you have your bloodstained mires listed twice.
run more than one white and more than one blue source, even if you only fetch when you need it. it will get wrecked and you will cry.
Volcanic fallout will be considered, however T3 is a turn too late against elves and goblins(sometimes).
Against a good elves player, you MUST drop Eidolon or a Pyroclasm or a X=1 earthquake or you just lose.
The difference is scalability later game - the earthquake is scalable to 3 or more if something goes sideways.
I guess it just begs the question: is the scalability worth it for uncounterable?
I have been seriously considering Rolling Earthquake as a strictly better Earthquake to take out elves, goblins, deathrite shamans, other swiftspears, flipped or unflipped delvers... the list goes on. Also pumps swiftspear without killing it for 3CMC AND helps cruise fire since its a sorcery.
or you can force a draw by killing both you and your opponent at the same time. Don't laugh - it happens.
The only time it was targeted I sacced in response and blew his face off with fireblast. I had already played a cruise and was just sitting on burn drawn from it.
The key is to not fetch for the volcanic until you have the cruise in hand. Nothing they can do to stop you from making the 1U.
That being said - I think that running two total would probably be better for resiliancy's sake, BUT considering that one card makes up %30 of the total deck cost I think it will scare some away.
Also the reason i'm not running four cruise - I don't really need multiples. It would be worth playtesting 2of volcanic and 4of cruise to see if casting multiples in a game ever becomes relevant.
Float two red, sac mountain for fireblast, play treasure cruise, win the game. I think I threw out 14 points of direct damage from doing this one turn.
Treasure cruise and magma jet are really ridiculous together, nevermind they both kick swiftspear off.
Cruise Missile is no joke. Needs some tuning (Searing blaze is good against 90% of decks out there) but it is gonna be a wrecking ball.
R1 - Win - Punishing Jund
R2 - Win - BUG Delver - Dark confidant is not good against burn.
R3 - Loss - Young Pyromancer. Close games.
R4 - Win - Unknown archetype - Veteran explorer/Thragtusk/Grave titan. Killing veteran explorer with searing blaze then using the found mountains to dome someone is really fun.
R5 - Win - Death and taxes - played around a Warmth(wtf) and doubled up Eidolon to squeak out a win.
F1 - Loss - U/R Delver - Countered shooting pyromaster four times. Kee-rist.
Looking for sideboard suggestions, specifically against elves.
I really liked the initial direction of the "Chaos Reigns" planechase deck, and would like to expand on that with an EDH deck. The Maelstrom Wanderer is a perfect example for what I want to do. Powerful, RANDOM effects. I want to change the board state as much as possible.
Other cards that fit this "random and powerful" theme:
I have been meaning to post this for quite some time, and before discussion I would like to point out that this build has gotten first (well, drawn for first) TWICE at FNM recently, and has a totally different feel than any other red deck I have piloted.
That being said, I think the key to this deck is card synergy. Yes, Furnace scamp is a beast turn one, but what happens when it gets bolted or they just drop enough blockers so you squeak through with your T2 goblin guide? blah. makes me shudder.
I have beaten the crap out of a lot of one drops in this deck, and the 'wacker is a freaking workhorse. T1 wacker to get your T2 berserker in? Neato! Draw another bushwacker? cool! swing for 8 on T3 and have bolt -or- drop your lavamancer to really have your opponent crapping pants. Or say they board wipe? also good! there are -so- many creatures that you can just start over with the ass kicking!
Now, I know that it may seem mana light, but the three peaks are in there vice four because i would like to draw one or the other, not both, but always one or the other.
Okay guys, I'm making less headway than I'd like (Mostly due to hitting up two release events this weekend, plus school). I've identified a few fragments, but only confirmed one so far:
Contested War Zone
Sword of Feast and Famine
White Sun's Zenith
Myr Welder
Myr Turbine
Victory's Herald
Darksteel Plate
Shimmer Myr
There's another stretch above it, but it seems to sometimes involve Thrun, and sometimes not. But those have shown up in order in 5+ boxes so far.
Thank you all for posting your box results. If anyone still has boxes to post, please do. Extra data will certainly help out, and we'll probably require a few more boxes to get this done up properly. Right now, it's a lack of time that is hampering my completion of this.
SO, if we take the mirran rares and the phyrexian rares and assign them numbers Mirran=1 phyrexian =2 and assume that tezzeret, the only neutral card, is neither (?) then the box reads like this;
?12221211122111212212?21211122111221
anyone else see the pattern there? mabye if I line it up, and sub out tezzy for a number that "fits"...
okay then, so using the data that Mr. Smiley posted about the faction boxes, I listed out the cards and then used data sets (of three) that other people posted so far.
As of yet, including mine, all match up perfectly with the order first posted. is it possible that we are looking at a 1:1 map for the faction boxes??
BTW my three at the prerelease were:
Spine of Ish Sah
Distant Memories
Phyrexian Revoker

What about a collation order?
yes, bottom left is number one, above that in the left column is pack three.
Tezzeret
SO, if we take the mirran rares and the phyrexian rares and assign them numbers Mirran=1 phyrexian =2 and assume that tezzeret, the only neutral card, is neither (?) then the box reads like this;

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx?12221211122111212212?21211122111221
212?21211122111221
Interesting.
Edit: what type of collation is this? B?
