So, the only thing capable of tutoring up erayo would be something like Worldly Tutor? something that can tutor up creatures?
Actually, that doesn't sound so bad, I'd be able to tutor up either Ethersworn Canonist OR Erayo, depending on which I need... But it's out of color in G...
I don't like having to depend on getting that one Green mana just to tutor up One of my two combo pieces...
I've recently acquired a 4th Mox Opal, would you recommend I add it into my deck for color stability?
I need to add a 4th Glimmervoid as well, but I'm not sure what to take out,
Anyone have any ideas to make my deck a bit more...consistent?
If you happen to be running Ravager, yes. Totally add that 4th opal. If you don't have Ravager, or an equivalent sac engine, then I wouldn't call it worth it. Getting one stuck in your hand with one on the field is not a great feeling.
4 Glimmervoids are absolutely necessary. With it, that one G per
copy isn't so hard to get a hold of. And tutoring for Canonist isn't something I can really imagine as being a bad thing. You also have Infernal Tutor, or if you really wanted to do something special, Living Wish. Infernal wont wreck your manabase and it actually rewards you for vomiting your hand onto the field.
Worth a look, but I wont give it a gold recommendation quite yet.
I'm no rules guru but I don't think you can search for Erayo that way. I believe that it's considered to be only the "original" form of the card in all zones outside of the battlefield. Like transform cards.
Does someone have an official ruling on this?
You would be correct, sir!
We have two rules that deal with this:
709.2. In every zone other than the battlefield, and also on the battlefield before the permanent flips, a flip card has only the normal characteristics of the card. Once a permanent is flipped, its normal name, text box, type line, power, and toughness don’t apply and the alternative versions of those characteristics apply instead.
And this:
709.4. Flipping a permanent is a one-way process. Once a permanent is flipped, it’s impossible for it to become unflipped. However, if a flipped permanent leaves play, it retains no memory of its status
So, I'm not a huge fan of the Superfriends archetype, but I wont argue that it isn't good. My particular decklist is taking its cues from older Junk/Dark Horizons decks in Legacy. I like to focus on efficient creatures, board control, and disruption.
It is a work in progress, and it is a budgeted deck right now. My next addition to it will probably be Liliana or a second Vraska.
I like Planeswalkers, but I like the creatures in here better.
Desecration Demon is fixed Abyssal Persecutor. He's awesome beats, and Farseek lets us get him out turn 3 with decent reliability. From there, he either swing big, or helps further our board control by putting pressure on the opponent to make them sac critters. I haven't had a single problem with being a 4-of yet; I'm never upset when I draw into him.
Dreg Mangler is still testing, but so far, he holds his merits as a 3-drop. Haste is relevant enough warrant more than one, but I can't tell if that means 3. So your comments on this card choice are more than welcome.
Avacyn as a one-of has been great. Locks your board up tight, and forces them to either deal with her while your team alpha-strikes, or scoop. Recommended.
In the sideboard, another notable card choice is Merciless Eviction. I'm pretty stoked on this one. It's a situational solution to being overrun by creatures, eliminating opposing Walkers, or dealing with Rings, Spheres, and Assembles. We have Supreme Verdict.
Witchbane is beautiful in almost any matchup. Jund, Sligh, American, Esper Control, maybe even Naya, but I'm doubtful on that last one.
Crypt, well, I just crack that in response to an attempted Snapcast.
I will attempt to get better matchup data, but so far, it just hasn't had what it takes to bring down Flash Control, and Aristocrats has been problematic, but not unwinnable.
Jund definitely doesn't deal well with its board answers, and it should be win.
Red typically has a harder time dealing with our board than we have dealing with theirs. The only loss to RDW/Sligh I've experienced thus far has been thanks to a topdecked Traitorous Instinct, where they stole my demon and swung while I had 4 life. Who plays that card? This guy did.
My friend plays an American list almost identical to Joel Larsson's deck at PT Gatecrash, and while the game may be long, this deck comes out on top about 90% of the time thanks to sound beatz, removal, and those awesome taplands.
I still need Birds. After I get them, I'll probably take our Armored Skaab for them. I should be able to post results Saturday, since I plan on using this in the next FNM.
As always, feedback is welcome.
I've never been sorry to draw a Thoughtcast. Very rarely will you pay more than U for it, especially if you drop Citadel T1. The I've drop two on T3-4 and loved it.
Galvanic Blast is the best Burn spell in the game for us, just like Dispatch. We're lucky enough to have cards tailor made for the deck. However, unlike Dispatch, Blast works well only if you devote a fair portion of the deck to red, like Atog Fling. The a Champion with Plating is good enough to neglect Blast usually.
I would like to see an Artful Dodge or two for MoE. Giving him Evasion makes him better than Champ, and the fact it can be flashed-back onto multiples makes it a boss on paper.
Anyone feel like playtesting this with me?
So, as far as Spellbomb goes, is it enough of a problem to warrant a Stony Silence or two in the Side? For what, im not sure. Thinking of removing a Grudge for Creeping Corrosion, but not totally sold on it. I think Life's Finale might be a good 1-of as well. Considering that with it we do get more fuel for the fire (creatures in our graveyard) and can reposition the board with it.
So, I've been revising my approach after the release of DKA, and I think this can pave a very synergistic deck here with a fairly low relative curve.
Still sold on Ruinator as a back up option, 2 in the grave is worth one on the field. Ghoultree, too. Consider that you should generally be able to cast him turn 3-4 if all goes well and good.
Boneyard Wurm may turn out to be a bit too much, and I'm definitely open to completely replacing him.
Phantasmal Image in the side is very versatile, dealing with Thrun, copying a Ghoultree, Getting another Fright out. All in all, he seems like an awesome idea.
The only thing I worry about it Grafdigger's Cage. Haven't seen it yet, but I worry. Thinking of revising some Sulfur Falls into the mix so that I can add Ancient Grudge to the Side (which I might should do anyways).
Any thoughts?
I'm also very interested in Sudden Disappearance as a finish enabler and Mirror-Mad Phantasm as a huge Graveyard Filler. Havengul Lich also seems like he could work very well with some of the creatures in the decks, like Ghoultree and Cagebreakers.
EDIT: Went ahead and edited in Grudge. He has more uses than just Cage.
I just want to mention how much I love this show. It's the one thing - besides MTG, ofc - that I've ever really gotten truly fanatical about. I was not pleased when I was made to get off the computer right as I was gonna watch the new episode livestream. Every saturday for the last month or so. All so my mom can have a bath.
I'm a step away from writing fanfiction. An MLP Forrest Gump. As in Forrest Gump with ponies from the show. Yeah...I even wrote a song about Trixie. Just the lyrics, though.
I actually just published the first chapter from my first Fic in FimFiction.net!
Also, writing Ponysongs are fun. I'm working on a Jazz Instrumental for RBD, because a cool pony deserves a cool song.
Good luck to you on both counts, and remember to have fun!
