I just woke up from a five hour nap. I love Thursdays.

I haven't posted here in awhile so to recap my life for the past month and a half or so: College has been a lot of work/a blast/I'm not drinking too much anymore (which is likely a good thing). I'm dating this guy, Robbie, and life is for the most part really enjoyable.

If you have a Mac, a free program called Handbrake converts the video_ts folders into 1 or 1.5gb mp4s. It has presets for converting into iPod, PS3, and so on.

Really? I've heard that my Eagle and my commitment to Model UN will help me a lot...

It will. A big devotion to one or two groups is a lot better than being a chronic joiner.

Don't worry about the essay too much. They're largely cookie-cutter.

Don't worry too much about your grades, either. They're more or less fine, and so long as your in the top 10% of your graduating class you'll be able to get into a lot of good colleges. State schools are more or less like a gimmie at this point: they should be your safety schools.

A 2210 is more than good enough. Your writing score doesn't come into play much (or it didn't as of last year), but your 1600 score is good, so don't sweat it.

Make sure you get a good letter of recommendation from a teacher (you should think about that now rather than later so your teacher isn't swamped with tons of letters to write after winter break). If you're worried about your essay to the college, bring it into your English teacher. They should be more than capable of helping you out. Beyond that, though, there's not too much you can do, so don't freak out about it.

Oh, wow. I'm really sorry. That must be really hard, all at once. People were really supportive of me, so I have no idea what that's like... =(

Likewise...Or at least they didn't take it so bad. For your parents, I dunno, I feel in general being gay is a huge departure from their expectation of life, so they might end up being ok in the long run and need to some time to get used to the idea.

If they don't, there's not much you can do about it. You're you, and they would've found out at some point. Better to do it now and be able to be yourself than to go through stress of being "found out" for years.

Who you are describing, asofar as I can see it, are people who are interested in Madden, not games.

This is exactly who I'm describing, I'm glad to see you picked up on it :p You can tell that I'm describing specifically people who are interested in Madden and not general games; there is a difference between "Madden" gamers and the blanket casual gamers. That, along with the fact that there simply aren't a lot of Madden-type gamers on the Wii, is all I've been trying to say.

And I would say that describes the casual gamer. Someone who is barely interested in games, and buys only a few a year. I don't think someone has to necessarily be a sports fanatic to enjoy a Madden games.

I am not trying to say that every casual gamer buys Madden, but rather that most of the people who buy Madden are casual gamers.

I would agree if we're defining casual gamers as someone who only buys a few games a year. However, that's a blanket statement that doesn't accurately assess the situation. Since it's clear there are casual gamers on the Wii, and since you assert that Madden predominantly sells to casual gamers, there is a disconnect somewhere in the argument as Madden sells poorly on the Wii. Casual is too broad a term to describe whats happening, so you need to be more specific. What type of casual gamer buys Madden? Do these gamers play predominantly on Wii? These are the questions that are pertinent to the sales if we accept your definition of a casual gamer.

I don't accept your definition of a casual gamer, because someone who is barely interested in games does not describe a lot of Madden players. These people are very into games, they just into a select few games. I wouldn't say that you necessarily have to be a sports fanatic to enjoy Madden (in fact I know you don't), but that people who are (and are also gamers) will buy Madden.

I disagree, unless I misunderstood you. American football, I would be led to believe, is exceedingly popular in America, and appeals to the average person. Casual gamers represent the average person who is interested in games. Since the former is a subset of the latter, I'd reason that it is mostly casual gamers who buy into games like Madden. After all (to them, at least), what could be better than their favourite sport in video game form?

No, what he said spot-on describes most people I know who play Madden. They buy Madden and the newest iterations of the NBA and MLB games, and that's more or less it. I would also agree with necro that there are not a lot of these gamers playing the Wii. Sports fanatics and "the guys guy" would are a huge audience on Xbox, not so much Wii.

