I feel it's likely too slow, but both abilities are useful. I see this competing on the flex slots with brutality and lightning axe. As a creature it does nothing against removal unlike the alternatives, but it's a continuous source of selection and discard outlet (alternatives work only once in this department). Removal heavy decks (UWx Control, Mardu Pyro) are already good matchups, so it shouldn't be too bad for us to play 1-2 early creatures. I think it may be a question of efficiency vs. continuity (which leads me to believe the card is just too slow).
What do you think?
I kind of like this. So far I have been pretty unimpressed with the flex spots. I could actually see cutting the lightning axe and maybe a Cathartic Reunion(?) for a couple. I will test this out.
Amen, it's a free country and the pros can whine all they want about pay. The bottom line, though, is they are the ones who decided to make their entire life about this game and depend on it for financial stability. I think its a pretty foolish decision to put your livelihood in a niche skill and an organization that really has no contractual obligation to your welfare. But apart from my personal opinion, let reality come to bare the truth.
I'm relatively new to modern and bought into Mardu Pyromancer to start in the format. I like a part of the deck and I feel like it's good, but I don't like all of it. I don't really enjoy tokens and although reveler is a powerhouse, i don't really like the card.
I'm a very midrange kind of guy and I like a bit of control (in non-blue colors).
Recently discovered that Abzan/Junk and Jund exist, but my playgroup is telling me that the meta really isn't fit for these decks at the moment. I also noticed 5C (Traverse) Shadow, which I think is a really cool deck. What would you guys recommend? Budget isn't really an issue.
Goals with the deck are mainly FNMs and some regional tournaments every now and then. Maybe a GP or two a year if they are not too far away.
I think the only other non-blue controlling strategies that would be viable right now would be Lantern Control or Mono Red Prison (This is what I have been thinking about trying out soon myself). I thought Jund was still ok, but I don't play it so I wouldn't be able to say.
Yes, I am interested too. I will upload next time I play a tourney. I play Grishoalbrand and sometimes Jeskai Control or Grixis Death's Shadow. Can I just add a row, because I don't see Grishoalbrand (BR). Also, just a suggestion, maybe you should create a pivot table to display the results on a separate tab.
Either my opponent got bigger creatures, stack-interaction or a swarm-strategy that doesn't match my removal-suite.
So what's the consensus about the format in general? Is Reflector Mage teh best it gets?
Maybe i'm just tending towards one side singlehandily, but my guts tell me that there must be a piece of interaction that hits 75% or so of the format.
The best kind of interaction is proactive and incidental interaction. That is why Humans is a strong contender for best deck. They can basically curve out like any other aggro deck but pick apart your hand without going out of their way by dedicating cards to interaction. Its pretty aggregious to me that they also get access to the best mana fixing in the format as a bonus.
Edit: Also, this will totally shut down energy decks for people still playing Frontier?
What is frontier?
I'll assume that's a serious question. Frontier is an officially unrecognized format that extends from MTG: Origins to Current sets. It's an eternal format with (as of yet) no bans, so people frequently play things like Aetherworks Marvel and the Cat Combo in the format. I know a few of my LGSs actually tried running events. From results on MTGGoldfish (which actually has a section for Frontier Meta) it's still played in many shops in Japan.
because turning someone into an animal doesn't leave a corpse
How do you know? There are a lot of things you can do that leave corpses...
Because transmogrify is an actual real word, meaning to change or greatly alter something. Leaving a corpse wouldn't indicate something was changed into something else, but rather something replaced something else.
You have rendered my joke humorless.. Didn't you know that in Magic world transmogrify does not have the same meaning that it does in ours?
Yeah, I am scratching my head on this one too. It says "Target opponent loses all counters" though. So it doesn't remove the infect counters you receive? What in the world would this be used for? Are there any other kinds of counters on a player?
