Standard is alive, well, and far more diverse than its been in a long time.

I'm pretty sure this statement is said EVERY SINGLE standard cycle since the beginning of MTGS.

    Not impressed with the cards?

This set has more chase rares and mythics in it that any other set in the history of the game.

If you are disappointed with a set that has Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant, Vendillion Clique, Cryptic Command, Sword of Fire and Ice, Sword of Light and Shadow, Vedalkan Shackles, Elspeth, Path to Exile, Pact of Negation, Tombstalker, Blood Moon, Kiki-Jiki, Chalice of the Void, Tooth and Nail, Knight of the Reliquary, Maelstrom Pulse, Academy Ruins, etc, then I'm sorry but your "expectations" are simply not in line with reality.

If the only thing that would satisfy you are booster packs containing 15 Underground Sea's available from vending machines for a quarter, then you are going to be disappointed with Magic forever.

Here's my perspective issue on this, I don't care.

I didn't want a Goyf nor a Bob. I don't play Modern. (actually that's not fair as the new rule changes have me quitting magic completely)

But I do think that the additions of cards like the Legendary Dragon cycle was a bull**** along with specific cards like Life from the Loam or cards like Rude Awakening. Spend upwards to $12 for a pack and open Greater Gargadon? Yeah go **** yourself Wizards. There is a handful of cards on that list which were not even remotely "needed" to be put in. Did they really need another reprint of Dragonstorm? Jesus, they could have easily demoted that down to common given the creep of the game.

The only thing I really see this product doing is the one thing "some" people were hoping for which was dropping the price of a few cards. However, given the costs of investment for the product the likely result will be Goyf and Bob dropping some and a few others dropping a little. (blood moon might go back to $3 ... woooo!)

It's almost never legal to come to blows with a cop

Thats not true at all. If the cop is exceeding his/her valid exercise of power and blows are necessary to defend yourself, then its perfectly legal. It's just not a good idea.

Example: If Rodney king had (somehow) stood up and punched back, his exercise of force would have been legal.

Incorrect, charges would have been filed and it would be up to the DA whether or not to proceed. Based on the trial options, it might be a winnable case and it might not.

This is the problem with the "Police State" issue in the United States. If an officer identifies his or herself or is in uniform, you're pretty boned and must turn to a lawyer.

I didn't say he wouldn't have gotten arrested for it, or that charges wouldn't have been filed for it.

Killing someone in self defense is legal. You're still going to have charges filed against you, you'll still need a defense attorney to argue that your actions were, in fact, self defense, but if you can establish that then you will be found not guilty and/or the charges will be dropped.

An action being legal doesn't mean that you won't get arrested for it.

    So, no, I wasn't incorrect.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. IT WOULD NOT BE LEGAL. period.

My follow up was simply making the point that even though it would be a crime, it would be up to the DA to make the case out of it. Since you get the choice between Jury or Bench trial, many cases such as these don't go to sentencing (unless they DA can scare the **** out of the defendant in order to plea bargain) on the hopes that a jury would be presented the evidence and agree with the State. (Something not always easy depending on the history or character of the defendant.)

So, despite what you and others think, if an Officer is beating the **** out of you and you strike back, even in fear of your life, its a crime.

    It sucks.

Side note question on this. What if the creature has double strike as well? Would 9 damage trample through or just 8?

I've played magic for years now and I still don't truly understand mass come into play. Things like Genesis Wave and landfall triggers always seem to puzzle me. Same goes for Scapeshift and Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle.

I was looking at Ghostway and started to wonder if Riku of the two Reflections was to come back into play with any other creature from the Ghostway, would I be able to use his second ability?

A drone is kind of hard to use inside my home if someone breaks in and is armed, or if someone makes the mistake of trying to mug or carjack me.

My semi-automatic pistol, however, that I legally purchased, am trained to use, and am licensed to carry is much for convenient for personal defense; and my legally purchased semi-automatic shotgun is about ideal for home defense.

According to "professionals", you are better suited with an AR15 than an semi-auto shotgun for home defense, though the margin is small. That is unless you live in an apartment, then the AR is better than a shotgun by miles.

    Gotta love the .223.

  • posted a message on Is Ghave really OP or ban worthy?
So here's the gist of this thread/question. I've got a player in our playgroup who cannot stand Ghave what so ever. He openly states/feels that Ghave is too powerful and the only thing prohibiting it from being banned is the fact that it was in the pre-con decks.

I personally find this hard to believe but don't know if it is because I like Ghave or if I'm being fair and objective.

The argument is that Ghave is completely broke with "any undying" creature which I find to be a fairly weak complaint. The player seems to believe that on the power level, Ghave is even more broken/powerful than Niv or Animar.

I've pointed out the available graveyard hate available in the game currently, but he seems to then shift on how there "isn't an answer" to Ghave because Ghave can just sac himself..... which I still can't figure out how that's a big deal.

So in short, am I over looking something with this? Am I just too biased because I like the general and concept?

Very true. I also don't see where this mechanic has "zero" potential for EDH. I guess if your a "bad" boring player it might not.

Sol Ring is not banned. That being said, there happens to also be French Rules for 1v1 or something which does have Sol Ring banned I think. These are not "official" rules but another community derived rule set in order to promote better 1v1.

I've heard of another set that prohibits first turn Sol Ring but since I only saw it mentioned on a Top and Go Productions video on youtube, I cannot tell you what it was.

In the end, no, Sol Ring isn't banned. That would be stupid since they put one in every Commander Deck product.

Eh, a member of our group recently made a Teeg deck which the table generally groans at. It's probably a "basic" build but I've never been in a very "thriving" EDH community.

He's running the typical Stoneforge Mystic + every sword and good artifact equipment, and the other giant or whatever he is that happens to be similar to Stoneforge.

Once Teeg generally hits the board he already hinders most decks. Suiting him up makes getting him off the board even more difficult. Had it not been for 6 mana and a starting spell targeting Mother of Runes, we wouldn't have gotten him off the board in time last week.

Is it fair to punish all lawful CCW permit holders for the crimes committed by 0.00005716% of lawful CCW permit holders and all other gun-using criminals?

Sir, people are ignorant. That isn't to claim people are "stupid" which has a very different meaning.

On this topic, I've actually grown very tired of trying to educate people. It's like trying to educate a religious person; you just cannot do it. No matter the evidence or correlation, you will never overcome "yeah but I feel this way."

Guns have been demonized throughout the last 100 years in the US and I don't see that changing. There aren't national headlines when a woman uses a firearm against her rapist and there isn't a national headline for the elderly man who defends he and his wife vs three intruders. It just doesn't happen.

I've actually come more and more to appreciate and loath the distinct connected between the US society and Rome. After re-watching the HBO show with my wife, I've recently become reminded just how simple the "mob" still remains.

I used to love Living Hive with Pollenbright Wings in 60 card.... because people let me get away with super stupid plays.

I've never gotten Rapacious to connect in a game yet. Always wanted to with Pennon Blade. I believe both are good and can easily fit in to several different decks. For me, I currently run both in a GR turn **** sideways.