All Dalai Lama's are selected through lottery (kind of), it has to do with their features and how the the reborn Avalokitesvara can be seen through those features. The newly selected Panchen Lama was done by the current Dalai Lama (in exile) and therefore, not considered qualified.

I was under the impression that the Dalai Lama is only considered unqualified, or whatever the correct term is, by the PRC and not by Tibetan monks. Hence, I'm somewhat confused as to how China can be respectful of a religion while at the same time deciding that a (large) part of the religion is insufficient based on where it's located and what the political history is there.

Tibetan Buddhism isn't disallowed. China very much respect the Buddhist teachings and even put forth the new Dalai Lama (the 15th).

But Tibetan Buddhism is only on it's 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso. That the PRC removed the Panchen Lama that Tenzin Gyatso selected and replaced him with a child who many Tibetan monks do not recognize as the real Panchen Lama (he was selected through lottery, after all), does not seem to speak to Chinese tolerance of Tibetan Buddhism. Instead, it seems like the PRC is exercising a good degree of control over the religion. I don't see, if China is respectful towards Tibetan Buddhism, why Tenzin Gyatso no longer resides in the traditional seasonal homes of the Dalai Lama in Tibet but instead in Himachal Pridesh in northern India.

Why, if China is tolerant, do news articles like this exist? I realize thats not the most authoritative news site, but it was the easiest to find offhand for an old article. Keep in mind that more well-known sites like Reuters have published similar articles and interviews.

It is true that the Russian people, unlike the Chinese, are in fact still infatuated with their dictatorship).

The general feel that I get from reading a bit on Russia is that the younger generations who didn't grow up under the Soviet Union don't feel as much attachment to a dictatorship, whereas the older generations are much more comfortable with it. Certainly if you look at Russia's history, it has quite a bit of experience with dictatorships and similar-styled governments, but I don't think that it would be impossible for the political climate in Russia to change within another 20 years or so. I could be way off - I don't really know how indicative the articles that I've read are of Russia as a whole - but that seems to be the case.

If a war was to erupt with China, however, I think it would happen sooner than that. It's unlikely that a war would happen unless China wanted one to, though. No western country is really going to, ahem, preemptively strike China.

me too, got a bit of those too.

by comparison, my manner and dress are more formal than most of my peers. I got a lot of static from people when I first wore shorts here.

and Blue, I live in Alpine. My implication was just that I currently live in a small texas town where little happens. Sure I can get dressed up and go out, but it's not like new york where it's practically a run way on the sidewalk. (or so I am told by my new york theatre teacher). I'll be going on a trip to New York this thanksgiving for a theatre trip and I can't wait, but I also want to get nice clothes so as not to look odd.

Even my formal looking outfits have a casual flair to them.

Living in NYC, I can confirm that this is untrue. I wear athletic shorts half the time, and cargo shorts and some polo shirts the rest. No need for button down shirts or anything.

    Like... wtf mate.

One must wonder what his ***** size was then. And whether he even knew if his brother had a bigger one. I mean, they're brothers, his bro might have one of a pretty similar size (at least, assuming my brother wasn't lying to me, the difference between us is only about .5"... in my favor of course :D)

I can't even imagine having that conversation with any of my brothers...I think it's a little bit more than I want to know about any of them.

Anyway, I move in tomorrow! Woo-hoo. I've been packing like a fiend all day because I procrastinate way too much. On the up side, I've been too busy to feel anxious about the deal, or missing my friends. I've been busy making plans for tomorrow night, too, so I don't feel like a loser without any friends.

Yeah, I go to Ross Dress for Less and wherever has sales. Me = Ridiculously fashionable

At any rate, if someone says "I just flat believe that being gay (or anything, really) is immoral, and that is just my faith." does that end the discussion for you? Should it end the discussion for you?

It ends the discussion for me. People that set in their beliefs can't have discussions, they can only talk at you. It's not worth getting frustrated over if someone clearly isn't going to give an inch.
